ORLANDO -- LeBron James, who has crafted an image as a good guy, wasn't such a stand up person -- or a good guy -- after Cleveland was beaten by Orlando.
James blew off the media, bolted out of the locker room, and headed directly for the team bus without speaking to the media.
After the game, I didn't see him congratulate many Magic players. I may have missed it but other reporters said they saw the same thing which was witness James behave like a spoiled baby.
It's understandable he's frustrated. But this isn't how leaders should act. James' teammates faced the media. Why shouldn't James? Is he too good to do so?
It was extremely immature and jerkish behavior.
That's how'd you expect some low level punk to behave, James.

LeBron James: poor sportYes, it does make him a "low level punk." He showed ZERO class by leaving the way he did.

LeBron James: poor sportThese are Lebron's latest comments re his shunning Magic players after the defeat:
“It’s hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them,” he said. “I’m a winner. It’s not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you’re not going to congratulate them. That doesn’t make sense to me. I’m a competitor. That’s what I do. It doesn’t make sense for me to go over and shake somebody’s hand.” Can you believe this bs? From a supposed 'role-model'? What a punk. So here's the message(s) to our kids... 1) guys who shake hands with people who just beat them are NOT competitors. Or winners. So MJ, Bird, Magic, Kobe, etc etc, sorry to break it to you. You guys are just soft. 2) kids, don't do anything that's hard, or shows humility. If someone beats you on the playground or at the gym, whatever you do, DON'T congratulate them. THAT would be weak, make you a loser. Thanks for making it clear Kingo, in case there was any doubt. 3) if James says it's so, it's SO! Doesn't matter what the rest of the league or nation think. "It's not being a poor sport or anthing like that". There you go you silly people! Can't you read??! And here are Le-brawn's comments after he got some flack for showboating and clowing during the lopsided defeat of the Celtics in the last week of the season. "We're not trying to disrespect any team or show up any team," he said. "We're all professionals. If you take it as disrespectful, then you got to do something about it." (check it http://www.cbssports.com/nba/gamece nter/recap/NBA_20090412_BOS@CLE). Like Mel Brooks said, it's good to be the King. This way you get to act however you want, and then just say "it's not being a poor sport" or it's not "disrespectful". In other words it's THEIR fault for MISINTERPRETING you, right James? But guess what, if it looks like duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. 4) oh ya, and whatever you do, NEVER apologize for your behavior. Way to lead Lebron. We know you're a winner because you just told us so. But you also just told us you're a completely infantile egoist. Hey man, no disrespect... |

LeBron James: poor sportOk guys let me set you guys stright, LeBron did walk out like a girl. I know people have feelings and people get mad, but he gets paid millions to play in the NBA. If you are an outstanding star and reporters want to talk to you then that's your job. LeBron is the MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is supposed to do that stuff! I mean come on! MVP! And Howard cried over the calls because he got foulded almost every play! The refs were so far over to the Cavs side it wasn't even funny. LeBron would travel all the time and when he was called he would argue! It was crazy. But you know what? Don't even worry, because it is the Magic in the finals not Cavs! Blue and White!

LeBron James: poor sportI cannot believe the fan bias that i am reading on this thread........
The NBA requires the players to be available for interviews following games PERIOD..... I dont care what your opinion of the media or your opinion of the rule is......it is the RULE...... So Lebron James is guilty of breaking that rule...... People have described it on here as classless..... I dont know if it is or not.....but a charactor quality that he may be lacking is humility, he NEEDS to be able to congratulate the winning team.....and man up and do the interview...... It may be hard..but he would be better off having done the right thing...... the right thing isnt always easy to do..but it is always worth it in the long run... Nobody would have a bad thing to say about him had he done the right thing......he is a good guy , good personality and has been a media darling thus far...even annointed as "the King " without winning anything yet...... why jeopardize all these things that are in your favor?? Dont give me all this he is young crap.......He is old enough to cash a paycheck, vote , buy alcohol, and celebrate a win.... He has had awesome examples of how to be a gracious loser.....I.E. Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant , etc. etc. The bottomline is if Kobe pulled this...it would be twice the bashing and twice reporting on it........ so quit sticking up for Lebron when he is in the wrong.... The guy may need some growing up to do.....but he still has no excuse for doing the wrong thing..... |

LeBron James: poor sportGive me a break. He should have at least shook the hands of his opponents. And I'll take millions of dollars to answer stupid questions anyday. It comes with the job. He should have never entered the nba if he didn't want reporters in his face. He isn't the first player to come up short in a promosing season. The guy is a prima donna. |

LeBron James: poor sportI have to agree that he should have stuck around and congratulated Orlando. That was a mistake, and I have a distinct feeling that LeBron is going to look back at that part of that night and lament about what he did there. That being said, I have a feeling that the bashing we're seeing for LeBron and his actions would have been a *hell* of a lot worse if he was made to stick around and talk to the media. My guess is that most sports outlets would not be allowed to reprint what LeBron would have said without censoring, and I can 99.9% guarantee that he would have been fined for his words, so it's probably for the best that he didn't talk to the media, given the circumstances. But he should have congratulated the Magic, regardless. To not congratulate the team that, fairly, beat you is just poor judgment, even if you are the King.

LeBron James: poor sportHe should have called you a name you deserved it with the long bold and big letters comment. Fans always chant that (sha na na ) after games and I'm sure they have done it in Cleveland. Lebron is a great talent but I was dissapointed in his actions after the game. Do you think it was good sportmanship when the Cavs took fake pictures and laughing it up on the bench during blow outs? It was no fun for them when the last seconds ticked off that clock and the leader and picture taker couldn't deal with it.
