Pit bulls and kids don't mix

Hopefully James Harrison's son isn't seriously injured and it sounds like he'll be fine after Harrison's pit bull attacked the 2-year-old. That's the good news.

The bad news: Harrison never apparently learned that pit bulls and kids don't mix.

I'm sure I'll hear from pit bull owners who will say the dogs are loyal and gentle. Sure they are. If pit bulls are gentle, I'm Denzel Washington.

Have you ever heard of a deadly Lhasa Apso attack?

That's what I thought.

Harrison might as well have left a loaded gun around his son. Something like this was bound to happen. Because it's a freaking pit bull. That's what they do. Attack things.

Hopefully Harrison can give the dog to a loving couple...a couple without kids.

Pit bulls and kids don't mix

It's not just that they don't mix with kids, they don't mix with adults either.  My heart goes out to this child.  I am a grown woman who was attacked by one of these stupid dogs that should be illegal!!!  It has been nearly 3 years now and I'm still suffering from it everyday!  I can't even start to express how scary it was.  So many people don't understand how difficult and scary it is to be attacked by one of these.  Maybe Harrison's child will be ok physically, but emotionally and mentally, I don't know how it would ever be possible for this child to get past this.  I know it has thus far been difficult for me.  Thank you for the strong statement and point you are trying to make.  I hope & pray that people will hear you.

James Harrison had a dog he didnt train, breed means nothing Freeman. I dont actually think you believe it happened because it was a pitbull. I think its because you want more people to read your obvious articles. Literally thats all you are is obvious. You have zero insight, and zero ability.
Pitbulls are a gentle a dog breed as I have ever encountered. Most breeds in the wrong hands, can be a bad combination. Do the math ( unless ofcourse its to tough for you to actually research) Harrisons kid got bit because of James Harrison

Pit bulls and kids don't mix

This is a lose/lose situation here. First, you have the animal itself, who CANNOT control the power it has in its jaws once it decides to attack, as opposed to cocker spaniel, who supposed has a high record of attacks in police reports. With that said, which would you rather attack your small child, who at that age doesn't understand when he is bothering or antagonizing the dog, Secondly, due to the high emotional attachment with its own history of ownership, ou will have thousands like JAWHAWK FIREMAN, who just because "he grew up with a pitbull", sees no problem with ownership of this ''SAID FAMILY DOG". Why don't we just start selling piranhas for those backyard ponds every so fond of with Japanese Kois? This breed, back in England, was never a family dog, but instead a herding and guard dog, I beg to differ. Unresponsible Breeders and worse Owners of this kind over the last 30 years have brought on this "epidemic proportations" to where these dogs are seized and destroyed on a daily basis here in Miami-Dade County, in south Florida. Michael Vick was a perfect example of the type of owners these unfortunate dogs have dealt with over this period. In some cases, its just a ego thing. Bottomlne, there is no easy or right way out of this problem now because of this.

Oh that's awesome you're giving everyone their due respect for voicing a universally accepted fact that pitbulls are dangerous and good for nothing other than elimination from the planet you idiot!

Hmmmm. I wonder how the loving pitbull would react to coming around the corner of your house, seeing a friendly wrestling match between, perhaps, your son and one of his friends- when your son might be in a compromising position.

Give it a rest. Keep your foolish nonsense for pitbulllovers.com. The overwhelming majority of educated society cannot handle some simple bastard voicing off in such stupid fashion. Man.

My comment about racism in the dog world was strictly to point out that Pit Bulls are singled out more than any other breed simply because they are Pit Bulls.  It is "racism" against the Pit Bull breed, nothing more.  I was not implying anything more than that, nor was I calling out Freeman or anyone else as a racist except as discrimination against a particular breed of dog.

I just wonder if Harrison's son was attacked by the family Lab, would we be talking about it?  Probably not, at least as nothing more than a passing story, not evoking this level of passion.  Bottom line, there are very few bad dogs, but there is no shortage of bad owners.  One of them just got out of prison, and will probably be the QB for an NFL team this season.  Apparently, another may be his teammate.

Genesis your dog being aggressive while trying to establish dominance is a problem exactly the kind of problem that can escalate into an attack. It is your job to be the alpha the dominate one. My dog a Lab/newf cross will sometimes try to establish dominance I would guess he thinks hes entitled because of his size and as soon as he does I take him down and show him who the big dog really is not in a mean way in the way a pack leader does. See if we don't set the example of what is and isnt acceptable they will try to become the alpha and do as they please. For what its worth on three occasions he tried to dominate other dogs without provocation each time I in turn dominated him and its no longer a problem. That is unless another dog trys to be dominate with him they usually only try that for a second as he is going to let that other dog know he only considers humans dominate over him. How does he let the other dog know with a very intimidating growl and if that doesnt work sometimes he will put the offending dog on the ground with his paw he never snaps unless another dog snaps at him first. And most important he never under any circumstance snaps at a human.

As a pitbull owner I fully believe that it is how you raise them. My Dog can be aggressive. But only to other dogs. But he stops being aggressive once he has shown his dominance. He LOVES kids. At the dog beach I've had 6yr old girls swimming next to him, He was actually towing them behind him using his tail as the rope. Dont hate the breed!!

Pit bulls and kids don't mix

BISANCAN....i have had encounters with a couple pits in my 35 years! One of my good friends pit attacked their yr and half old daughter when they were eating dinner n he put his pit down (he was sad) but he almost ate his child after being a great dog for years! And another friend of mine when i was 18 was attacked himself after he cut himself while workin on his car...BY HIS OWN DOG! They may be very friendly dogs BUT THE FACT REMAINS THEY SNAP OUT OF NOWHERE! Thats something nobody can trust or have around ur children because you just never know when it will happen. I stick up for the people n children of the country not some animal that u never know when is gonna try n eat you! At anytime things can turn against u with an animal!
