FREE RIDERS, get off your butt

This is just amazing to me, the housing market is just insane. Interest rates are low low low and this is an opportunity for people to buy a house and make it a home. Renting an appt. is a choice some make, but a house is place where you are the boss, you can paint, remodel, add-on, have pets, be your own man or woman. This of course does not include those 55+ communities or condos, I hate the concept of having rules for someting I own.

With that said, I am selling my old house. People are dillusional, they all want everything perfect and everything given to them. My friend had to leave behind a brand new LG washer and dryer to sway a buyer......... My old house has a range in it that is 15 years old, but works perfect and is absolutely spotlessly clean. I was told to get a more modern range because people like to see modern appliances. Has anyone actually ever tired to clean one of these new porclean range tops, they are a nightmare, idiots see them and think they you just wipe 'em down and bammo instant clean. Why would you throw out an appliance that works perfect?????? Well because my bank is telling me to sell my house so I can afford another one because the buyers today are demanding near perfection. WTF.

Really everyone wants everything for FREE, they don't want to work hard or invest in a property that will take some imagination and some elbow grease. Yeah nobody wants a house that is dirty, but if you don't like the color of the walls, paint them.  Unless you are making 6 figures no problem and can afford a brand new house, the reality is you are getting a used one. Moulding gets scratched, carpet wears out, appliance age, this is a fact of life. Saying it is a buyers market is an understatement, it is a market where the buyer gets what exactly what they want with minimal effort or money, that annoys me.

Don't even get me started on Section 8 for people too lazy to work, who collect welfare. I busted my butt most of my life and I see people driving Cadillac Escalades paying for their milk with a WIC coupon. There is something wrong there, to say "not fair" does not even cover the travesty of our system. Whoever the next President is, I hope they address the issue of handouts and free-loaders.

FREE RIDERS, get off your butt

Something is wrong when you pinch your pennies using coupons, buying off-brands, and only items on sale and the person in line in front of you has no coupons, is buying name brands, and never mind if it is on sale or not.

Guess which customer is paying with food stamps?  Yes my friends, our government has played robin hood for so long and so effectively it is the food stamp user that isn't concerned about prices.  The food stamp user figures you have to work if you get a job, and then the freebies start to go away.  Why work when you can sit back and do nothing and get one free ride after the next?

We've all seen the person on the side of the road with the sign:  "Will work for Food".  My answer back, although I've never had the courage to actually yell it to a sign holder out load, is "How about getting a real job and working for money?"

We need programs to encourage people to work and give them up to a certain amount of free training.  Reducing the number of useless amongst us will benefit everyone and needs to be a top priority for us all.

momluvsfootball......completely understand your post comments....without any doubt no one, absolutely no one with any semblence of having a functioning brain would not agree that those who try to be responsible people should be helped if the need is there.....nybites it seems to me (and I know you also knew, momluvsfootball) was addressing those who are taking advantage of the system when the reality is they are perfectly capable of caring for themselves on some level.  It just makes no sense that if one cannot adequately care for one child then the solution is to have more children! and expect others to foot the bills.  Just as a chain is only as strong as the weakest link - our society is only as strong as the number of people who pay for the system to function.

Yes, the housing market is a large part of the current economical problems....there again the greed of the mortgage companies, etc. lent money to those they knew would have a problem with the monthly nut at some point.  We need to bring back the basic factors which made this country the best that has ever existed - warts and all it is the best in the history of mankind.

Want to express my respect for your accomplishments, momluvsfootball.....good for you!

Ditto re hoping nybites has good luck in selling his house......buyers know it is a buyers market and their demands are raised in proportion to how much of a buyers market the actuality is. Also sometimes a realtor will advise the seller to make unnecessary changes because the realtor wants to make a quick sale in order to spend his/her time on another sale.....the sell for less but sell in quantity theory. So the seller has spent more but will probably not get a return on that money whereas the realtor will have an easier time selling the house because of the changes.

FREE RIDERS, get off your butt

I can understand your frustration with the housing market.  I do sympathize.  My house is covered under a VA loan and if we were to sell it, there would be quite a few things we'd have to do to it before we could sell it.

On a note about the WIC program.  I was on WIC when my daughter was little.  I had a job making 7 to 8.00 an hour and was receiving a monthly child support check of 133.00.  I was gone 12 hours a day, traveling back and forth to work.  Not easy paying rent, electricity, gas, water, along with child care costs to go to work, plus cover the cost of car insurance and gas to get to work.  Being on WIC allowed me to buy the gas to get to work.    Majority of people on WIC actually do work but struggle to keep a roof over their heads.

I went back to college on a State Education grant because, even with the skills I had coming out of the USAF, I wasn't going to be able to make a liveable wage without the degree.

Good luck on selling your house.
