Bob Knight dislikes Kentucky -- it's transparent

Indulge me for a second and imagine this was college football season. And imagine there was a team, late in the season, that was demonstrably better than almost everyone else, bearing down on a spot in the BCS title game. Imagine that team was, say, Alabama. And imagine it had the likely Heisman Trophy winner in, say, Mark Ingram.

And imagine the most famous college football analyst in America, when asked about the top teams and players in the country, never mentioning the words "Alabama" or "Mark Ingram."

Couldn't happen, right? I don't care who he is -- Lou Holtz, Kirk Herbstreit, Gary Danielson, whoever -- no analyst could get away with that.

So why is Bob Knight getting away with it?

Why won't Bob Knight say the words "Kentucky" or "Anthony Davis?"

Knight was on the Mike and Mike show today, and he was talking about some of the top teams in the country. He glowed about Syracuse but never mentioned Kentucky, which is odd considering Kentucky is No. 1 in both polls. Of the 96 available votes in the two polls combined, Kentucky received 94 this week. Kentucky is the leading candidate not just for a No. 1 seed, but for the No. 1 overall seed, and is the overwhelming favorite of Vegas oddsmakers to win the title.

But Knight doesn't want to mention the Wildcats -- coached by John Calipari, whom Knight has verbally attacked in the past.

You could chalk that up as a matter of opinion, as Knight being vintage contrarian Knight, but not when you combine it with another recent segment of his -- when he was talking about the best players in the country. He never mentioned Kentucky's Anthony Davis, which is odd considering the rest of the country considers Davis and Kansas' Thomas Robinson not just the leading candidates for national POY ... but the only candidates for national POY. And as an added bonus, Davis is the presumptive No. 1 overall pick if he enters the 2012 NBA Draft.

But Knight doesn't want to mention Davis -- coached by John Calipari, whom Knight has verbally attacked in the past.

This sort of thing, coming from an analyst, is about as brazen and ridiculous as a coach throwing a chair across the court or grabbing a player by the neck and having it caught on video.

So why is Bob Knight getting away with it?

Bob Knight dislikes Kentucky -- it's transparent

Uksmithfan,
You are what is wrong with the world. You sit behind a computer like Doyel and spew your hate yet doubt either of you would have the balls to say one word to Knight in person.I applaud Knight for omitting Kentucky he is not a phony like most ex coaches and he does not kiss anyones AZZ.He is also a very good commentator he brings a winning coach's prespective to the table.

If I ever met Bobby Knight, I would have no problem telling him what a GIGANTIC douchbag I thought he was, what a horrible commentator he was, and what a horrible person he was. I would finish with "GO BIG BLUE!!".

He doesn't kiss anyone's ass because he expects everyone to kiss HIS. It's called being an egotistical maniac. His EGO is bigger than anyone working for ESPN. Hell, even the Indiana people hate him. Went to the Kentucky/Indiana game in 1995 and his own fans booed him. Sat next to a bunch of them and heard it and saw it.

 You are what is wrong with the world.

That's BEYOND funny. At least I'm not a douchebag, like Bobby Knight. But, seeing how you ADORE him, it can be easily seen that you are a douchebag as well. Hell, I bet you would suck his _______ if he pulled it out of his pants and told you to suck it. Right? Right?

Rangerswin12,

You are as crazy as your screenname.... St. Louis won 2012... I think while Knight was coaching we one the 1978, 1996, and 1998 titles. So? Having anger issues is not being  a good coach, and having such bias does not make a good analyst. If I were ESPN I would fire him on the sole reason he won't follow dress code. Knight is a joke.

Ranger....did you even READ what you posted? How f****** stupid are you? Allow me:

 When Knight was winning two championships when he was coaching how many did Kentucky win. That would be zero.Knight might be an azz but unlike you he is not a hypocrite. You sit behind a computer and tell someone to put a gun in their mouth and pull the trigger.Goober YOU are nothing but an internet idiot..

Knight was the head coach at Indiana in 1978, 1996, and 1998 when Kentucky won their last three National Titles. Your entire posting was completely discredited by this incorrect comment.

Goober? Awe, you hurt my feelings.

Gunman = gun joke.

Knight = HUGE hypocrit.

And people talk about Knight going after Calapari what about when Calapari went after John Chaney so it is ok for a COACH who went after an old man who now coache the Wildcats, you are a hypocrite. The funny thing is Calapari knew he would have got his azz kicked by an old man so he backed out.

Correction, again. John Chaney STORMED into the press conference and had to be restrained from attacking Coach Cal.  Again, you are wrong.

Knight probably would kick Cal's ass. After all, put a gun in Knight's hands, and he's prone to shooting people.

 will agree with this. It has been 14 years since Kentucky last won the National Title, which was #7, which is 7 more than Texas, 2 more than Indiana and North Carolina, 4 more than Duke. Only UCLA has more than Kentucky.

What has Calapari ever won in his coaching career nothing.

Several regular season conference titles, several conference tournament championships, Coach of the Year, and likely the 2012 National Championship.

Do you think that Knight even knows who a hack like Doyel is,I mean I also think their are alot more people that would say that Doyel is a hack then would say that Knight is not a good comentator.

Probably not, and why would I even care? Fact remains, Boby Knight is a HORRIBLE commentator, a HORRIBLE person, and a GIGANTIC DOUCHEBAG!!

Gunman is a Texas fan. Therefore, he knows NOTHING about college basketball. Has Texas EVER had a good team? Talked about an overrated coach. I wouldn't let Barnes coach my son's Upward team.

Bob Knight dislikes Kentucky -- it's transparent

Someone posted earlier that Bobby Knight was a great commentator! Are you kidding me. Just because your knowledgeable of basketball doesn't make you that. He's basically monotone throughtout most of his observations of the game, I've heard better commemtators listening to some local high school game on the radio. His analysis sounds more like he's putting on a coaching clinic and instructing players how to run plays. Commentators are more than just knowledgeable of the game, in a way there entertainers, keeping everyone watching involved in the game. Coach Knight, your time has come and gone, hang your hat on what you accompkished and Indiana, and give up the mic. By the way, i'm a little cautious of someone who never smiles and always seems pissed of at the world.

The #1 team is the one that wins the NCAA tournament championship, which isn't based on subjective opinions.  Who cares if your team is ranked number one before the tournament?  What was UConn ranked last year during the regular season?

Oh don't give me that crap!  Bobby Knight is paid to be a College Basketball Analyst and he's going sit there and completely overlook the #1 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY.  No, I don't think so.  Put your personal feelings aside and do your damn job.  Oh and by the way, to you and Knight and all the other haters of UK Basketball out there yes we are #1 so get over it.
