This way, the NBA can be rid of two knuckleheads in one move.

It would take some time, yes, but after one year of Larry Brown, the city of Charlotte -- not to mention Michael Jordan's superiors with the Bobcats, assuming he has any -- would be ready to run both of them out of town.

For Brown, who gives a half-day's work for a week's pay, it would certainly be the last time any NBA executive would be stupid enough to hire him. For Jordan, it would certainly be the last time any NBA franchise would be stupid enough to give him control of its basketball operations.

Jordan was a great player, probably the greatest ever. But the only executive worse than him has been Isiah Thomas ... who happens to be the last executive to think hiring Brown was a good idea. How did that turn out for the Knicks? And for Isiah?

See, Brown isn't a great hire. He's a franchise-killer. He doesn't get along with anybody but the owner, because he knows whose butt to kiss (see: his relationship with Dean Smith.) Everybody else gets alienated by Brown, a one-man plague of locusts who then moves on to the next city. But Jordan somehow is thought to be considering hiring Brown, probably because Dean the UNC don says it must be so.

After this debacle, if it happens, there won't be a next NBA city. Not for Brown. Not for Jordan.

So please make this hire, MJ. Hire Larry Brown, and do it fast.

I'm beyond sick of both of you.

Great Points Doyel. You know, except for the fact the guy who hired Brown before Thomas, was Dumars and he got a ring. Other than being wrong, you are spot on

Yes, Brown's a bum and Doyle is the greatest writer ever. Brown has the nerve to actually expect his players to listen to him, the coach. He expects them to play hard and unselfishly for the franchise that is paying them millions of dollars. And, of course, Brown has had absolutely no success with this method, except for the following trifling achievements (I'm sure this pales in comparison to all the Pulitzers that Doyle has won):

"With an all-time NBA coaching record of 1010-800 (.558), Brown is fourth on the all-time NBA win list, trailing only Lenny Wilkens, Don Nelson, and Pat Riley. His all-time NBA Playoff mark of 100-89 (.529) places him third all-time in League post-season wins behind Phil Jackson and Riley. Brown is also the only head coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA Championship (Kansas 1988) and an NBA title (Detroit 2004). In 23 seasons as an NBA head coach, Brown has guided his teams to eight 50+ win seasons, seven divisional titles, three Conference Championships (Philadelphia in 2001, Detroit in 2004 and 2005) and one World Championship with the Pistons in 2004. He has led his team to the Playoffs in 17 of his 23 NBA seasons. The nine different pro teams that Brown coached averaged an improvement of 6.8 wins over the season prior to his arrival."

Oh yeah, and one of the most notable players Brown alienated - Allen Iverson - has since matured and now says Brown is the "best coach in the world."

Don't expect me to pay to see Bobcats

Good points Doyle, except Larry Brown will always be able to get a job in the NBA. He obviously has incriminating pictures on half the league's senior executives.

How many times can one guy part from his employers in the acrimonious fashion that he always does? I would be cutting grass for a living if I had Larry Brown's past. Please, MJ and BJ don't do this to us good people in Charlotte!!!!

Well Jordan's draft history is pathetic: Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison. But Charlotte dealt with a lot of injuries this year, especially tough was losing Sean May for the season, so did Sam Vincent really get a fair shake with just one season?

I just can't see why the Bobcats didn't tank more. Not good enough for the playoffs but too good to get better lottery chances.

Brown is top-notch, and given players who listen and care about winning as a team rather than individual accolades, he'll do fine at Charlotte.

Larry Brown had health problems that hurt him when he was with the pistons and knicks. Larry please retire, you were a great coach but your time has ended. It is sad to see him go through that.

When Larry Brown was coach of the Spurs, he repeatedly said Avery Johnson was good enough to be the point guard for a Championship club. After Larry left and Popovich took the reigns, Avery and the Spurs won their first Championship.

Larry Brown is one of the greatest coaches in basketball who wins everywhere he goes. He has had success at every level and every place he has gone. The bobcats could only get better by hiring him. I'm not sure why you would say he only gives a half days work. He holds players accountable and is more concerned with winning and the team than individuals and personal accolades. He was the one who was able to get a selfish undersized two guard that doesn't play defense to the nba finals. He would be a great hire for a young charlotte team.

"Losing Sean May?" Anybody with any sense knew he was too fat to stay healthy. He'll never play in the league again. Sam Vincent took a team with FAR superior talent (Jason Richardson much?) and ended up with fewer wins than last year. That, and the fact that the top line item on his resume was "Friend of Michael", is enough for me.

Larry Brown brings a lot of good and some bad, which is why he has bounced around so much. He's so good that teams will always want to hire him, but his personality demands can create early departures or messy divorces, he's had plenty of both.

The good: Brown knows Xs and Os as well or better than anyone. He's a good teacher. He will elevate the play of anyone who is willing to learn. And he is not afraid to bench any player who is not playing the game "the right way."

The bad: Browns "right way" can get in the way of relationships with players, especially today's generation. He also has a need for constant reassurance. If he's not getting that, he gets nervous and starts looking for the door. Pat Croce was outstanding at handling Brown when he was in Philly. Finally, Brown has a constant desire to meddle with personnel. He'll tear apart a lineup over and over thinking there's just one more piece when he might be undermining the core. He did that in Philly right after he took them to the finals with Allen Iverson and a past-his-prime Dikembe Mutombo and he did it to get Matt Harpring and a washed up Derrick Coleman. It took until this year for Philly to overcome those moves. So any team with Brown as a coach needs a strong GM who can give Larry the right pieces to work with but not let Brown run the show. MJ better be ready for that.
