Brett Favre will one day soon enter the Hall of Fame and he should. None of Favre's recent petulant actions should dampen that sentiment.

One of the top five quarterbacks in league history. That's Favre.

Favre, however, will also be remembered for his petty behavior at the end.

He went to the New York Jets out of spite so he could stick his thumb in the eye of Green Bay management.

Then he held up the Minnesota Vikings for weeks if not months, wavering back and forth, enjoying the ego rush of having Vikings players beg him to return.

He treated Packers fans, perhaps the most loyal in all of sports, like hot garbage.

In the waning moments of his career, Favre acted like His Brettness.

He's a Hall of Famer, no question. One of the best.

In the end he also acted like a royal jerk.

Both things are true.

See you in Canton, Your Brettness. Good luck.

And good riddance.

Brett Favre: Great player, somewhat petty person

I'll agree with that!  He screwed the Vikings for 16 years, and just couldn't resist the opportunity to screw them once more!!!

Conspiracy theory??

What if it was all a plan?  The Pack reached out to Brett this offseason and said, hey we will forgive you if you drag the queen on as long as you can so their QB situation can be shambles by the time camp starts?  TJack and Sage both know that the entire team was BEGGING Favre to come and play for them so obviously they feel they are not wanted and now they have to lead the team.  Sounds like the Pack and Mr Favre may have made up after all.

Obviously I am not serious, but what if????

Favre, however, will also be remembered for his petty behavior at the end. Is Michael Jordan remembered for his un-retirements?

He went to the New York out of spite so he could stick his thumb in the eye of Green Bay management. He went to the Jets because he wanted to play football again. That would be like if you left CBS but still wanted to post (please do!)

Then he held up the Minnesota for weeks if not months, wavering back and forth, enjoying the ego rush of having Vikings players beg him to return.
If Minnesota was relying on him then that's pathetic. The Vikings went to Favre, Favre didn't go to them. The Viking players were the only reason he delayed his decision, because they wanted him.

In the end he also acted like a royal jerk. Actually you're the one acting like a jerk right now.

And good riddance.
And screw you Freeman!

Brett Favre: Great player, somewhat petty person

Yeah... I have to admit that although Favre was one of my 3 or 4 favorite players of all time, I have lost a lot of respect for him.  I believe that Favre's original retirement, back in the spring of '08 was a ruse which he planned to play out exactly as it did, until the Packers wouldn't release him.  Yet all the while, Favre has tried to paint the Packers as the bad guys.  I couldn't abide when Favre went on the air last year to complain that Ted Thompson didn't listen to Favre on personel matters.

One thing that seems to be lost on all NFL players is that we fans cheer for our favorite teams first, and our favorite players second.  I loved the Packers before Favre, I will love them long after Favre has disappeared into obscurity.  On the other hand, I'm done cheering for Favre.

I'm glad (and hopeful that) it's over.  Maybe with the passage of time, I'll cheer him on when he goes into the hall of fame, but for right now, I'm just glad he's gone.
