Calipari knows when to exit
Now that your program is about to -- as Emmitt Smith might say -- get blowed up do you still think Calipari is so great?
Whenever I've criticized Calipari as the greasy car salesman that he is Memphis fans flooded with me with obnoxious and angry e-mails decrying Calipari as a good man.
Is he still a good man, Memphis fans, now that he might have -- allegedly -- overseen a program that faces major sanctions?
Memphis fans were always blind suckers, falling for Calipari's charms.
And don't laugh, Kentucky fans, because you're next.
If there's one thing predictable about Calipari it is this. When he leaves somewhere a mushroom cloud remains in his wake.
He's coached two college programs. At UMass, that program was left in a pile of smoldering ruins, it's Final Four appearance vacated.
Now, the same thing could happen at Memphis.
And Kentucky is next.

Calipari knows when to exitWhat a complete waste of time, money and feign morality by the NCAA and the finger-pointing media and bloggers - on a positive note, it's self preservation for you all (NCAA, writers) as it gives you something to opine about, but given that the entire field of 320+ Div. I schools that offer scholarships have athelete/students that are granted admission in hope of making their business model money - let's not climb up on our "holy" soap boxes to make our selves feel superior. You write about these guys to make money. You televise their games to make money - you want the best - you hightlight the bigger games for bigger ratings to sell beer to your audience and cars and pizza, etc., etc. You are as much part of the problem as anyone - as a writer, network, pimp. You're all pimps - and somewhere on the court where the pimps don't play, there is a game. You write as though John Cheney is in your ear - and it wreeks of a personal attack based on your personal feelings; when all Bill Self, Roy Williams, Coach K - all pimps.

Calipari knows when to exitWhen you falsified your resume and were fired from the Indianapolis Star, did that make you a bad man, Mike? And I would argue that your situation was a lot worse since you KNOWINGLY LIEDnorthjersey is right on target. Freeman, you have no business chiming in about this issue.

Calipari knows when to exitI am an obsessive UK fan and am tickled to death to have Calipari is our new coach....but from the day they hired him my first thought was, how long before the backhoes, trench diggers, and especially the media or any one else who can dig will get out their shovels trying to destroy Calipari and UK. The day is here!
It's really funny to me that people think that the coach is responsible for having someone take a test for one of his recruits. Those test are usually taken at a school or college in the kids home town (Chicago, IL) and administered by educational professionals with a due process for insuring accuracy when registering students to take the test. Compliance starts there, not in the gym in Memphis. As far as the recruit having his travel expenses paid, I am sure that didn't come from the coaches checkbook and if it came from UM, then shame on them. They will get what they deserve. The whole world is loving this and so am I because, UK and it's fan base has always been a target of anyone that follows college basketball because it remains King of the Mountain and appears it will be for quite some time. Just remember, Calipari can recruit and win straight up now with Kentucky as his institution. Just watch! If there was any greasiness with Calipari in the past is irreverent to UK and our future (except those who will assume he is cheating). As he has stated, recruits are calling him. Look at it like this. He is playing poker and he will be dealt a Royal Flush each year. Not because a kid that played for him made a bad decision and cheated on his SAT, but because his love and passion for the game parallels that of the institution he now represents and the way he plays and motivates the kids that play for him he will win win win! |

Calipari knows when to exitMr. Freeman,
Using "might have" and "allegedly" is redundant. |

Calipari knows when to exitYou are such an awful writer. Allow me to pick this group of words apart, please. "Now that your program is about to get blowed up"...Memphis is going to get blowed up? Exactly what kind of punishment do you think is coming? The NCAA has already concluded that there was no lack of institutional control. They'll probably wipe out the 38 wins from 07-08, which stings, but I wouldn't call that "getting blowed up". "Is he still a good man, Memphis fans, now that he might have allegedly overseen a program that faces major sanctions?" The answer is yes, on the basis of all of the other good things he has done. If Derrick Rose cheated on his S.A.T.'s or if his brother failed to pay back the athletic department after he attended one of their road games on the team's charter (by the way, the Commercial Appeal is saying that school officials had Reggie Rose's credit card on file, so this is likely just an accounting mistake over one trip), does that make Calipari a bad man? What a stupid thing to say on your part. When you falsified your resume and were fired from the Indianapolis Star, did that make you a bad man, Mike? And I would argue that your situation was a lot worse since you KNOWINGLY LIED (which the NCAA is not accusing Calipari of- which is why he won't lose his job but you did). Here's another inaccurate statement while we're on the subject..."At UMass, that program was left in a pile of smoldering ruins" Really? They went to the NCAA tournament 2 out of the next 4 years and the NIT in one of those other years. They received no major punishment (i.e. scholarship losses or probation) that negatively impacted the program going forward. Seems to me that they were a lot better off than they were before Calipari got there, and I think you can say the same thing about Memphis even today. And Kentucky is next. |

Calipari knows when to exit"It's a coach's responsibility to ensure that recruits qualify academically."
False. It is the responsibility of the NCAA clearinghouse to ensure a player is fully eligible before they attend the college. Regardless if Calipari knew about this or not, it will not go away for him. He will be considered guilty by most people even if he wasn't involved. It it happened at one school it is a big deal for awhile and eventually drifts away into obscurity, but now that it has happened at both schools Calipari has been involved with, well, it is a different story. Guilty or not. |

Calipari knows when to exitLet's talk about what Calipari did?? Let's talk FACTS!! How can he be accused in this matter, unless he went and helped the kid cheat on the test? Sure, he is responsible to be sure the kid met the requirements of attending the school, but not how he acieved the test score!!!??? Instead of bashing Coach Cal, bash the guy that cheated, and those involved in that!!!
