PHOENIX -- Texas coach Mack Brown: classy.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel: ummm...

Brown: well liked, good man.

Tressel: Not in Brown's league in any way, shape or form.
After what Tressel pulled this week at the Fiesta Bowl, he should be ashamed of himself. He should apologize to a number of people, including Fiesta Bowl officials here. But he won't. Because he's arrogant and he's the polar opposite of Brown.

Tressel decided to break the rules by keeping quarterback Terrelle Pryor away from Fiesta Bowl media day. There was no reason given by Tressel. He did it because he could. Pryor has not been made available to the media since Nov. 22.

Maybe there's an excellent reason for hiding Pryor. If there is, Tressel isn't giving it. He just broke a BCS rule for the hell of it, I guess.

"My feeling is that he probably had something (to do) that would be more impactful on our cause," Tressel said, in trying to explain Pryor's absence, "and that was to spend time in the meeting room."

Wait. You mean Texas players aren't spending time in meeting rooms? Why did Brown allow his quarterback to meet with the media and not Tressel?

Is Tressel implying that Ohio State players have more important things to do that Texas players?

Brown followed the rules and didn't flaunt a sense of self-importance. Ohio State is the only team that I'm aware of in the entire BCS bowl season of who purposely hid one of its stars from the press.

Tressel has never felt the need to explain himself. He plays to his base, a group of fans who are as fanatic -- and at times abusive -- as any in college sports. Tressel knows he only has to satisfy them. So Tressel gives the middle finger to everyone else.

And Tressel's paranoia and fear of the press is ultimately self-defeating. By hiding Pryor he's sending a message to his team that he's uptight and in turn the team will probably play uptight on Monday night.

Please don't say that Tressel is doing this to protect his players. Pryor is the starting quarterback in a game that could have major national implications and these are the rules. Interviewing the starting quarterback is part of the process in these bowl games.

Pete Carroll is one of the most successful college coaches in history and his media policy might be the most liberal in the nation. Being cooperative and non-arrogant has really hurt the Trojans, huh?

There's Hollywood actors attending USC practices.

All that access has really destroyed the program, right?

I can guarantee you Carroll wouldn't be hiding his quarterback from the press. He's confident in his players and himself.

Again, Brown: class act all the way.

Tressel: ummmm...

lmao

seriously?

If you knew anything, you would know that Tressel never sends freshmen to media day........

why should Tressel make a special exemption for Pryor?

the media always throws a fit when they dont get their way

but whats more important? the players or the media? obviously the players

Jesus, Freeman you suck!

Were you hired by CBS because of affirmative action or something?

YOU are saying Jim Tressel has no class? Why, Because he kept his freshman QB away from ignorant media people like you?

Coach Tressel has more class in his pinky finger than you and all of your cohorts have combined.

Freeman, do everyone a favor and quit. You just pull these ridiculous accusations on decent men like Jim Tressel and then turn around and defend people like Charles Barkley.

You are a writer and look how many grammatical errors and misspellings you have consistently.

Freeman, QUIT.

I'm not defending Tress' actions, BUT to say Pete Carrol is cooperative and NON-ARROGANT is really pretty ridiculous.  Especially after Pete goes saying that "he doesn't think anyone can beat his team" after the Penn State game.  Basically showing NO RESPECT for the 2 teams that are actually playing in the Championship game.

Half the head coaches in NCAA are arrogant.  How the hell you think they got to be head coaches???  You think Les Miles and his "damn strong football team" ain't arrogant(you forget that press conference last season already huh)? How about Nick Saban?  Think he's not arrogant?  How about that Bobby Petreno?  You think its not arrogant to just run around from team to team telling the one he left behind basically the heck with them?  How about Rich Rod, telling the Michigan fans they to "get a life"... I mean really.  What head football coach is NOT arrogant and is completely cooperative???

You're just mad because he didn't cater to you(THE MEDIA)!

Wow! Can't say I've ever heard anyone describe Jim Tressel as classless. I started to read this article hoping to see a top flight piece of journalism. Instead I read a ridiculous misdirected rant on a coach that runs a clean and classy program. Any level of respect I've held for you has been lost. Sadly, there is no accountability for your actions. You write it because you can.

To imply Jim Tressel is classless and not a well like good man is immature on your part.

And you say that OSU fans are the same way, so if they respond to you it proves your point, and if they don't, your point stands uncontested?  Very shrewd.

Now take a look at the situation and consider that perhaps you need to grow up.

You are the typical debasing sports writer who uses hyperbole to the extreme.

First, did you read the CBS Sportsline article on this topic?  You state that Tressel broke a BCS rule.  Is that accurate, Mike?  If he broke a rule, then why did Fiesta Bowl officials respond with "that the Buckeyes' starting quarterback wasn't present -- and that there was nothing they could do about it." - if Tressel broke a rule, then they would have been able to do something about it.  So it appears you are wrong in your article, aren't you, Mike?  The rule is that the team must make 30 players accessible to the media, and Ohio State abided by that rule.

The only thing you article shows is that you dislike Jim Tressel and you let your bias cloud an article with inaccuracies.  Lazy journalism, Mike, and unbelievably classless and immature.  A classless man criticizing a good coach as a classless man.  Oh, the irony.

What's next up for you?  An article criticizing JoePa for not sitting down for a contracted Rose Bowl interview, so the idiot reporters can ask him 20 questions about his hip?

Hey Freeman, You have just proven what  most people already know  about you. You are classless and arrogant.  You are an embarrassment to yourself and your profession. How old are you? That was the whiniest article I have ever read. Based on the content of this story I would guess you are really a twelve year old girl. What is your problem? You have gone out of your way to insult Tressel and the entire Ohio State fan base. To me it looks like you wrote this article in some sort of jealous rage. Maybe you're just an a$$hoIe. That would be my guess. GFY.
