This is what's wrong with the NBA

OK, it's one of many things wrong with the NBA. But when an NBA team, Denver in this case, basically gives away its best big man, Marcus Camby in this case, simply for salary-cap reasons ... there's a problem.

But there's also something wrong with Denver. The Nuggets have to give away the best defensive big man in the league? Fine. Give him away. But don't give him away to a team in the same conference.

Who's running the Nuggets, anyway? Isiah Thomas?

I totally respect your opinion there Doyel, and certainly see where you are coming from.

But saying the NBA has a credibility problem would like saying that Josh Hamilton hit the ball hard in the first round of the Home Run Derby.

And there has been more evidence - it is looking a whole lot more likely that this was not a rogue isolated incident. Write about crazies like me who want to hear more about it - anything, because it has absolutely faded from the popular sports media and when that happens - more of the same nothingness will follow.

Tackle rumors about the NBA - did Jordan retire because of gambling. Something, anything to keep the story alive and spark enough interest to parlay into a serious investigation.

We didn't stop with McGuire and Sosa - we used them as a springboard to address an obvious problem (steroids.) And it was in fact, the work of the San Francisco CHronicle guys with Jose Canseco who really exploded the case. Was Jose Canseco a good guy - no. In fact, he may even qualify as scum (I don't know the guy, so I don't know.) Sometimes scummy people are in the middle of big stories. Something is wrong in the NBA officiating and it has been for a while.

This is what's wrong with the NBA

There are lots of things wrong with the NBA. Crooked ref(s), lovechildren everywhere, selfish players, drugs...so perhaps the problem that led to Camby being traded for a rack of balls and a soda machine isn't so bad after all. But it's still RIDICULOUS. Really. The rules surrounding the NBA salary cap and contract law are so incomprehensively convoluted that they'd make Stephen Hawking take a serotonin blocker and a week off from work. I've heard that throwing away Camby will save the Nuggets 40 million dollars in salary and luxury tax. I guess that makes it a good business move, but aren't teams supposed to go out and try to win games? It's too bad that their cap position didn't let the Nuggets go out and try to make an actual, y'know, TRADE for Camby. Scott Skiles would drool all over himself at the prospect of having Camby on his team. The Nuggets could've gotten Gadzuric and a second rounder from the Bucks. That's nothing special, but it's better than NOTHING.

Salary cap law in the NBA is broken and has to be fixed, but hooboy, it's going to be a headache to pull it off!

Yeah this author hit the nail on the head.....This league is jacked up.

Especially when guys like Steve Francis are worth more to NOT PLAY then they are TO PLAY. (Portland traded FOR him 2 seasons ago at the draft then paid him like $20million JUST TO GO AWAY)

Every league has its set of problems and every league has something that "sucks" about it. It's not just the NBA. We can all find something that we don't like about the NFL, NHL, and the MLB especially. There is always something that "sucks" no matter how you break it down. And the reasons are different for each individual fan.

The NBA is just progressively getting worse. It's like a bad cancer that just spreads from team to team. The players are all selfish ballhog chucks with an occasional gifted player who all want to be jordan. They should put all of the salaries in the toilet and they all get paid evenly, if you don't perform, you get benched. Show some heart, maybe the league will get better, because this league sucks.

Wow!

This was well written and well said. I enjoyed very much reading it, and I agree with the whole view 100%. You never want to trade within the same conference if you don't have to. Sometimes though...That might be what needs to happen.

Nice Thread! :P
