Random Thoughts While Absent.....

I've held off on posting for awhile, just needed a break. I did some traveling...visited some racetracks. But, I've had a few thoughts:

+ I get some trade magazines in the mail from old business ties; once you are on these mailing lists, you ARE ON these lists. One of these is a mag called "Mass Market Retailer"..(from the Menards days). I usually do my part for the tree-huggers out there and immediately put this in my recycling bin. For some odd reason, I set a recent issue on my workbench. Well, I was out in the garage having a cigarette, drinking a MGD, watching a 'lil football, and during a commercial I pick up said magazine. Inside they had some polls about different products and their usage...buying behavior it was labeled. I learned that only 85% of households purchase soap and toothpaste! SAY WHAT! But then I noticed at SceneDaily.com that 15% of people polled picked Dale Jr. to win the Chase and it all made sense.

+ I wasn't aware of the fact that Section was Native American. I am assuming this due to the "rain dance" he must have performed during the play-offs in fantasy baseball. Congrats on winning.

+ While watching the Emmy Awards, I started to wonder, Why does Hollywood think that everyone in this country is a liberal? These two-faced jerks are the same people who were booing Michael Moore just a few years ago at the Oscars for attacking Bush...now he is their patron saint. Hey, I'm consistent. I still think Moore is a jerk.

+Wasn't it Sir Charles who made the "I'm not a role model" comment? I've decided that in my case at least, it can't be helped. I wish I could separate the man/woman's private life from their professional life, but I can't. If I become aware of the fact that someone is a jerk in "real life"...I probably won't be a fan of theirs in sports/film/etc...

+It would nice if CBS had a writer who actually liked open-wheel racing. Brian,Pete..it's nothing personal here, but reading your very rare comments on open-wheel, it's obvious you don't care about it.

+One of my trips was to Lakeland, FL. By chance I was there the week that the axe fell on USA International Speedway. Sad, to see it go. No real notice. Mid-season. (They still even had a Hooters ProCup event left this season) Doesn't really surprise me though. NA$CARE is doing their best to make sure that ...oh forget it, I'll rant on this another time.

+Is there anything that smells better than burgers on a grill?

+They really need to go back to the old theme music for Randy Orton. I just don't feel his new intro. (Next Monday...Dan is going to be at RAW in Minneapolis. Hopefully they won't run out of Santino shirts)

+I'm heading down to Knoxville later tonight for the Late Model Nationals this weekend. I know that a few of you are probably aware of it. Tony Stewart and Ken Schrader are a couple of Cup guys who should be in it. If anybody ever has a chance to go to Knoxville, do it. I go to the "Nationals" and the Late-Model Nationals annually, and you really can't find much better racing.

In a word - NO!

I also agree about the Knoxville Nationals. I haven't had the chance to get there in person yet but I would really like to get there. I would also like to get to Texas and see the Chili Bowl at least once along with Eldora.

Good to see you again Jakk. Hope you're doing well...bluejay

Is that how I managed to beat you. I was watching the matchup and we traded the lead a few times during the week. I signed a bunch of two start pitchers for the following week in case I actually won which helped in the championship game. I pulled it out, even though one of my pitchers got me 0 since he decided to take a week off after his wife had a kid. If I actually followed baseball, I might have known this was a possibility, luckily it didn't hurt.

If open wheel becomes more popular, you will probably get what you want, but until then they probably won't spend the money since it won't draw people to cbs.

Thanks for the comments Cat.

Baked goods...I forgot about those. I love the smell of bread baking also. (I bought a bread machine a few years ago just so I could have that in my place)

Random Thoughts While Absent.....

Glad you dropped in for a visit.  I've enjoyed your posts, and now, your blog.

Why does Hollywood think that everyone in this country is a liberal?I think a fair number of actors were high school drop-outs.  Being an actor doesn't mean that a person is intelligent or that he/she has any common sense.  It simply means that those folks are good at pretending.  I think it's pretty funny how they tend to look down their noses at anyone who disagrees with their world view.  As if their opinions matter anyway.   (And I concur with your view of Michael Moore.)

If I become aware of the fact that someone is a jerk in "real life"...I probably won't be a fan of theirs in sports/film/etc...

I agree with you on that point also.   A few people in my life have asked me why it matters.  I just think it doesn't make sense to support someone--as an athlete or actor--who I couldn't like as a person. It's illogical.  I can respect talent, but a little humility goes a long way with me.

Is there anything that smells better than burgers on a grill?

Probably not.  I would just like to add to that scenario:  Imagine if you will, walking in from the yard --where the burgers are grilling--and into the kitchen where a homemade apple pie is baking in the oven.  Ahhhh....
