Bob Knight dislikes Kentucky -- it's transparent

Indulge me for a second and imagine this was college football season. And imagine there was a team, late in the season, that was demonstrably better than almost everyone else, bearing down on a spot in the BCS title game. Imagine that team was, say, Alabama. And imagine it had the likely Heisman Trophy winner in, say, Mark Ingram.

And imagine the most famous college football analyst in America, when asked about the top teams and players in the country, never mentioning the words "Alabama" or "Mark Ingram."

Couldn't happen, right? I don't care who he is -- Lou Holtz, Kirk Herbstreit, Gary Danielson, whoever -- no analyst could get away with that.

So why is Bob Knight getting away with it?

Why won't Bob Knight say the words "Kentucky" or "Anthony Davis?"

Knight was on the Mike and Mike show today, and he was talking about some of the top teams in the country. He glowed about Syracuse but never mentioned Kentucky, which is odd considering Kentucky is No. 1 in both polls. Of the 96 available votes in the two polls combined, Kentucky received 94 this week. Kentucky is the leading candidate not just for a No. 1 seed, but for the No. 1 overall seed, and is the overwhelming favorite of Vegas oddsmakers to win the title.

But Knight doesn't want to mention the Wildcats -- coached by John Calipari, whom Knight has verbally attacked in the past.

You could chalk that up as a matter of opinion, as Knight being vintage contrarian Knight, but not when you combine it with another recent segment of his -- when he was talking about the best players in the country. He never mentioned Kentucky's Anthony Davis, which is odd considering the rest of the country considers Davis and Kansas' Thomas Robinson not just the leading candidates for national POY ... but the only candidates for national POY. And as an added bonus, Davis is the presumptive No. 1 overall pick if he enters the 2012 NBA Draft.

But Knight doesn't want to mention Davis -- coached by John Calipari, whom Knight has verbally attacked in the past.

This sort of thing, coming from an analyst, is about as brazen and ridiculous as a coach throwing a chair across the court or grabbing a player by the neck and having it caught on video.

So why is Bob Knight getting away with it?

Bob Knight > UK
The proof is in the pudding, UK was better or more important than Bob Knight they would have gotten rid of him already. They haven't because all of the college baskeball fans in the country (excluding big blue koolaid fans) know that Cal isn't fit to hold Coach Knight's Jock Strap!

BN has lost all ability to be objective on any point.  He is a loser now.  I didn't like him ever, being a UK fan, or IU, but respected him as a great coach and a winner.  He is now a LOSER, and there is nothing than can stop that.....he has sealed his fate, and if ESPN or CBS or any other media outlet uses him, then beware, it is for Indiana only, no one else listens to the crap#.  Even though I respected him before, I am finished with him, and he tarnishes IU and the whole program.  Bob, please retire, and keep quiet (i.e. close you stupid mouth).  I listened to the games he calls, and he a joke, he misses so many calls, and he explains them and his explanation is bs.  BN please for your fans, and IU, stop talking, stop trashing UK, stop being involved with basketball.  Enjoy Arizone, or Las Vegas warm weather.  You are a LOSER!

Bob Knight doesn't hate UK, he hates Cal.  You missed this by a mile.  He believes they cheat and it's obvious, therefore he doesn't rank or talk about them.  Where have you been?  This isn't something that started today on Mike and Mike and he has explained his stance.  Do some investigative reporting.  For goodness sake, look at the people that think what you say must be the truth since you work for a big fance online website.

You mean IU hangs banners for conferance championships? Well....I guess they would if they won any. Seems that UK don't because there's not enough room in a building that holds over 24,000 people.

For goodness sakes IU Fans! Ok, everybody give IU a round of applause for beating us back in early December! You guys are still talking about that like its a metal. " Have you seen my we beat UK pin? It'll be worth money one day!" Congrats, glad that made your season. We at UK don't base our season off of wins in early December, only wins in March.

Gregg,

So happy to see you address this issue.  Just a few days ago I sent an e-mail to ESPN regarding the same subject and asked if ESPN management had "silenced" Knight or if his lack of 'acknowlegement' of UK was done at his own discretion.  My point to ESPN was that Knight's failure to assess other top teams and / or players while on-air does nothing but degrade the ESPN product.  They need to recognize his bias and understand that his lack of broadcast professionalism is hurting the ESPN image in the same way his 'on-court' behavior hurt basketball when he was coaching.  College basketball will be better off when ESPN recognizes that any extension of Knight's contract would not be in their company's best interest.....

ESPN - dump Bob Knight !!!

Bob Knight's opinion does'nt matter, kinda like IU.  They wish they had half of UK's accomplishments.

Because Bob Knight loves college basketball and John Calipari has been bad for college basketball in a number of ways!
