Kill the Tour de France. Put it out of its misery. Put cycling out of its misery and kill the whole sport.

Seriously.

Three riders have already been caught cheating through chemistry, including a two-time stage winner of this year's race. And the thing isn't even close to being finished. How many more cheaters are going to get caught?

Better question: How many more cheaters won't be?

After the Floyd Landis debacle and with the general suspicion that cycling is the world's dirtiest sport -- and that's saying something -- these guys still can't stop from cheating. They literally don't think they can compete with clean bodies.

It'll make you wonder about whoever wins -- how did he beat everyone in the field if he wasn't cheating?

Kill the sport. It has lived well beyond its usefulness.

Doyel's Dribbles?  Maybe it should be called Doyel's Drivel.  Let's kill the NBA because a ref was convicted of gambling on the the sport!

Now, considering the intelligence you've shown in your other posts (not to mention the fact that you seem to like MMA), I'm going to assume that you actually know what you're talking about with cycling.

See what I did there... I started with a dig at you and then finished up with a conclusion that doesn't follow from the premises - you're actually not smart at all! I've read a few of your posts and I think I've got your style down. Having read two of your posts though, I may actually be more informed - so it's not a perfect copy.

Here's an assignment for you. Spend 60 minutes researching the level of testing that athletes are put through in the NFL, NBA, MMA (seriously, is that even a sport? it's like "wrestling" for the meth generation), MLB and then the riders of the tour. When you've actually gathered some facts and done even remedial thinking about the types of violations that have been caught in these sports (baseball for example), I'm convinced you may finally shut the fuck up. Of course, that's giving you the benefit of a >80 IQ.

When you're done with all this, I'd love for you to go find a 220 pound AND a 150 pound cyclist. The heavy one is going to cream you on the bike. The little guy is actually going to whoop your ass.

"Oh, and also, cycling isn't a sport.  Its a way of getting from point A to point B without walking.  Nothing more, nothing less."

What's your definition of a sport? Give your brother Doyel a call and maybe he'll tell you what to say.

If you want to stick your head in a hole and still think that that yellow wristband wearing, philandering, douche bag was clean than thats just fine.  Ignorance is bliss, or so I've been told.

S_face, thanks for clarifying your position on the matter... I also applaud your choice of attempting to bait me into a juvenile tete a tete, rather than an educated discussion about facts.  When did you decide what is truth?  Cycling has made great strides in cleaning itself up, by first admitting it was dirty.  That would be a good example to MLB, NFL and NBA leadership.

I don't need to defend Lance Armstrong, his record speaks for itself.  He was the MOST tested athlete in the world, and was clean.  By the way, those yellow bands represent one of the most brilliant charity driven marketing plans of our era, raising MILLIONS in the fight against cancer.  Whether you think he is a douchebag or not is up to you.

What is your definition of sport, anyway?

EP-No,

Ignorant rants?  Its funny how the truth is sometimes misconstrued as ignorance.  Cycling is a filthy, dirty sport when it comes to PEDs.  I've heard commentators even refer to it as professional wrestling on wheels.  If you want to stick your head in a hole and still think that that yellow wristband wearing, philandering, douche bag was clean than thats just fine.  Ignorance is bliss, or so I've been told.

Oh, and if you want to check out my other thoughts on sports, it isn't hard.  I have a long track record of pounding baseball and their goofy commissioner for ALL of their misguidedness during the steroid era.  My profile is right there for ya.

Oh, and also, cycling isn't a sport.  Its a way of getting from point A to point B without walking.  Nothing more, nothing less.  These goofs just do it in a silly looking yellow shirt..............

Now a days whenever an athlete dominates in any sport we have to question if there is any foul play involved.  Just take a look at Marion Jones for instance.  It was, give or take, four years after she obliterated the competition in the Olympics and we found out just why she did!  When will everyone get it through their head that the more drugs we test for the more advanced the drugs will get to beat the tests.  Pharmacists want to be billonaires too!

Just because cycling maintains a popularity level in the U.S. somewhere around prairie dog watching doesn't mean it isn't a great sport.  It's hard to watch a 6-hour mountain stage just like it's hard to watch 120 minutes of scoreless soccer.  Still, it is one of the most difficult sports on earth, and these athletes deserve a certain level of respect.  I truly believe that the majority of cyclists over the past decade have been clean, including Armstrong.  These guys are tested more than anyone in any sport, and well over 90% are passing their tests.  If NFL players were tested as stringently I would imagine that a majority would fail.

So what' the solution?  The UCI needs to establish an independent drug testing organization with a proven and reliable chain of custody on specimens.  The integrity and reproducibility of drug testing needs to be equally reliable.  Fans and athletes must have faith in this system.  As a fan I'm still incredulous that the Mennonite cyclist from Murrieta, California took testosterone for one stage during the Tour, which he knew wouldn't help, especially knowing that the 1st place rider would automatically be tested.  Yeah, the Landis thing felt like a setup, and still does.  Even though his appeals were lost, every independent agency and judge who heard the case conceded that the UCI's drug testing, sampling equipment, and chain of custody on specimens had multiple deficiencies.  Until they can prove that these holes have been filled, athletes will try to cheat, and those who don't could get screwed.  Why do you think Lance Armstrong had an independent agent keeping track of every specimen he provided?  He saw the potential for abuse, and knew the French would love to see him hang.  I think Landis was a bit too naive.

JC & Nova, I agree.  Unfortunately, the media in the US is only covering the negative side of the story.  How about the fact that a long-time domestique from Chicago, Vande Velde, is in third place?  Or an American-based team has multiple stage wins?  Where is that coverage? .  Maybe they should congratulate WADA on the advancements in testing that they've made and were able to keep it quiet.

Similar to Formula One and soccer, US fans have to seek out specialty publications to read about sports that are popular on a world stage, not just one country.  While many people in the US don't care about cycling, killing cycling isn't a solution.  The "misery" that Doyle is speaking of is only created by writers like him.

Doyel:

Stick to writing what you know about. You know nothing about cycling. Instead of suggesting to kill the sport, you should applaud cycling because it is one of the few sports that is serious about ridding itself of cheaters. The drug testing is more stringent than any of the major sports in the U.S. Get caught in the NFL and you get a four-game suspension. Big deal. That happened to Shawn Merriman and Rodney Harrison and both came back and helped their teams in the playoffs. Doyel's opinion is just the latest example of an American sports writer (and I use that job title very loosely) who doesn't know much about the sport or its history outside of Lance Armstrong, Floyd Landis and the recent doping problems. To suggest killing it is stupid. To suggest no one cares about it is stupid. Millions of fans line the road each summer to watch this race. But just because it's not in the U.S., Doyel makes fun of it. Does he have the same opinion of soccer, the world's most popular sport? I'm not a big soccer fan, but I have no problem it's No. 1 in the world. That's just a fact. It's clear your little dribble is meant to inflame people. I shouldn't even respond, because your opinion means nothing to me anyway. You must have written this a couple of minutes after you were choked out by some MMA fighter.

ScoreFace, Ignorant rants like  that  one  don't add anything constructive to the  discussion.  Do you own a bicycle?
When you say Lance was "pumping more chemicals in his body than a prized heifer", are you referring to CHEMOTHERAPY?
It amazes me that people who want to bring down cycling and Lance in particular have blinders on when it comes to Barry Bonds and major sports.
Cycling will not go away, and neither will the Tour.  Stick to commenting on things you have at least a little knowledge of.
