Alabama has two faces

Posted on: July 12, 2008 10:16 am

And both of them are ugly.

On the football field, player after player after player gets into trouble with the law. Most of them stay with the team. Most of them will play as much as they are needed to play this season.

In the football broadcasting booth, Kenny Stabler gets into trouble with the law. And he's gone. Talking a "leave of absence" for the entire year. Maybe the leave was his idea. Maybe it wasn't. The way Alabama handles things, it's hard to take anything that comes out of that football program at face value.

If I'm an Alabama fan, I'm sick to my stomach. But I'm not an Alabama fan. Maybe you are. So I'm guessing you're just mad at me now.

Alabama has two faces

O and one last thing I thought of Doyle...

Instead of writing some whitty little blog just to rile people up, why not be productive and write an article about how athletic dorms would potentially solve the problem of athletes getting in this kind of trouble and use Alabama as an example instead of kicking a team while their down.

Thats the stuff that the real sites like ESPN and SI do, not something like this.  Its a bit more believable that you believe something when its in an article, and you have the power to have that article published on a high traffic site such as this.  This just reeks of something along the lines of your favorite team is a Bama rival.  Hell, I bet this came about, considering its been more than a week since the Johns incident, that your editor told you that you needed to start pulling some weight around the site, so you decided to insult college students.  Congrats.

Alabama has two faces

WER, you cant be serious here.

When the textbook scandal came out in Auburn I was embarrassed. Then I was happy that our coach immediately took action, suspending Blackmon and Lester for the bowl game and not playing Lester, even at the potential expense of a game or two we lost, for SIX games until the issue was settled.

But when Saban suspends 5 guys, 3 starters included, an hour before the Third Saturday in October and holds them off the field until their textbook problems are taken care of, thats not taking immediate action.  I see.

The appearance is that Saban gives people slaps on the wrist and nothing more.

So what you are saying is that Tubby also gives slaps on the wrist for things, right?  Because both coaches did the exact same thing concerning textbook controversies.

Not surprised at the responses to this, but if you think lifting a suspension for a player at half time (of an embarrasssing loss) is part of the "process" and "righting a ship" then you are showing everyone just how delusional the fan base is down there.

If you can show me a source that says how long Hall's suspension was for, then I will back down.  Until then, you obviously dont know squat about Alabama football.

P.S: when you have trouble finding an article to support your claim that he "lifted" the suspension early, its because Saban never revealed how long the suspension was.

And I want to know what all these other bozos here are looking at saying that Saban doesnt dismiss or suspend players for things they've done.

Jeremy Elder: kicked off team

Jimmy Johns: kicked off team

Outside of those two incidents, who on the team has merited a suspension or being kicked off the team?

You gonna kick a guy off the team for disorderly conduct???  You gonna suspend him when the charges are dropped??  Please.

Alabama has two faces

Roswell,  Last time I checked Auburn was in the state of Alabama, and being that both schools are in the deep south I think Auburn has just as many rednecks as Bama.

Let's talk about the real issue here, the state of the Auburn football program. The last 8 years have the the golden era of auburn football but what have you won.? Granted, you are on a 6 game winning streak against Bama but you have only won 1 SEC championship during the last 8 years actually the last 19 years since you shared the SEC Title with Bama and Tennessee in 1989. I continue to hear all the aubys talk about the streak but I never hear you guys talk about winning SEC and National Championships. I guess your NCG is against Bama and that's good enough for you.

The difference between BAMA and Auburn is the fact that we have lived thru a Championship season. When you win every game during the season, then win the SEC Championship, then Crush a team in the National Championship game it gives you a new perspective. The Auburn game will always be the biggest on our schedule but it isn't everything like it is for Auburn fans. The Auburn game and every other game on our schedule is a step to a more important goal, Winning National Championships.

Please continue to talk about how tubby is doing such a great job and how you beat Bama 6 years in a row. Saban has already taken back the State Of Alabama and soon will be winning SEC and National Titles. Aubys you keep looking forward to the 3 rd weekend in November to Your National Championship!!!

Roll Tide!

Doyel, my homie, how does one enter the action of "talking a 'leave of absence.'" Just curious, of course.

Point fingers at other programs all you want, but that showed everyone just how little integrity. And folks down there have bought into all of it.

Those crimson colored glassed are down right amazing.

Alabama has two faces

"I don't see what Ken Stabler's DUI has to do with the Alabama program.  He's obviously got a problem, but that doesn't make him a bad guy. "

You have to understand that the negative posters on this board are Awbern and Tenn fans. Both are classless and are just getting their shots in while they can. You have to love the both programs historically peaked while Alabama was on probation and both know the beating are coming, oh ya, the beating are coming. Tenn was taken to the woodshed by Alabama last year and Awbern is next, both know it and both know there is nothing they can do about it. Reap the whirlwind !

I'm reminded of an old Southern saying: "A hit dog will holler."

You're only justifying what Doyel wrote. Actually look in the mirror and be a little embarrassed about your program if you're an Alabama fan. It's ok. When the textbook scandal came out in Auburn I was embarrassed. Then I was happy that our coach immediately took action, suspending Blackmon and Lester for the bowl game and not playing Lester, even at the potential expense of a game or two we lost, for SIX games until the issue was settled.

The appearance is that Saban gives people slaps on the wrist and nothing more. Doesn't matter if he didn't recruit these guys. He's still very much responsible for who the University of Alabama gave football scholarships.

The ship might eventually be righted at U of A. Right now they're facing some rocky seas. As a fan you should get below deck and hold on to something. Not stand out on the mast, shouting into the wind bragging about the sunny days.

I don't see what Ken Stabler's DUI has to do with the Alabama program.  He's obviously got a problem, but that doesn't make him a bad guy.  If he honestly wants to get better, just wish him well.  With respect to the football team's off the field problems, how many schools haven't had any?  I don't particularly care for Saban personally, but I do know that he will get the mess cleaned up.  Going back to his days at Michigan State, Saban isn't the type of coach who's going to tolerate this crap, and I don't believe he'll recruit many problems, either.

2 Faces and 92,000 RED NECKS

Bama fans remind me of the mother of little Timmy who can do no wrong.

What Timmy did wasn't near as bad as you make it seem.

All little boys get in trouble. Timmy's just high spirited.

There are kids out there that are worse than Timmy, but y'all all pick on my little boy.

Timmy's a good boy
just a bit misunderstood.

All the other kids are doing it but they're not getting caught.

The difference between CTT
and CNS is that if Timmy is CTT's son Timmy is getting his AR$E beat with no excuses.

Hey Bama fans have you heard the latest trouble out of AU football players this off season?

(Insert cricket sounds here)
