Redeemers Better Story than Phelps

The basketball gold medal game was stunning, the officials absolutely awful but in the end the Redeem Team lived up to its name.

It wasn't their best night. The Americans at times played defense with the intensity of a Sunday afternoon jogger.

This game will go down as one of the top five in Olympic basketball history and Spain deserves a great deal of credit for taking the Americans to the limit.

Still, overall in these Olympics the Americans were spectacular, particularly Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. They enabled you to root for USA basketball again, they rebuilt our image, and they mostly handled themselves with class and dignity. If you can't be proud of what they did -- and the women as well -- then you're more cynical than I am. Which is impossible.

While these Olympics will be remembered for Michael Phelps what the basketball team did was far more impressive. Yes. Far more.

The reason why is pressure. If Phelps had earned five gold medals instead of eight he wouldn't have been called a failure.

If the United States won a silver or bronze the players would've been treated like total losers. They'd be called embarrassing. Media and fans would be screaming for massive changes.

The world and many people in this country waited for the Redeemers to fail so everyone could wag their fingers and portray the Americans as street ballers incapable of playing the precision International game.

You don't think the Americans knew this? You don't think they felt this pressure and it didn't weight on their chests like Shaquille O'Neal's backside?

Phelps had only Mark Spitz to worry about. The basketball team was fighting the failures of the recent past as well as our cynicism.

It's late on the East Coast and the game just ended. My eyes are barely open but I'm nevertheless giddy. Actually, I'll say it, as corny as it sounds, I'm proud as hell.

Freeman Accept his challenge and see who has the lack of ability. Are you stealing lines from "The Fugitive?  You are the one who is a juvenile by constantly insulting Bong's screen name instead of responding to the content of the argument .

Redeemers Better Story than Phelps

"Hello Everyone: Bong here. Desperate for attention, craving for human companionship. Have you heard I challenged Freeman? I've mentioned it 42,349 times at every outhouse, hen house, penthouse and dog house. Please excuse my lack of ability, sense of humor and talent. My pedantic posts which are always 7,000 words long are the way I build my self-esteem. This is my life. I take what Freeman writes and break it down into tiny little pieces. I steal material and ideas from other posters and writers on the site and claim them as my own. I challenge Freeman, I post on his blog about my challenging him, I post on my posts, on top of those posts, on top of other posts, about challenging Freeman. One day, by golly, as I travel across the message board universe, championing message board civil rights (have I mentioned my fight against The Man?) with my 7,000 word posts and juvenile challenges, hopefully one day Freeman will respond. Please, Freeman, meet my challenge. Please, pretty please, please. I NEED you Freeman.

Signed,

Joseph "Long Duck" Bong

(Easier and easier...)"

This response by Freeman isn't funny and doesn't even make sense.  Yet he states at the bottom, "Easier and eaier..." as if he thinks he has accomplished some kind of coup.  It's weird that someone like him is making responses like this.

Then again you're Canadian. You're used to bronze medals.WOW... You did not just say that did you Freeman? As a Canadian I'm downright offended.  Taking shots like that is just brutal.  Wait, didn't we beat the amazing Americans in Individual Equestrian at the Olympics? Didn't you send about 4 people considered to be top 10 in the world? and you come away with 1 silver?  How about in Tri-Athelon? You still haven't won an olympic medal in 3 tries at the most physically demanding sport in the world.  And thats right, our relay team at least made the final.  Oh yeah, what country has the most doping violations in Olympic history? Thats right, its the good Ole US of A. Oh yeah, we don't have 300,000,000 people in our country to chose from, yet we killed you guys in medals per population, arguably the best measure of Olympic success

I'm not anti-American, I'm far from it.  But taking shots like that. Thats just unprofessional for a "Professional" writer like yourself. So, now to my question.  You feel that a gold medal in arguably the least physically demanding sport at the Olympics trumps 8 medals in 9 days with 7 world records in a very physically demanding sport while in basketball you get a day off and have 11 other players to help you out. How does that work?

P.S. I'll take living in a country where we have good healthcare, public programs and true freedom of speech over a country that spends more on its athletes than on helping its poor.

I find it more than amusing you respond to his post in your childish repertoire, yet you refuse to discuss the actual topic and merits of Bong's posts. Exactly who is the professional here? Your arguements are the equivalent of "I'm rubber and your glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you". I guess I shouldn't be too surprised considering your past and how you handle adult situations.

Giddy and  a bit out of it pal. You must be in dreamsville to compare what no one/or team has ever done in Olympic history..I can just see you now in 2012 IF the track teams win their respective relays. You will think they are the greatest. Your lack of experience and objectivity are grossly evident. Simply put You are a fool!
