Broncos 29, Steelers 23 in OT

DENVER -- He's no longer a novelty, no longer a mystery, no longer a fluke. Tim Tebow is now a playoff-winning quarterback, and not because he managed this game.

He won it.

With Tebow tying two franchise records set by John Elway and throwing the winning touchdown pass in overtime, the Broncos defeated the Steelers 29-23 Sunday to advance to the next round of playoffs, next weekend at New England.

Tebow threw for 316 yards and ran for 50, and produced touchdowns each way. He joined Elway as the only Denver quarterbacks in the postseason to (1) complete two 50-yard passes and (2) throw and run for a touchdown, both in the same game.

Tebow needed just 10 completions to surpass the 300-yard mark, throwing rarely but gouging the Steelers for huge chunks of yardage when he did. That included his 80-yarder to Demaryius Thomas on the first play of overtime for the winning points.

Thomas finished with 204 yards on four catches.

"Mulatto...anyone who wishes a career-ending injury on any athlete is the worst kind of bush-league scumbag. You are a punk."  --David0613

Cut him some slack, dude. He wasn't actually wishing him harm. He was being both facetious and rueful. It's the constant yapping ABOUT Tebow and the whole lunatic fringe of which the yappers are (uneasily) making fun that annoys not a few of us. The problem is mostly with many of the talking heads. A lot of the popular reaction to Tebow has been more than a little over the top, verging on idolatry. (I'm beginning to suspect that some of the most unhinged might secretly hope that he's Elijah Returned.) That reaction seems to threaten some of those guys, somehow. Why might that be the case? Maybe we could use some input here from a psychiatrist or psychologist.

The Tebowmaniacs I sorta get. We Catholics have got our own French peasant girls and then there are all of the Cliff Clavins of the world who see the heads of Jesus and Elvis talking to one another in bread mold.

He is NOT a legit QB in the traditional sense....I do believe he is a quality person and a good leader.  With that said, he has won a bunch of games lately.  Do I give him all the credit?  absolutley not!  Its been a team effort.  I give Tebow credit today for not making any mistakes.  I really give most of the fault on the Pittsburgh Steelers.  On the first play of OT, how do you have 10 guys in the box?  I know you dont think the guy can throw but the guy was wide open.  I dont really have an explanation as to how he is winning.  Over the last 3 weeks he's been nothing short of aweful.  Today he was really good.  Im not a believer in him but at the end of the day he AND the rest of the team won.  I guess that's all that really matters.  Let the Brady vs. Tebow talk start

"I am so sick and tired of this guy. I've never wished something bad on a person but i wouldnt be upset if he suffered a career end injury next week so the following weeks edition of "Keeping up with the Tebowians" would be canceled."  --MulattoKing

It's 'Favre Watch' all over again. Me, I try to keep things in perspective by reminding myself that it's only annoying because the talking heads won't give it a rest. It's really a lot more fun getting p*ssed at those guys. Especially since most of the announcers were never exactly world-class athletes and many of the analysts can hardly walk anymore. You know, just in case I run my mouth in the wrong company.

So now suddenly he's legit? Interesting. I thought he was legit when he 6 games in a row. So did the media. Then he loses 3 in a row and he's suddenly cat doo doo. Totally illegit ! Then he beats Sixburgh and now he's legit again. I'm tired of the media telling us how to interpret Tebow. He's a a young QB with a lot of talent and alot of flaws. We like him because he has a lot of heart and desire to win, but QB's alternately suck 1 week and brilliant the next. Watch them tell us tomorrow that Tebow only won because Big Ben was hurt, so and so didn't play yata yata yata.  Then next week it'll be something else. Just leave the man alone and savor his destruction of the Sixburgh Criminals.

" I know NE is number 1 seed, but how can you make a team that played late Sunday have to travel cross country to play on Saturday and then give Houston an extra day. Makes no sense. And I am not a fan of any team left in the playoffs. " --austexgator

The NFL makes those choices in consultation with the networks. I'm guessing that a slight competitive disadvantage for one team is pretty low on their list of things to consider. (Ratings would probably be the single most important, combined with evening things out between their partners.)

Call me less then pious when it comes to Saint Tebow but we'll see what he does vs. the pats...then if he beats the pats he'll have to get the broncos to the sb and then win it before I'm ready to annoint him anything personally.  Tebow beat a Steelers team that is aged and lack luster not to mention severely wounded...no mendenhall, a crippled Rothlisberger, in Denver so not playing the player that has sickle cell anemia (with good reason mind you) not exactly the scary SB Steelers of last year.  Many have said it so will I the Steelers looked OLD and SLOW.  Tomlin should have played Batch to give the steelers a chance..so the Steelers did more to loose the game then the Broncos did to win it...though I will say this if Tebow starts throwing the ball and passing like a true NFL QB he could be very dangerous but I won't say he's lived up to the hype until he's beaten top of the line competition...so with that my picks the 2011-2012 SB  Ravens vs. 49ers with the Victor being the 9ers.

Mulatto, believe it or not, some of us on these boards actually have an education, think critically and can write legibly. You and your Democratic friends should give it a try.

Jesus Tebow may have just parted the Steel Curtain (though it looked pretty damned rusty by the end of the game, with all three starters out on the D-Line, plus Ryan Clark out in the secondary), but Pontius Brady awaits in New England.

Last time Timmy and his disciples just got flogged. (41-23)

This time we've got the hammers and the railroad spikes all ready to go.

GO PATRIOTS!
