John Daly lawsuit tossed

Now John Daly can return to what he does best: getting cut, getting drunk and getting fat.

Several years ago I wrote a column that called Daly something that was wholly true then and is even more accurate now. I called Daly a repugnant loser who is more scoundrel than hero. I blasted him for his treatment of women and his reckless lifestyle.

He sued me. Just Monday it was announced that a judge threw out the lawsuit. It was the right move because if there is anyone who is lawsuit proof, it's the human car wreck, Daly.

Here's a copy of the summary judgment (note: large PDF file).

The victory is not just one for freedom of speech. Athletes should be held accountable for their deeds just like writers are held accountable for theirs.

Just as all of you are in your everyday lives.

So I'll repeat what I said several years ago.

Daly is a disgraceful human being who, if he were Allen Iverson, would be despised and wouldn't get the dozens of second chances he has received.

I'll be writing more on this topic in the coming months.

First off can we do away with the term "race card".  I don't know if OJ killed the White woman, but come on it's just one White woman, think of all the Black women that have been killed by good white folk.

Should he have used the Iverson comparison, probably not. Their are plenty of legetimate acts of racism without using that. I hope you would agree with that. But then why do you go off on a tangent about all of these black atheletes, using all of these guys just to defend John Daly, It kind of makes what freeman is saying seem true...........................that

you guys will go to extreme heights to defend a guilty white guy and not make the minimum effort to do the same for the black "guys". You tell me, where am I off bass here?

I've decided to start every response I make to Freeman's rants against another persons character as a quote from an article about what happened and his response to admittedly 'lying' about his resume when applying for a job a few years's my own way of saying, 'HERE'S A COPY OF FREEMAN'S OWN SUMMARY JUDGEMENT'

Here you go:

"Mike Freeman, who covered professional football and basketball and did investigative reporting at the Times, apologized for telling the Star that he was a graduate of the University of Delaware. He said he attended the school for four years but did not graduate.

"These were lies," Freeman, 37, said in a statement posted on the Web site He added: "This was a terrible and unforgivable manipulation of the facts. . . . It was the only time I have told such falsehoods and no other deceptions have ever appeared in any of my newspaper stories or two books at any time in my 16 years of practicing journalism. Nevertheless, the information I gave the Star was wrong and I will be punished with the loss of my newspaper career."

Too bad it didn't result in the loss of his internet writing career.  I find it interesting that he says it was the only time he has told such falsehoods......his writings at CBS Sports are riddled with 'falsehoods' or 'manipulations of the facts' but for some reason (dare I say race), he 'lives' on.....

You know Freeman, at least Doyel is man enough to sometimes come back on the website and respond to a comment from a reader or two related to an article or blog he wrote. You, in your cowardice, never do...wonder if that's cause you'd lose if you ever challenged an intelligent, thoughtful and factual response from a reader...actually, I don't have to really wonder at all.

I can see where Freeman is coming from. Iverson at least gives the fans 100 percent each time he steps on the court. You may not like his style of play, but you can't question his effort once the referee tosses up the ball. Daly is a disappointment both off and on the course.

Sounds to me like you're a complete racist Freeman.  Never read your column and never plan on it

"How can Daly or Duval be taken seriously when contrasted with Tiger Woods or Vijay Singh or dozens of

others on the Tour who have to be dragged from the gym and practice areas kicking and screaming?"

These are such a contrast of players you are right, but lets look at the influence Daly has had on the sport.  Sure he is the "Happy Gilmore" of golf, the bad boy.  But look at all sports, there are bad boys everywhere.  NHL has Sean Avery, NFL has Plexico Burress, NBA had Dennis Rodman, and soccer had Diego Armando Maradona.  Every sport needs this "drama" which creates media hype and character.  Sure we all watch for how bad Tiger Woods will beat his competition, but some of us want to see how far John Daly can hit today, or are attracted to his on course antics that are unorthodox for golf.

As far as comparing Byron Leftwich putting out a smoke after a huddle,  you are creating a team atmosphere vs. an indivual independent sport   I am by no means a great writer but I know crap when I see it.  When I first started to read your article saying that Dal;y's lawsuit was thrown out all I could hear was a lil kid saying na-na-na nah-nah.  I would be less a person to lash out at you as I already feel sorry that you have to lower yourself to write such crap.  Until you are the person that puts down the "Popeye Cigarette" after driving 300+ yards and walk down the fairway to adoring crowds, then maybe you should stick to writing about obituaries and yard sales.  Disgusting article... and I cannot believe this was added as a top story in the golf world!

Whay did you have to throw in the race card?  Why not compare John Daly with someone like Roscoe
Tanner or Art Schlister.  The reason is you see things as black vs white and we wonder why this country has a racist bias...I guess it would be the same thing as me telling you to keep eating fried chicken and watermelon with your collard greens.

You are a hackers hack.

Mike Freeman is a disgraceful human being who, if he were any decent sports writer, wouldnt be questioned as a token Affirmative action hire by just to make a quota and look like they care about minority hirings.

Ill be writing more on this topic in the coming months.

It's a perfect day for me to read this pathetic of a blog entry by Freeman. Will be interested to see where he carelessly goes with the 'race' issue in the coming months. But regarding it being the perfect day for me to read's now Tuesday and the same day in which an appeals court threw out A.I.'s appeal on a judgement against him for standing idly by while his bodyguard beat up a patron of a bar because he refused to leave a VIP area the bodyguard was attempting to clear for his highness, A.I., in 2005. Just another in a long line of A.I.'s disgraceful behavior.

What does amaze me is the ease with which Freeman brings in race and the ease with which CBSSports links the blog to their website with lack of oversight. Here's my take. As much as Freeman wants to see things with his race goggles on, there are plenty of folks who despise John Daly. And there are plenty of folks who don't. He's gotten his second chances time and again but it did eventually lead to a suspension from the tour.  There are plenty of folks who despise Allen Iverson. And, even as someone with race goggles on should see, there are plenty of people who don't. And he also has had several second chances as well. And last I checked, AI has remained steadily employed by the NBA throughout his thuggery...with enough endorsements to keep him happy and not having to worry about working another day in his life after basketball.

Freeman is proving to be just another hack. If he can't say the same about Iverson that he says about Daly....that he's 'a repugnant loser who is more scoundrel than hero,' then he just may be the racist.
