A-Rod is scum

Posted on: July 15, 2008 2:54 pm

If A-Rod spied on his wife, that is.

But if he spied, he's scum. And he's hypocritical scum, which is the worst kind. A-Rod is the one linked in the past to various infidelities. A-Rod is the one linked now to Madonna. And he's been spying on his wife?

If you recall, I wrote about A-Rod and Madonna a few weeks back, and basically said, "I've been following this stuff, too, but really it's none of our business."

I take it back. Now that the divorce has gone public, it becomes public record, which makes it our business. So I'm going to pop some popcorn, get a soda and sit back and follow this very public story to its bitter end.

A-Rod is scum

The man's loaded, cheated on his wife and now that he's divorcing his wife he's checking to see if someone can't dig up some dirt on her in case she tries to take him to the cleaners in the courts, he's just doing what a man in his situation is supposed to do, protecting all that ish he's earned from a golddigga.

I know you don't really care about this

Doyel, I know you don't really care about this. Is he a scumbag - yeah probably. But please, somebody do a big story on the cheating thing in the NBA. I know you've already written once - but this story is only getting deeper and deeper. It warrants a whole lot more attention than the fact the AL is still better, ARod is another weirdly protective sexually hypocritical athlete etc, etc. and I know you know that.

and all this has what to do with Baseball... Doyle save these stories for the tabloids and TMZ. There is a hell of an All Star game going on.. lets get back to the baseball side of things.

I have to respectfully disagree on this one. I'm usually right there with you, Doyel, on almost anything you write. People shouldn't be paying attention to this, not because it shouldn't be public, but because no one should really give two what is going on in a player's personal life. If the player makes his personal life public, fine, have at it. The thing is, I'm pretty sure A-Rod didn't want this stuff all over the place. I'll grant the guy is a jerk, but I still think having chuckles at his personal life is crossing the line. It's not like there's a lack on baseball related material to work with here.

It just all goes hand-in-hand with the obsession over stardom and the need to know if a star wipes from front to back, or back to front. There's really no need for it, and until we stop paying attention to it (even to have a good laugh over it), there will simply be no change. I'll also grant that I could change the channel, or move on to the next article. The thing is, that's a really tired excuse that goes around in circles. That's like saying you can ignore brain cancer into remission.

Anyway, I think I've made my point, and am likely on the verge or rambling, so I'm cutting myself off here. To sum it up, no one should really have the right to know about all this, despite the fact that I love to see this guy squirm after all the stuff he has done.

Wow, Doyel.  Just wow.  Who are you going to insult tomorrow to try and get your ya-yas?  Peyton Manning for having surgery?  Terry Francona for taking out A-Rod?  Whichever leage loses?  Please, you would do CBS a favor by not writing any of this "dribble" as you call it, and i really cant argue that point, cause thats exactly what it is, dribble.

A-Rod is scum

For the record, I'm a Mets fan.  And I really don't care for Alex Rodriguez or his wife.

Doyle, I can understand how there is enjoyment in others' misfortunes.  As a culture we are drawn to car wrecks, motorcycle accidents, or pretty much any other activity that causes physical pain to another.

But to be drawn to an emotional car wreck?  You should be better than that.

This divorce was public the day she filed.  Divorces are always public record.

As for the participants, I really don't feel bad for either one.  They are both grown people making childish decisions, whining and crying about what the other one did.  Child(ren)?  Different story.

But I will say one thing, the pressure that must be on Alex's shoulders each morning as he opens the newspaper is tremendous.  I wouldn't wish that on anybody.  I mean realistically, how would you react to the constant drubbing of your name in the major headlines? (I say major headlines because I'm sure you deal with some negative exposure from time to time on a smaller scale).

I just hope that bag of popcorn is small.  Wasting time on this one is useless.  My prediction?

  1. She cries to the court of public opinion.
  2. Overblown requests for alimony, child support, etc...
  3. Initial court date.
  4. Settlement.

It's really not that hard.  Divorces happen every day.

A-Rod is scum

What about A-Rod makes you say "Now there is a secure dude."?  Was it his need to make the most money in baseball written into his Rangers contract?  Was it his need to be associated with a winning team so desperately that he'd take a pay-cut (until the union intervened).  Was it his obvious depression over his falling-out with Jeter that caused a 90 game hitting slump?  I don't know, sounds to me like the money isn't doing enough for him.
