Just when you want to believe in Carmelo Anthony, he does something really stupid.
In the United States-Argentina game, Anthony came close to starting a fight. Nothing justified Anthony's anger. Other Redeemers were walking away and then had to grab Anthony. and calm him down.
The crowd rightfully booed Anthony.
The Americans have conducted themselves with such dignity and then Anthony almost screws the whole thing up.
Anthony has a well documented problem with his stupid temper but Anthony has said the guy who was a key component in starting a brawl in New York is a different man these days. Yet his little flash of temper in a situation that didn't call for anger almost ruined the team's hard earned good guy image.
Calm down Carmelo and take some anger management classes while you are it.

Carmelo Anthony is a punkYou and I are in agreement on this, Mike. As a Nuggets fan, it has been hard to watch his game and not to compare him to a sloth. He even sort of looks like a sloth. And then when you consider the pouting, DUI, etc., it becomes tedious. I was moderately moved when he became extremely concerned about the possibility of being traded... but, after further review, I suspect that his worry revolved largely around his large and elegant mansion, which is so huge and expensive that he would likely not be able to sell it for at least ten years given the current Real Estate turmoil. Below is a link to a picture of a sloth, for your records.

Carmelo Anthony is a punkI, also a die hard Nugs fan 100% agree. While he is talented, he proves over and over to be a liability. He misses way too many layups. I wish the Nugs would trade him. |

Carmelo Anthony is a punkJeez I wish writers actually watched the entire game if they are going to comment. Mr. Anthony endured three eye pokes earlier in this game. The Argies wanted a physical game. Here is the story of the game, Carmelo Anthony played his best game of the olympics so far. Faced with the daunting task of having to carry the load against the large Argentian team, he played excellent position defense and despite the pounding he was enduring he consinstently beat his man to the spot. With Howard playing limited minutes due to fouls it was up to Carmelo to play against the Argentinian big men and the man known more for his outside game was up to the task.......... I wish Newsturds actually watched the game. If glowering at your opponet is almost starting a fight then I guess there are a lot of scarredy cats around. I have seen monks exchange more cross words then went on here. ALSO in case you misssed it ( and you obviously did) there was a lot of trash talking and hard fouls going on. How do you feel about hockey?

Carmelo Anthony is a punkNo matter who did what, it is the freakin' Olympics. This is not the NBA, or the playground. Remember the ideals of sportsmanship and class. I will tell you this, Carmelo has neither. Between the off-court problems and the thug mentality on the court, the US and the Nuggets could do much better. Is he talented enough for the team, yes. Do I want him representing my country, no. I watched the game, and Carmelo is a punk. Not just this game but almost every game he plays in. Again, these are million dollar athletes and their is no room for "he started it" excuses. By the way, his best game. He was 2-8 from the field. I don't know how many of those shots were from 3 but I would guess most of them. The only reason he scored well, he got 13 free throws to drop. Congrats, Melo. You hit free throws, but missed the point of the games.

Carmelo Anthony is a punkAgreed. Another example of a talented player with no head on his shoulders. Apparantly he'd rather try to be street credible then win and make a good name for himself. |

Carmelo Anthony is a punkNice try but, when you call a player a thug you are really full of it, are you sure it is every single game? He starts stuff every game? All this time I thought his problem was a proclivity to retailate. If he played in New York 90% of all the nonsense you use to degrade him would never make the news. How about all the great things he does in the community, or do only bad things require mentioning. Guess what NBA player is the largest philanthropist? I think you miss the point of the games, it is to make money. Between scoring cheating, doping, underage athletes and Melo Glaring: I guess melos glare is truly the most unolympic moment in Bejing. |

Carmelo Anthony is a punkIf you take a look at my previous post, you will note something of significance. He is a million dollar athlete. It doesn't matter who started it. It is that kind of third grade thought process, which escalates the situation. It doesn't matter who started it, the Olympic games are about sportsmanship and athletes should act with some class, especially professional athletes. Professional, meaning they should act like it. Do you go after someone in the office because he looked at you wrong? No, because you're a professional. If they hit you, is it okay to go after them because they started it? I think that question answers itself. If Carmelo played in New York? First off, it wouldn't make the news, because the Knicks are not newsworthy. Not to mention, he would have a lot bigger problems if he played in New York, like being in the NBA's black hole. Oh yes, all the great things Melo does in the community. The community really appreciates drunk driving. The community really appreciates him carrying pot on him and having his friends take the wrap. I take it back. The point of the Olympics are to make money. I am sure that is what they had in mind when they started them back in the early 20th century. Television revenue. As for the last comment, Melo's moment might not be the most un-Olympic moment, but it doesn't make the USA look good. Notice everyone was booing us today, after cheering for the Red, White, and Blue all games long? Please don't start with the 'I don't care what others think,' because I hold us up on a higher level then most, taking pride in our country. It would be nice if Melo would do the same.

Carmelo Anthony is a punkThe key word here is "almost / close". What that means is that it didn't happen, so just chill out. He's human, so sometimes humans do get their emotions dictates their actions. Now if Melo ends up doing something bad, it should be something to write about but since nothing happen, why are we even reading this? Stop trying to make something out of nothing, YOU are the PUNK here. |

Carmelo Anthony is a punkDId you consider the fact that they were getting booed because Argentina has a habit of bringing a lot of loud fans to their international basketball games? As far as athletes constantly being under control, it's true that they're professionals, but how many office workers do you know who spend their 8 hours a day pumping themselves full of adrenaline? Is Carmelo perfect? Should he be jawing at the Olympics? Probably not. But he's not perfect, and who are we to judge someone we don't know by a few hours on TV. I'm sure it makes you feel much better about yourself to rip him on a message board, though. |

Carmelo Anthony is a punk"As far as athletes constantly being under control, it's true that they're professionals, but how many office workers do you know who spend their 8 hours a day pumping themselves full of adrenaline?" Does it matter? So, if you are all jacked up with adrenaline, it is okay? Also, basketball games/practice typically lasts 2 hours, maybe 3 if we are talking about practice. Practice? Not a game, but practice. Sorry had to throw in an AI quote. "Is Carmelo perfect? Should he be jawing at the Olympics? Probably not. But he's not perfect, and who are we to judge someone we don't know by a few hours on TV. I'm sure it makes you feel much better about yourself to rip him on a message board, though." Read the title of the article. The message board is to reply to the article. I agree with the author. It doesn't make me feel better, in fact, I feel worse about myself because people like Melo are representing my country.
