Charles Barkley was arrested on suspicion of DUI and there is lots of glee, it seems, on message boards and across cyberspace.

If you are happy about this, it actually says more about you as a person, than it does Barkley.

If he did this, he should be put in jail. Drunk drivers are a plague.

However, what's equally troublesome is the reaction of people. There are many, it seems, who want Barkley to greatly suffer and their desire for these things has nothing to do with his alleged act. They want him to burn for his views and are utilizing this arrest as a window to attack him.

These people have brought race into this conversation where it didn't exist and that tells you a lot.

So when you're posting about Barkley don't hide your disgust behind fake outrage. Just say you're happy he was arrested because you don't like him or his views.

If I'm not mistaken Barkley was married to a white woman at one time. He's not racist, he just thinks everyone else is, he grew up i Alabama for crying out loud.

Freeman isn't saying poor sir charles/black guy card, neither was he saying anything about public acceptance of black people in general. He didn't even say anything about black people who drive drunk. He was simply stating that if you don't like the man or his views don't use this forum as a springboard to jump into that conversation. Call it like Barkley, if you don't like him just come out and say it, he does. That's all Freeman was trying to say, and what the hell does Obama getting elected, Oprah or Will Smith have to do with any of this you mental midget. You just showed what side of the race card you're really on. It's a good thing we can't hear you whistling "Dixie".

So, a guy in Arizona got picked up for DUI????  So what?!  Should it matter that this person is Charles Barkley.  If he was drunk, then he should pay the price just like any John Q. Public.  To call drunk drivers a plague though?  May ne a little steep.  It is still a problem, but a plague?  And, no, he should not be put in jail any longer than it takes to bail him out.  If he gets picked up again, then a week in the can might be suitable.  For now, suspend his DL for 6 months, make him pay a fine, and go sit in on a few victim impact seminars.  That is what the penalty is, so he shuold pay it.

As far as Charles being a racist, are any of you that think he is racist aware that he married a WHITE WOMAN????  The thing people don't like about Barkley is that he is one of the few people in the media that says what he truely thinks.  Ever hear of the saying 'the truth hurts'?  It so does.  Chuck is one of the few who has an opinion and is not afraid of teling you  what it is.  If you don't like Barkley, turn off the TV.  I love the guy, he is a riot, and I wosh more people has his openness in the media.  I do no always agree with him, but I can always count on Barkley to tell us all  what he thinks!

Hello J: 1. I never used the word misfortune. Don't know why you have it in quotes.

2. Having an opinion is not patronizing. The fake outrage you state, however, is.

3. The fact you put Barkley in the same sentence with a terrorist dirtbag who murdered thousands of innocent Americans proves my point entirely. Happy New Year. End Quote

Number one...when I posted my comment, the word misfortune was in the title. Nice edit there Freeman.  That's pretty weak.

2.  You were patronizing, but you've edited the article.  if you think my post is displaying outrage, then you're too sensitive.  Disappointment?  Yes.  Outrage?  No.

3.  Nice cop out.

Don't lock horns with me, you're out of your league grasshopper.

The more that I think about it,we shouln't be mad at what Freeman writes.Maybe this is what CBS sports wants,or maybe he isn't really that smart that he can write a good article or who knows maybe he wants some of Barkley's man juice, who knows, lets just hope that this is not his honest opinion.

I absolutely love Charles! I don't agree with everything he says, but nor do I agree with everyhting my lovely wife says either, but he will say what others are uncomfortable saying. If race comes into the conversation, so be it (Yes I'm a black man 45 years old love the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks)!  I would say it's probably difficult for a black man, MARRIED (I'm not sure if tehy're divorced to be honest)  to a white woman with whom he has a child he loves and bras on is likely to be racist; but, me calling my favorite cousin ugly doesn't mean I'm mean, the truth hurts sometimes! But there is a way to discuss things too. The one thing I see here which isn't being discused is that there is a difference between DUI and DWI, someone should so some research (and spell check posts)!
