Guilty Pleasures...time to come clean boys

Now I have to be honest.  I love a good action flick.  And I even like a good horror movie every now and again (different kind of movie, Spitzer!).  But is there anything better than a good ol' fashioned chick flick, filled with Kleenex moments, a plot so thin it makes Kate Moss look bloated, and every stereotype of homely girl meets Prince Charming and they live happiliy ever after as a result of one single longing stare, followed by a searingly  hot kiss that would melt any ice princesses heart, cue the music, and this baby is almost in the can... and cut!!

For me, I love tear jerkers, sad and happy endings, passionate kisses before the credits, cute guys dumping the beauty and the bee itch for the proper girl with the morals (even if the starlet playing the role is on her 3 stint in rehab - this is fantasy here).  I would name the following as some of my favorites:

  1. Titanic
  2. Terms of Endearment
  3. PS I Love You
  4. Pearl Harbor
  5. Hope Floats
  6. Pretty Woman
  7. Unfaithfully Yours
  8. and many more....

Now I want to know from you real men on this board.  Are you closet chick flick lovers or do you just go along so we ladies will think you have a soft underbelly?  I am betting there are some guys who secretly love chick flicks.....sort of a chick flick Rick so to speak.

So what are your favorites boys....don't be bashful....I know you have a soft underbelly.....

tell AV all about it.....

No SkinsChamp,

You get to keep your man card.  Only now it has a hole punched in it that is the shape of a ________________(you fill in the blank).

Do I have to turn in my manhood card if I admit that I secretly enjoy watching the FX show 'Dirt'?  You know, the one starring Courteney Cox as the head of a trashy tabloid magazine.

Basicems,

Sex and the City is a funny and original comedy about four characters.  It isn't fake becasue it has a fresh perspective on things and examines women's reactions and romantic struggles.  I never said it was realistic. I said it wasn't fake, meaning the story is fresh and entertaining and the characters can be identified with, and you gain insight when you watch it.

BTW I watched three seasons, you watched two episodes, I think I know better what I am talking about.  Plus I am a woman and every woman would identify with one of those characters. I strongly identify with Carrie and her struggles for real love and her commitment phobia.  There were numerous scenes with her that looked like flashbacks to my own single life.  One in particular.

Women do not wish to live like that..  Those girls suffer.  Quite the contrary. I am so glad I am not single.  Dating is excrutiating.

I applaud your husband for being in touch with his emotions... maybe you should take a lesson.

What's your problem with me? You don't know me but you somehow judge by one post? Maybe you need some sort of lesson on not being judgmental.

BTW Geze,

Not sure if you realize, but "Chasing Amy" isn't a romantic comedy... it's a tragedy. An homage to "the girl that got away" by it's writer, director, and actor- Kevin Smith.

He's stated on many occasions that he's a big, fat cry-baby of a man... very much in touch with his emotions, and known to ball like a kid who just got his halloween candy stolen, at various parts of his life, including movies.

You remind me of my wife (this is definitely NOT an insult), I have to tell her all the time to take off the "tough-guy" mask.

I take no responsibility for a mistake on any specific details about the show in the above post as I have only seen 2 complete episodes and a dash of interminglings here and there.

Geze,

you say you hate fake? SATC is a PERFECT example of fake. If a group of women REALLY lived like that...

-one would look like a giant canchor sore from her andvanced syphillis
-one would be BROKE and not be able to live in New York from wasting allof her money on her shoes... a writer in New York DOES NOT make enough money for all those shoes
- one would not be able to continue her friendship at the speed the others go, now having a kid (and if she did, her husband should lay down some rules)
- and the other wouldn't stay friends with the others because she's the only one with a life that is realistic enough to ACTUALLY live like that, and those women are petty b****es and would have back-stabbed the others to the point of exhile

That show is popular for one reason and one reason only...beacause women WISH they could live like that. Can you say "vicarious"?

I applaud your husband for being in touch with his emotions... maybe you should take a lesson.

Does...'How to lose a guy in 10 days' count for anything?

AV,  can females add their two cents?

I absolutely can't stand tear jerkers.  I hated Titanic, and pretty much all the movies on your list.  My husband, on the other hand, is a sucker for romantic movies.  He would be sniffling and I would be like, this is so phony, I can't stand it, and he would be mad at me.

I love a good love story, mind you, but it has to be real, not cookie-cutter, phony, made-to-be-tearjerker.  I
enjoy anything that is fun and original.  I love Sex and The City and I will go see the movie - it is funny and the characters are real, despite of all the glitz.  Some mentioned movies I absolutely loved, like Love Actually.  My favorite romantic comedy is Chasing Amy, and I enjoyed the 40-year old virgin. I really liked the English patient, I should say the main story, it would have been much better without the wrapper story.  I loved Dangerous Liasions.

Basically, what I don't like is fake, and the vast majority of tearjerkers are.
