Fantasy Baseball Draft "Just do your homework."

3 or 4 years ago I was in a league where I didn't pay attention to my rankings list before I drafted.  Not only that, I did not prepare each pick during the draft by putting them in queue incase something happened.  Well come my second pick, I lost my internet connection and Craig Wilson was selected off my rankings list.  Previously I was messing around putting players I was targeting to be breakouts at the top of my list.  However I never finished it.  Wow did I take a ribbing from the rest of the league when I got back online for my third pick.  They were relentless, but I did not beat myself up over it.  I just kept drafting and ended up with a pretty good team.  That is... good enough to win the league...AND YOU KNOW...I had to get me some payback.  So I posted a nice picture of Craig Wilson holding a trophy since he was instrumental in helping my team win.  Of course that was his only good year, but I had him when it counted.  Now the whole point of my story is...you can take a risk with one of your first 3 picks as long as your other two are solid.  So never feel you have to follow conventional wisdom when drafting your first pick, second pick, or 3rd pick.  Just do your homework to make sure you have solid picks when taking that unconventional risk.  Also, for the love of god, don't forget to prerank your players and queue up during the draft.

yeah in Fantasy Baseball, you have to watch the waiver wire and FA for the streak or come-out-of-nowhere breakouts.  Football is all about who IS good.  Since the baseball season is so long you can stash young guys and wait until they develop.  Its nice to draft in Fantasy Baseball young guys that you can get at a certain value and know that they will be worth more at the end of the year.  Like last year when you look at how late you drafted Prince Fielder or Hanley Ramirez.  I thinkthere is a little bit more strategy in Fantasy Baseball, but it is extremely long

I agree WTF.  It's funny you brought up the Pujols story.  I too reached for him that year and watched him carry my team to the playoffs.  Love it when your picks bust out.

WTF???

Hey Onion. That is a great story. Never give up. I go by the old Al Bundy saying: "Remember it is just a game, unless you lose, then it is a total waste of time".

lol NJ...As a matter of fact I do have Doumit on the radar screen this year in my two catcher leagues.  Is he a Wilson?  No, but he could turn out to be a steal in the late rounds.  Good show mate!

Thanks for swinging by Steel.  If you chose to play h2h fantasy baseball, that would be the most similar to football.  The major difference to me is baseball has a much longer schedule and you are changing players for the most part due to streaks.  Now in fantasy football you are mostly changing your players due to injury.  You should really give it a try Steel.  It fills up the months until the football season begins.
