Cubs vs. Rockies

Rich Hill vs. Franklin Morales

SB Nation is doing maintenence, so I don't have the BCB preview, so...

By, well me...

Tonight the Cubs can make history. With a win tonight, the Cubs will not only continue their winning streak and at least maintain their lead in the central, but a win will mark the 10,000 in the franchise history. (A feat only accomplished by the Giants)

And on to tonight's game. The Cubs have been pounding the ball, average more than 8 runs a game on the last homestad, against some good starting pitchers. I wouldn't go that far when commenting on Franklin Morales. The 22-year-old Rockies's southpaw has struggled in his last two starts, giving up 11 runs in 9 IP against the Diamondbacks and Astros. His K-BB rate is 5-11 and GB-FB is 20-22. Those aren't good numbers when you're throwing in Coors. And although sofar this season, he has one good start against the Diamondbacks at home, last season in limited starts he had a 6+ ERA there. He has never faced the Cubs, or any of their pitchers.

The other lefty in this matchup is Cubs' starter Rich Hill. Hill comes in with a 1-0 record and 3.86 ERA, although he has struggled with his command early this season walking 11 in 14 IP. But Hill is coming off his best start of the season, a win where he went 5 innings, giving up only 1. Hill has never faired well against in Coors. In his two starts there, only career apperances against the Rockies, he has gone 0-2 with a 11.32 ERA, and a ton of other horrible stats that I won't get into.

Lineups

Cubs:

  1. Reed Johnson
  2. Ryan Theriot
  3. Derrek Lee
  4. Aramis Ramirez
  5. Kosuke Fukudome
  6. Mark DeRosa (Lf)
  7. Geovany Soto
  8. Ronny Cedeno (2b)
  9. Rich Hill

Rockies

  1. Ryan Spillborghs
  2. Clint Barmes
  3. Todd Helton
  4. Matt Holliday
  5. Garret Atkins
  6. Brad Hawpe
  7. Troy Tulowiski
  8. Yorive Torrialba
  9. Franklin Morales

Should be a good night for offense

Well though especially the one's against the Mets because they where both still close games late until we put them away with dramatic hits by guys you wouldn't have thought of!!!!! I know these are exciting but I felt like those couple blowouts where still pretty exciting if not as exciting is all. I can handle these games as long as we win. The nice thing is tomorrow I can just relax now and hope for a sweep but if not at least they split and hey there gonna lose someday just hope not for a little while longer!!!!

I know desdy, those blowouts are good games, because they are easy on the heart too

But the extra inning nailbiters are much more exciting.  Clutch hits and coming from behind to win is much much more entertaining in my opinion than a 9 to 3 win over the Reds or Pirates.

Umm the last 4 games where pretty good two especially the two against the Mets which where close games until the big explosions in the 8th inning!!!!! One of the top wins for sure though I agree but you can't deny the 4 blowouts especially the last two which where a lot of fun!!!

Ryan Theriot came up with a big hit with 2 outs to score the winning run.  When Aramis Ramirez hit his 2 run homer in the 9th inning I was screaming in my car.  The finish of this game was just unbelieveable.  Arguably the best game of the year so far.  I think the only other game that would contend with it would be the 15 inning marathon in Pittsburgh.
