There likely has never been a quarterback of Donovan McNabb's stature who has had his legacy spat on, trounced and macheted.
At every opportunity, Eagles fans have expressed their disdain and Andy Reid has shown his disloyalty.
The signing of Michael Vick is another indication of that. Just another slap in the face of McNabb who's been smacked so many times he must feel like a punch drunk Mike Tyson.
It constantly seems as if the city of Philadelphia and the Eagles organization can't wait to ship McNabb's big butt out of town as quickly as possible.
Oh, and that's what the Vick signing means. If you don't believe that Vick is McNabb's heir -- sooner rather than later -- you're a fool. McNabb is once again being prepped for pasture.
McNabb is publicly playing the good soldier because that's what he is and always has been...a good person and team guy.
It's been said that Reid and McNabb are close but if they are so close why was it that Reid didn't bother to inform McNabb that he was being benched for Kevin Kolb, instead allowing assistants to tell McNabb? Their closeness has always been somewhat exaggerated.
Ron Jaworkski, who was highly critical of the move, called Reid and McNabb "spin doctors" on ESPN. Leave it to Jaws to tell the truth about the signing and leave it to Eagles homers, blind and loud, to suddenly love Vick. Yahoo! writer Michael Silver wrote that the Vick signing reinforces how McNabb has an invisible "kick me" sign affixed to him.
"McNabb is being a pro," former Eagles player Barrett Brooks said in a radio interview, according to Profootballtalk.com, "but this makes him have to put up or shut up. He has no comfort in being the Eagles quarterback, if he messes up one time the whole city will be calling for Vick. Point blank."
Exactly.
Eventually Vick will take snaps from McNabb and deep down McNabb knows this. He won't say it but he knows it.
This move hurts McNabb and puts the microscope on him almost as much as it does Vick.
We've seen this sort of treatment of McNabb before. It started when Eagles fans booed McNabb at the draft. They wanted Kid Marijuana, Ricky Williams. Nice draft expertise, Eagles fans.
McNabb has taken body blows from Rush Limbaugh, village idiot Terrell Owens, and he's been benched by Andy Reid.
Now the Eagles sign a dog killing felon to replace him.
Unbelievable.
Please, McNabb bashers, keep these statistics in mind: McNabb has played in five conference championship games. He is easily the greatest quarterback in Eagles history. He holds franchise records for playoff victories, most touchdowns, most completions and most wins.
He's one of only six players to have 25,000 passing yards and 3,00 rushing yards.
He recently broke his own single-season passing record with 3,916 yards.
He played in a Super Bowl and lost to arguably the best franchise in NFL history.
Last year, after the team and Eagles fans again wrote him off, and McNabb bounced back by going to the conference title game -- again -- he gave this delicious quote: "I’ve been kind of revived, I guess. They've thrown me out, they ran over me, they spit on me, but you know what?
"I just continue to prevail."
McNabb will say the right things but this is bad for him and he knows it.
So do the Eagles.

McNabb disrespected yet againObviously you didn't see Vicks last contract with the Falcons. He was getting top qb $$.One of the highest paid players at the time. They don't give that type of $$ to regular players thank you and who said Vick was gonna play other positions? He never said that.Every highlight you see of him he's throwing not catching or running. So how do the Eagles plan on using Vick? 3rd down back? NOT.WR? Thats why they drafted Maclin this year and Jackson last year, plus they still have Kevin Curtis. So that takes care of receivers. Is he gonna play PR? I don't think so.He didn't get signed to sit on the bench.Believe that. He's gonna want to play so he can prove that he still has something left.

How is McNabb being disrespected?Vick hasn't played in 2 years, and suddenly he's the heir apparent? Come on, this is over dramatic. We don't know what Vick has left in the tank, much less if he can play organized football without biting someones ear off or electricuting the eagle mascot and hanging him from a tree. The guy deserves a second chance, everyone does, but he's never been as good as Mcnabb. His completion percentage and ability to read defenses pales in comparison to Mcnabb. Vick probably will be eased into a wildcat type position, and won't come right in to take over after week 6 unless the franchise is in shambles and has no other choice. Granted Mcnabb is no Brady or Manning(either one), but he's an efficient QB. He deserves credit for his Conference championships. However until he wins the BIG one, he'll just be another guy with good stats, which is still far better than Vick has done.

McNabb disrespected yet againHow does Freeman even have a job??? a run around strong armed QB like vick is the exact opposite of the type QB Philly needs to run the "west coast" offence. why Freeman thinks a franchise as well run as the eagles would bring Vick in to be the starter is beyond me!!! maybe after McNabbs contract runs out and Vick has shown he can still play but for the next 2 yrs Vick is nothing more than insurance if Mcnabb gets hurt and will see time at other positions but he will take very few snaps away from No.5!!! Freeman better start learing how to flip burgers or something!!!

McNabb disrespected yet againFree you're exactly right. If McNabb is your franchise QB why go out and get another franchise QB.Lets keep it real. Before his legal troubles Vick was the face of the Falcons. He did lead them to the playoffs.I know he's not the same player he was 2 years ago but I bet he can still make plays with his feet which Donovan used to do quite often. This move could actually turn out to be nothing at all or a disaster waiting to happen.Hey Eagles fans what would you say if McNabb struggles terribly for 3 weeks late in the season. You see your playoff hopes slipping away.Your once 2 game lead in the NFC East is gone. You lose all wild card tie-breakers.Week 15 and you're losing by 17 at halftime to the 49'ers.Vick starts the 2nd half and comeback and wins the game in OT on an exciting 40+ yd run.Vick starts and wins the final 2 games.Leads the team to a SB.What happens next Philly fan? I tell you what happens next.Vick's gonna want to re-negotiate and McNabb is going to want to leave.Philly fans are gonna kick McNabb to the curb.Vick's gonna get his $$ and lead the team to a losing record and on top of that. They'll get eliminated from the playoff picture by guess who? At The Link.

McNabb disrespected yet againYou jumped the gun there, Mike. Did you see the Mcnabb interview? He said HE went to Reid and asked about bringing Vick in. He seemed anything but "disrespected". In fact, he seemed confident in his status and excited about having Vick join the team. I think you blew this one. I think you jumped before knowing the facts.

McNabb disrespected yet againVick is not replacing Mcnabb, Mcnabb has said over and over that he was pulling for the eagles to pick up Vick, I wish we in Chi would've been smart enough to grab him. He will not be playing starting QB and Mcnabb will not be losing many snaps, all that happened is that Phili picked up an insane weapon to use on the football field, it was a great move. I really wish it was the bears that had the guts to take Vick. (not to start over cutler either, because Vick will NOT be starting QB unless McNabb gets hurt, he is just a weapon all teams will have to respect.)

McNabb disrespected yet againMeanwhile, the Panthers still have Jake, who should serve a suspension for throwing that playoff game.Vick would have done well in Charlotte. The media would make Him an MVP in the NFL, and fans would love Him, too. If Mc should leave Philly, maybe, just maybe....but forget about it, Fox has his head so far up Jakes ass.....but we can wish..

McNabb disrespected yet againI couldn't agree more. Who is in charge of the content that goes up on this site anyway?! Not only is it irresponsible and unprofessional, but how can a site with as large a viewership as this one allow its content to be posted containing as many simple typographical errors as it does? Pathetic! |
