Alabama has two faces

Posted on: July 12, 2008 10:16 am

And both of them are ugly.

On the football field, player after player after player gets into trouble with the law. Most of them stay with the team. Most of them will play as much as they are needed to play this season.

In the football broadcasting booth, Kenny Stabler gets into trouble with the law. And he's gone. Talking a "leave of absence" for the entire year. Maybe the leave was his idea. Maybe it wasn't. The way Alabama handles things, it's hard to take anything that comes out of that football program at face value.

If I'm an Alabama fan, I'm sick to my stomach. But I'm not an Alabama fan. Maybe you are. So I'm guessing you're just mad at me now.

Alabama has two faces

Wow, you and Dodd should get together and have one love child that has horrible journalistic skills.

First, please show me which Alabama player as gotten in trouble on the field with police???  We dont step on peoples exposed faces, we dont slam opponents with our helmets, and we dont give other players the business.

There is a reason they are called off the field problems, Doyle.

I like that NBA beanie you have on.  It lets me know you know squat about what you are writing and should stick to the NBA.

I am not sick to my stomach and have no real reason to be.  I am an Alabama fan, have been and always will be, and there is no amount of NCAA probation, player arrests, or alumni problems that will ever change that.

And Im not mad at your for posting this garbage, Im mad at myself for actually believing it deserved the time of day.

Alabama has two faces

I'm not mad nor sick to my stomach. You're right to a certain degree. I've been embarrassed lately with all the things Alabama's program has been involved with lately but I believe the ship is guided in the right direction with the right man for the job. That's Nick Saban. Sometimes I can't believe it but it's like I've been won over by Nick Saban and I'm accepting patience. That's something the fans need to stick with all the negative criticism. Everyone just needs patience and Alabama will eventually get the ones out that lack discipline. How many Nick Saban recruits got into trouble? (The ones he recruited)

Alabama has two faces

Y'know, as articles of this sort go, this one really wasn't bad. If he's mistaken about the players getting to play this season, put it in his face for all to see that the Bama program is a stand-up one, unlike FSU and numbers of others that continue to play their felons. (Ok, FSU had theirs reduced on a technicality. Same thing).

As for Ken Stabler, last I saw was that alcohol abuse was a disease to be treated, not ostracized. Unfortunately, many companies response to this situation would be a mandatory leave from the public eye. Bama's not alone here if they initiated this action. I wish him luck.

Alabama has two faces

Same old, same old,  if it wasnt for the kick ass fantasy football engine on this site,  and the fact CBS shows SEC games....I would never have to read these job application blogs for would be interesting to see just one nuetral article on Bama...but then again...Greatness breeds hatred from those that are inferior.

Alabama has two faces

Wait just a minute. There are only three things that make me sick to my stomach right now: the state of our governing system, oil and gas prices, and articles like these. Yes we have had several arrests lately which saddens me. But each player was disciplined and one who would have been a major contributor was kicked off the team quite swiftly. Each and every program has incidents such as these to occur so if you feel the need to bash each school who has a player get into legal trouble, you are going to be a very busy man the rest of your career.

Alabama has two faces

Typical, typical, typical.  Any chance the media has to slam Bama, well, we know they will go to the cabinet and gather all weapons available.

Yes, several Bama players have been arrested since the end of last season.. Hmm, guess that hasn't happened anywhere else, since we know that only Alabama gets dirty players to run a dirty program.. please..

Yet another chance for you to slam Bama.. The fact that Jimmy Johns was immediately kicked off the team and out of school means nothing.. And we are not talking about an average player.. He was Mr. Mississippi Football -- very talented.  I'm sad to see that he's wasted all of his potential, but in the end, he's made bad decisions which he will have to answer to.

Kenny Stabler.. I love listening to the guy on broadcast.. Always a fan of the renegade QB during his days as a Raider.  It is regrettable about his situation, but I think the right decision was made about his current disposition.  The fact that you compare it to current players is ludicrous.

Have you forgotten that Saban suspended a number of players from the team before the Tennessee game for a textbook scandel?  Of course not, but then again, I know your agenda: number 1: you have a deep passionate hate for Bama; and number 2: you hope your comments are so contraversial, that you will be recruited to join the media whore that is ESPN.. At this point, I'm not sure what is the order of priority.  But nonetheless, it's very evident -- you have a deep disdain for Alabama and a strong desire to be in the spotlight to become the next Jim Rome..  Maybe we can title the show "Doyel is Douchebag".

Alabama has two faces

Im not surprised a critic like yourself fails to mention the fact that as soon as the Alabama player recently arrested on serious drug charges  and admitted them was suspended from the team permantly within two hours of the news. The other players were minor charges and are being disaplined in house which are pretty intense requuirements to  recieve their second chance. Another area  you obiviously know nothing about,(in house puniahments) and are you so perfect you never received a second chance to make good on someting you did.
