Chiefs in Patriots Country

I grew up when Foxboro Stadium was new, and was named after a local beer company. The Patriots just sucked. The teams were bad, but it was the owner who kept the team in ruins. Billy Sullivan was his name, and he had no business owning a football team. He had no money, and ran the team like he had no money. Foxboro Stadium cost 7 million dollars brand new, can you imagine that, I think Bob Krafts car cost 7 million dollars. Anyway...back in those days all the local kids had different favorite teams, and it was never the Patriots. I grew up right outside of Boston, a few miles from Foxboro actually. Point being, I had to pick a team, and since the Chiefs just won the Superbowl, I picked them. I have been a Chiefs fan ever since. Sometimes I think I jinxed the Chiefs because they really have not won much since that 1970 Superbowl. So when I moved to Maine a few years ago, and walk around in my Chiefs gear, I get funny looks from the locals in their Patriots gear. How can a guy who lives in New England not be a Patriots fan. Especially since the Chiefs suck, and the Patriots are the class of the NFL for the last 6 years. I just am not one to jump on a bandwagon.
I have to wonder what will happen with the Chiefs now that Lamar Hunt has passed away. He was a great owner, and a great President of the AFL/AFC. Maybe his son will be tougher, and shake things up more than his dad did. Lamar seemed to let time fly by with his team not getting much done, and left always looking to next year, until there was no more next years for Lamar. The condition of the Chiefs is not a discussion about the the offensive line, or the quarterback, or the draft. The team has become the old Patriots, the Chiefs are not bad because of money like the Patriots were, but they have got used to being sub par. The Chiefs made a push in 1993, like the Patriots did 1985, but it faded fast. Something major needs to happen to the Chiefs to change the culture of the team, like the Patriots were bought by Bob Kraft, and he shook the team up, changed the culture. God bless Lamar Hunt, I loved him, but he allowed the culture in Kansas City to fester. That culture may have been, trying your best is good enough. Lamar seemed very happy with Dick Vermeil's lone 13-3 season, and sad playoff showings. Clark Hunt may be the Bob Kraft for the Chiefs, I doubt it, but I can hope he is. Bob Kraft will always keep the Patriots good, no matter what happens with Bill Belichick or Tom Brady. Bob Kraft knows what he is doing.

Chiefs in Patriots Country

Nice blog taxed. I too remember the bad times...one kid asked me who my favorite team was, then the flavor was Dallas and Pittsburgh, the only team I could think of quick was the Dolphins, uugghh!, I came around in '76,and have been a Pat fan since.

looks like you got your wish. Clark is shaking things up, you have a new GM, there will be a coaching change, Kansas is making that turnaround.

Chiefs in Patriots Country

I live in RI and already have nosebleeds to the game. I will be red head to toe like i was the last time KC visited the razor.  THe fans are pretty nasty rival or not,  I also get to see them in NY when they play the Jets.  I'm pumped I obvioiusly don't get to see the Chiefs live often. Saw them @ the Giants 2 yrs ago which was a loss.  Been to Arrowhead twice for Raider day. Gt misty both times. I've been a fan for 17 yrs and i'm only 26 and yes i live in Rhody. I just hope it's not a blowout.

TaxedMainer, I didn't know you grew up in the New England area.  You have always been one of my favorite posters, on the Chiefs and NFL threads.  It has to be hard to support a team outside of where you live, and I admire your tenacity and allegiance.  It would be really easy to root for a succesful team, like the Pats, and give up on the Chiefs.  I don't have a problem, as I live in Idaho, and we don't really have a local team (other than Boise State).  There are alot of Broncos fans here, and they are probably the most popular, so I catch some hell when I wear Chiefs gear, but I'm sure nothing like you go through.

Chiefs in Patriots Country

back in those days all the local kids had different favorite teams, and it was never the Patriots.

During my era, the kids at school were Steelers fans.  I personally was a Houston Oilers fan.  Don't know why.  My heart was always with the Chiefs.  My dad used to tell me, "why you like the Chiefs.  They $uck."  I was scared for life!  LOL.

But seriously.  I think Clark will shake things up.  Lets just hope it'll be for the better, not worse.  I don't think I can handle another losing season.  I don't want to hear my dad say that to me again.  Wait.  He tells me that now every year.

So when I moved to Maine a few years ago, and walk around in my Chiefs gear, I get funny looks from the locals in their Patriots gear.

I wear my Chiefs gear EVERYWHERE.  Including, Dallas, Houston, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, the Carolina's, Atlanta, St. Louis, San Francisco.  While in San Francisco, we went to Oakland.  I didn't wear it there.  LOL.  Just kidding.  I wore it.

Keep your head up TaxedMainer.  Your Chiefs family will be your support group to get thru this bump in the road.

TaxedMainer: I admire your principles and your allegiance. I would never question that. I'm sorry others where you grew up felt the need todo that.

But let's do it again when the Sox start playing this Spring, ok?? Ring #3 in the modern era would be nice, yes??
