Will Mike Vick be back? It seems likely, but...

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is leaning towards reinstating Michael Vick, two league sources told CBSSports.com, though no final decision has been made and Vick's future in professional football is far from certain.

Two league sources stressed that Goodell hasn't officially decided on whether to allow Vick back into football, contradicting an ESPN report that Goodell has decided to conditionally reinstate Vick and suspend him four games.

But those sources also said that signs seem to be pointing to Vick returning. Again, the situation remains extremely fluid, the sources said, and they stressed that Goodell is still weighing several factors that could change his mind.

The action Goodell is considering, the sources said, is similar to what CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco wrote earlier this week. Goodell might allow Vick to sign with a club as soon as next week but not actually reinstate him until a much later date and not announce that date until a later point in time.

Thus even if teams wanted to sign Vick -- and there's no indication that's the case -- few would risk adding him to their training camp roster this season without knowing when he'd be reinstated.

If the scenario that the sources are outlining is accurate it could be months before Vick ever sees a down in the NFL (and again that's if a team even wants to sign him).

"If I was Michael Vick," a source said, "I'd be thinking more about 2010."

One person helping Vick greatly is Tony Dungy, the former Indianapolis Colts coach, one of the all-time classy coaches in football history. Dungy has publicly recommended that Vick be allowed to return and Goodell has strongly considered Dungy's words, sources said.

The sources also confirmed published reports that Vick and Goodell met in New Jersey on Wednesday.

Hackman I apologize I did not read your thread right. I thought that you said my comment was the dumbest, but I was not the one that wrote everyone committed a felony in there life. My comment was everybody has done something there not proud of. Also no i don't hang out with felons. I do agree with you that he should be allowed to play after serving a suspension, and have a chance to fight for a starting job if he can get one. Like you I don't care about Vick or what he does I Just don't think that he should be told that he can't even have a chance.

You are so right your job and employer would not wait on you as micheal vick's employer the atlanta faclons did not wait on him they moved on as you would have to do if your employer got rid of you, but you must agree you would be able to seek gainful employment in your field, which is what Vick is trying to do not with the falcons but with a team that would pick him up, he's paid his debt let the man live, we've all done something we weren't to proud of nobody's perfect. I pray he has himself together and wish him the best.

killaqueen - was any of that supposed to be english?  I can't even tell what that rambling garbage said.  Go figure out what a "right" is before you drone on about them, because you're obviously clueless about rights and privileges in this country.  Clueless.  I didn't go back through the thread.  Are you the moron that said everyone has committed a felony in their lives?  Absolutely the dumbest comment ever, by anyone, in any situation.  Maybe you and the people you know are just felons waiting to be caught, but the vast majority of society does not go around committing felonies and hoping not to get caught.  Do you know what a felony is?  I hate to ask, but you seem so ignorant I have no choice.

Whether Vick plays or not, I don't care.  It seems to me like he should be allowed to play after a suspension to stay in line with previous discipline put forth by the league.  The same discipline that the players union has approved through the CBA, giving the commissioner the authority to impose punishment whether you like it or not.

Hackman your an idiot what if somebody looked in your past what would they find. How can what I said be the dumbest comment ever. I would fire you right now if you were my employee just for being an idiot. My point was everybody has the right to have work to not be told they can't do it if a team wants to play vick then they should be allowed  they should not have big brother telling them they can't. Get a life you tard I know you have done something illegal in your life maybe you should not have the freedom to have a job at something you want to do. The thing is here most people don't get caught for what they do. So did you?

so what you are saying is that 50% of the people who watch football give a damn about dogfighting enough that they would stop watching football. People who watch a contact sport people who cant wait to football season to see some peoples heads get nocked off. And you think that 50% of them won't watch it because of mikes dogfighting. Your crazy most of the people that would not watch it because of that would not be watching football anyway. Millions of people watch people who have done worse then that and they know about it. Everybody watches the cowboys they got pacman accused of be at a  shooting . What about Mike tyson millions watched him and he went to prison for rape on a person not an animal if people don't stop watching for reasons like this they are not gonna stop because of dogfighting. Those crazy people at peta don't watch football there to busy doing something crazy. I don't think that dogfighting is good I don't agree with it but Mike should play and it will actually create more people watching because its a media circus and that is what drives people who normally would not watch to start. Those people who would not are not football fans and would not watch anyway.

If that's what you think that Black America is, then you are nothing more than a common ignorant, racist, bum. Don't insult an entire race of people just because you like to label "black" people. You are a peice of trash. You might have a problem with Michael Vick, Allen Iverson, and Gary Sheffield, but don't sit there and think that you know anything about "Black America." I wish that I could talk to you face to face, so that I could kick your sorry A$$. Keep your racist mouth shut and go back to your Klan Rally, you classless clown. WHAT AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. You are a coward.

The team that picks him up will wish they hadn't. I will do my very best to see to that. I'm not even a PETA member, i am a Falcon fan who constantly has to live in the shadow of the disgrace that is Mike Vick. May the team that takes him fall under his curse, they will be my most hated team in the NFL.

No Hawkman77 I meant what you stated.

Pro Football is entertainment.  When actors and rock stars fall they are allowed to work once they have served their time to society.  Vick is a proven commodity in the NFL.  He should be allowed the opportunity to entertain.  If he can't make a team then his time has passed him by.  As with your point,  Anyone that can make a roster and entertain should have that chance.

Like you and I said, a temporary suspension/reinstatement is in line with other players punished by the NFL.
