The Yankees Reloaded

Posted on: May 25, 2008 10:56 pm
The Yankees have looked good recently with some timely hitting and good pitching (somewhat). While I do believe the Yankees will be competitive and will probably finish above .500 for the year, I do believe this season will end up being more about a reloading than a rebuilding effort. I don't believe they will dangle a Jeff Marquez or any other young talent for an established player during the season. I hope they stick to the plan of keeping their own and letting them succeed or fail as Yankees. The teams of the 90s were built with homegrown talent mixed in with a few veterans in their prime. I don't want to see any more Esteban Loaizas or Ken Phelps on the roster.

The Yankees Reloaded

Agreed. Baseball has changed, in the way teams can reload on players. With the institution of the luxury tax, small market teams have begun locking up their young talent (see: Rays etc...). Another thing is, that pitchers want long term security (Santana etc...) and can easily bust over a long term deal (Pavano etc...). Cashman has learned from his mistakes, and is going about retooling the team with a different approach.
