Steelcity Tavern relocated!!

Hi all,

Welcome to the Steelcity Tavern!  My good friend Blitzburgh was kind enough to open the doors to the original on the Steelers message board but it has since been overrun with Trolls.  I've decided to beef up security and relocate.  Come on in, order a drink, and discuss whatever you fancy.  The doors are always open and the drinks are always free.

Welcome

BTW, Management reserves the right to kick out any patrons who don't show the proper respect.

Steelcity Tavern relocated!!

I don't know NYBites thats an interesting wuestion you pose....

If i had to pick the loss that impacted the Steelers the most it would have been Aaron Smith. Losing him DECIMATED the defense and killed our playoff chances.

The offensive line suffered greatly with the loss of Hartings, but they were still putting up enough points to win games. the defense broke too much last year after losing Smith. Especially late in games. Losing him just has a domino effect on the entire defense reaching all the way to the secondary.

Its a close call, but I'm going to have to go with Smith. They only lost him for like 6 games or something, but those were much more important games than the ones they had him healthy for and obviously the regular season doesn't matter anymore in the playoffs.

Thats a great question though. Be interested to hear what the rest of you think.

I think we keep Starks, depth cost us in the playoffs. Tyrone Shoelaces replaces Gurantee Smith, we needed Ryan Clark out there. We missed Aaron Smith more than anyone else. My vote for biggest impact player loss from 2006 to 2007 was Jeff Hartings. You do not lose a pro-bowl Center to retirement and repalce him right away. I have posted two guys I like, Steve Justice and Jeff Cavender. Cavender is the Center to handed the ball to Jared Zabransky, a kid we just signed. I am very high on Ryan Clady, unfortunately so is every other scout looking at Tackles who could start as a rookie. Go Boise State, well at least on draft day.

I love the blog, if Bernie or Gymbrown post, they get their garbadge tossed out. WAY COOL.

I think we keep starks, he's a good veteran presence and he seems to like it hear. I think we will get otah in the 1st and duane brown in the 3rd. Mike McGlynn also looked real well in the senior bowl

Yeah but didn't Parker also lead the league in rushes resulting in negative yards?

Time to face the facts: If the offensive line was better last year Parker would have won the rushing title DESPITE getting injured.

Having said that the line was much better at run blocking than pass blocking. Definitely room for improvement though.

And as far as Ben and Ward I just don't really understand where Hines gets off saying half that stuff. I mean, if two receivers have equal skill sets but one is 6'6 and the other ir 5'10 you're going to go with the taller guy every time.....just common sense.

I understand the media probably blew it way out of proportion and everything and he was probably just saying that height shouldn't come before skill or heart, but still, some of the direct quotes were kind of eyebrow raising.

Well it didn't take Bennie long. I know the line had problems last year but I don't think it will be too bleak ahead. If the Steelers draft right and do a little tweaking with who is there, they certainly can improve from second most sacks. Plus Roethlisberger will be even more familiar with the offense and get rid of the ball quicker. I know the sacks piled up but Parker still was leading in rushing and Ben had his best stat. year.

i think is is being completely blown out of proportion

ask anyone on here and theyd agree that a tall reciever would be nice. ben even stated that this was no offense to hines or santonio.

lol i think they need to come to the steelcity tavern, have a beer, and talk things out!!!!!
