Marlins: 24 men and a baby

And the Marlins were doing so well.

They hired manager Ozzie Guillen. They signed shortstop Jose Reyes. They signed closer Heath Bell. They signed starting pitcher Mark Buehrle. They talked Hanley Ramirez into moving to third base.

The Marlins were all set to move into their Miami stadium with those shiny pieces, but then they went and did the unthinkable. They invited a cockroach into their new home.

You know his name. Carlos Zambrano. He might not be a bad guy 363 days out of the year, but he'll have two or three (2012 is a leap year!) where he just baffles the brain, alienates the fans, abandons his teammates, disrupts his clubhouse.

Zambrano could win a lot of games, but at what cost? What lessons might he teach, say, Ramirez?

The Cubs are paying Zambrano more money this season than the Marlins -- a lot more -- and the Cubs are paying that price just to be rid of him.

There's a reason. Apparently some lessons must be learned in person.

A motivated Zambrano, who is hispanic and going to Miami who has made a lot of moves could be dangerous.

The guy is far from washed up. He's still got good stuff and has a couple more years at least barring injury.

Yes, he's got an attitude, but sometimes a good situation is what a cry baby type athlete needs. Him going to the Marlins and being a prima donna would not only hurt his reputation further, but it would also hurt his reputation within his ethnic group.

The Marlins made a lot of good moves- they spent what they had to spend to make these moves possible, and for this are a much better team on paper. You can't win without making moves and taking chances.

I'm not totally disagreeing that Zambrano is an ass, but saying he could win 12-14 games isn't an understatement at all.

Didn't even read it. Based on titles alone...greatness! Go Cubs!
I skim though the story, I felt that Zambrano skills was getting worse every year.

You got it right. As a CWS fan, for the last couple of years I'd been afraid Ozzie's enthusiasm (reported) for CZ would land that cancer on the South Side. No worries now, right? Maybe it's "kharma," or her sister, "Gia." Joke. The Big Z isn't the level-headed pro Buerle is. Be careful what you ask for ...

Marlins: 24 men and a baby

Though looked at by many people as a good offseason, it has been a rather dismal one for the Florida Marlins.  Starting off by trading for a coach that is going to cause more problems than the players will possibly was a bad start.  Next they sign a very good player in jose reyes but overpay him considering the guy cant play even close to a full season and wont with the marlins.  Doing this also helped them miss out on the biggest name in the free agent market which would have brought an unbelievable fan base to their new city.  Signing Reyes also angered there best player (Hanley Ramirez) by moving him to third.  Then they go out trade for the Terrell Owens of baseball in Zambrano whose out of shape and hasnt shown up to play in 2 years.  The only bright lights for the Marlins are they were able to sign a solid left handed starter in Mark Buehrle, signed a dependable closer in Heath Bell, Pujols didnt end up in their division, and their division as a whole didnt get much better other than the Phillies signing Papelbon.  Having said all this, it will be good for the media this year watching the soap opera starring one of the most volatile, bad speaking managers of all time.

Agree with this post 100%. Zambrano is washed up. I think Guillen just wants another loudmouthed Venezuelan around to deflect from his own idiotic antics.
