Any Solutions To NASCAR?

Posted on: March 7, 2008 9:25 am

I'm sure this will get a variety of responses, if people read it but I welcome your thoughts. In light of NASCAR's penalty to Carl Edwards for not failing post race inspection but something looking "amiss" on the car, what would do?

If you don't like NASCAR please don't respond with the "get rid of it" and things like that. I am just curious as to what people might come up with. Personally I think they should open things up a little more as I do not care for a glorified IROC series. The sport was built on who could get away with the most and breaking the law anyway so I say enough of all this politically correct BS and get back to racing...bluejay

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

We need to impeach the France family, they have a conflict of interest by having control of NASCAR and owning ISC. No way should Fontana have two races..!! Bring back the Rock, and give Darlington it's second date back.

I for sure agree about Fontana (some other tracks don't need a second date either, IMO) and bringing back Rockingham. Bill France Jr. said many years ago that we, (the loyal fans) would not have to worry about losing places like Rockingham, North Wilksboro & Martinsville. Well 2 or the 3 are off the schedule but Martinsville still has two races. Brain France (aka The Ringmaster) does not have the passion that his father and grandfather had yet is more concerned about the money. Making money in a business is not a bad thing but how you go about can be.

It may not be be too far down the road where we'll see another series similar to Cup. Not saying it'll happen for sure but it wouldn't surprise me...bluejay

Fitz - I don't always post all my thoughts as I want to stay on here for Fantasy football reasons (LOL). I usually step away from the keyboard when I get too worked up about things. I also try to get points across without slamming things or people. Now this type of thing had been up 20 years ago I would have probably been banned everytime I posted .

I'm going to start a blog on the tire issue from Atlanta. Since people are calling Tony a whinner but saying nothing about other drivers complaining. Just like to see what people think...bluejay

I'm really liking what I'm reading in this blog..!! I thought there weren't that many fans that felt this way. We need to impeach the France family, they have a conflict of interest by having control of NASCAR and owning ISC. No way should Fontana have two races..!! Bring back the Rock, and give Darlington it's second date back. If they build any new tracks it should be unique or like a Richmond or Phoenix or Darlington.

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

DD - Glad to hear from you. I haven't been anywhere a whole lot lately. Made it here the last couple of days and this will be it until Sunday night or Monday morning. I have a lot going on this weekend & we lose an hour of sleep here in the USA (not sure if you guys do that north of the border). I stopped over at Scooter's very briefly the other day as well but didn't see anybody there. I'll have to check back.

Anyway you bring up some great points as well. I don't have time to address all of them (which I would love to do) but I'll touch on the Winston Cup. What is the big deal if a tobacco company is the title sponsor? I've heard people say it's good that they aren't involved anymore. I know smoking isn't good for you ( I still light up) but if they're willing to sponsor a series who's to say they shouldn't? People are going to be offended because of the series title sponsor? That's part of what's wrong with today's society. Everyone has to say the right things or someone will be offended. I don't drink anymore so should I be offended by all the beer & liquor sponsorships out there? How about this, I don't like Pepsi and there are reports that it can be addicting as well. Maybe that should not be allowed to be a sponsor either. It will always be the Winston & the Winston Open to me as well. Heck I still call the Memorial Day race the World 600 & the July Daytona race the Firecracker 400.

Bottom line is you're not going to please everyone and if NASCAR went back to some of the old things I really don't think they would lose many fans. As a matter of fact they would probably gain some back and generate more new ones. I don't need to see a rock concert when I go to a race. If I wanted to go to one I would get a ticket for one. I've ranted long enough for now. Gotta go get ready for our youth bowlers. My wife & I coach the leagues here in town. Have a great weekend and enjoy the race...bluejay

Purduefan & Carp - You both bring up great points, as most have here. I agree on all counts but as Mikeyfan said we may have to endure. One good thing is we have other forms of racing we can watch if they keep driving us away. Hopefully it won't come down to that. I don't like the lucky dog either and I'll probably catch some flack for this but why can't they race back to the line? Racing is a dangerous sport and these drivers know what the risks are before they strap in. I don't want to see anyone get hurt or killed (there's been too much of that already) but I if you can't handle the heat, get out of the foundry. I've added both of you to my favorites as well. Thanks for the comments and enjoy the race...bluejay

I think the best thing NASCAR could do is eliminate the lucky dog. Remember how the leader used to have to decide if they wanted to let a car back on the lead lap when a caution happened. This forced teams to employ strategy and gamesmenship. Make the drivers race back to the line and don't have scoring markers throughout the track.

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

I agree bluejay.  Nascar needs to stop with this stuff to try and gain more casual fans.  They are losing the fan base that has made the sport what it is today.  What other sport do you see change its rules everytime the wind blows?

Any Solutions To NASCAR?

great topic blue jay, I know i've talked about this at scooters

What the hell is going on with nascar, i know that the chase has been around for a few years, but it totally eliminates the consistancy part of nascar as well as the late season push by cars outside the top ten to get in. I understand that they want to make it more exciting for some people with the playoff sort of situation but nascar isn't the same as other sports, completely different sort of scoring for the season, it just DOESN'T work with the scoring in my opinion to make it exciting or fair.

Winston Cup, you have to love the sound of that if you were around the sport for the last few decades, now they have.. the magnificent sounding "Sprint Cup"??? It doesn't flow or sound right.. it sounds like some sort of figure skating event, not a sport where 43 men driving stock cars traveling in excess of 150 mph. Nascar needs to realize that they have to make names sound tough and strong, or just have one name for the cup they give out every year, have some famous person or retired great donate money for a trophy and have it as something prestigious with champions names carved in the side, like the stanley cup, lombardi trophy, grey cup (you CFL fans will know what i mean)

Nascar also needs to realize that if it wants to keep the sport growing that they need to keep the older fans happy so that they will bring their children or grandchildren into the sport, personally if Nascar keeps heading in this direction i will just go watch sprints and put all my support there. The governing body of nascar seems to have no respect for tradition, I mean taking rockingham off the schedule, and changing the name of the southern 500. If nascar keeps going like this they will end up like the NFL and start outsourcing races over seas. Could you imagine watching the Daytona 500 from somewhere in spain or something. I am all for keeping it in north america (Canada, please come here nascar, and mexico) because this is america's sport, america being north america... not wanna be north americans in spain.

The days of nascar i remember the most are watching the races in the 90's with Dr. Jerry Punch, Bob Jenkins, Dick Bergeran, Paul Page. The days with cars that stayed the same for the whole year and only changed colours for the busch clash and the winston and winston open. yeah.. i still call them that.. gotta love those dupont cars that always changed colours.

Here is to Awesome Bill From Dawsonville, The Intimidator, Ricky, DJ, The dale and dale show, Mr Concussion Ricky Craven, The Bodine brothers, Motorcycling kyle petty, the Bud at the glen, Dick Trickle, Mikey, Lake Speed, Good ol' dave marcis... how could you chear against him, Texas Terry, Mr. Excitement, Mark Martin, Good Ol' DW.

Those were the days, Nascar listen to me when i say WE want OUR NASCAR back, no more nascar made for all these company's like AAA and office depot.

I just felt a need to vent a little

I'm seeing a trend here..................I feel the same way.

Change sucks, I like tradition.
