McNabb disrespected yet again

There likely has never been a quarterback of Donovan McNabb's stature who has had his legacy spat on, trounced and macheted.

At every opportunity, Eagles fans have expressed their disdain and Andy Reid has shown his disloyalty.

The signing of Michael Vick is another indication of that. Just another slap in the face of McNabb who's been smacked so many times he must feel like a punch drunk Mike Tyson.

It constantly seems as if the city of Philadelphia and the Eagles organization can't wait to ship McNabb's big butt out of town as quickly as possible.

Oh, and that's what the Vick signing means. If you don't believe that Vick is McNabb's heir -- sooner rather than later -- you're a fool. McNabb is once again being prepped for pasture.

McNabb is publicly playing the good soldier because that's what he is and always has been...a good person and team guy.

It's been said that Reid and McNabb are close but if they are so close why was it that Reid didn't bother to inform McNabb that he was being benched for Kevin Kolb, instead allowing assistants to tell McNabb? Their closeness has always been somewhat exaggerated.

Ron Jaworkski, who was highly critical of the move, called Reid and McNabb "spin doctors" on ESPN. Leave it to Jaws to tell the truth about the signing and leave it to Eagles homers, blind and loud, to suddenly love Vick. Yahoo! writer Michael Silver wrote that the Vick signing reinforces how McNabb has an invisible "kick me" sign affixed to him.

"McNabb is being a pro," former Eagles player Barrett Brooks said in a radio interview, according to Profootballtalk.com, "but this makes him have to put up or shut up. He has no comfort in being the Eagles quarterback, if he messes up one time the whole city will be calling for Vick. Point blank."

Exactly.

Eventually Vick will take snaps from McNabb and deep down McNabb knows this. He won't say it but he knows it.

This move hurts McNabb and puts the microscope on him almost as much as it does Vick.

We've seen this sort of treatment of McNabb before. It started when Eagles fans booed McNabb at the draft. They wanted Kid Marijuana, Ricky Williams. Nice draft expertise, Eagles fans.

McNabb has taken body blows from Rush Limbaugh, village idiot Terrell Owens, and he's been benched by Andy Reid.

Now the Eagles sign a dog killing felon to replace him.

Unbelievable.

Please, McNabb bashers, keep these statistics in mind: McNabb has played in five conference championship games. He is easily the greatest quarterback in Eagles history. He holds franchise records for playoff victories, most touchdowns, most completions and most wins.

He's one of only six players to have 25,000 passing yards and 3,00 rushing yards.

He recently broke his own single-season passing record with 3,916 yards.

He played in a Super Bowl and lost to arguably the best franchise in NFL history.

Last year, after the team and Eagles fans again wrote him off, and McNabb bounced back by going to the conference title game -- again -- he gave this delicious quote: "I’ve been kind of revived, I guess. They've thrown me out, they ran over me, they spit on me, but you know what?

"I just continue to prevail."

McNabb will say the right things but this is bad for him and he knows it.

So do the Eagles.

McNabb disrespected yet again

Re:yukonjon

So that is why Atlanta made him the highest paid player in the NFL because he sat on the bench and was not the franchise quarterback on that team.

Perhaps you did not know that he was an Atlanta Falcon and was the starting quarterback that led the Falcons to the playoffs.

If you are a predictor then perhaps he will not be a franchise quarterback in the future but this is a pro bowl QUARTERBACK!!!!Not a pro bowl back up quarterback that was the franchise quarterback in Atlanta.

He was the leading rusher for quarterbacks a few years back.

McNabb disrespected yet again

Really, I wouldn't have thought about the Eagles having any interest in vick, so I was a bit surprised to find out that he had signed there, but I don't think there was any disrespect involved. McNabb is getting a bit older now, and he has had a few injury issues. Vick is nothing more than an insurance policy at QB, but I imagine that the Eagles will be thinking of ways to get McNabb and Vick on the field at the same time.

McNabb disrespected yet again

Freeman is an idiot!  Vick is in Philly b/c of Mcnabb and his support of this decision.  I can't believe he is trying to play "that card" again with Mcnabb.  I live in Philly, I love the Birds, and TRUE fans know whats right- not some sports writer!

McNabb disrespected yet again

Come on take this stupid article down. Eveyone knows Mcnabb wanted him on the team. He actually has a heart unlike so many of you.  Man I thought mabye Vick was a cold blooded dog lover, but its really everyone that still hates him so much. If you think he shouldn't have same right as we all have as American's after paying his debit to society. Then you fall into this categorey of a "cold blooded dog lover".

McNabb disrespected yet again

Man that's way too tough. McNabb will be fine and so will the Eagles. I don't think Vick can help them get to the Super Bowl much less win it.

McNabb disrespected yet again

I agree with volleydog, Freeman stop freaking out...

Donovan McNabb is the starter for the Eagles, period. Michael Vick is a talented quarterback who needed time to return to NFL readiness. With Philadelphia, and friend McNabb, Vick will be allowed the time to return to game form in a friendly environment.

If McNabb suddenly goes down to season ending injury, which has happened before, the Eagles do not have to pin their hopes solely on Kolb. This move makes sense for both the team and the individual. The Eagles are a front-runner for the Super Bowl, mega-talent on offense, and a very good defense, albeit short some recent departures.

Freeman seems to be writing from a space station, unaware of what is really going on down here on earth.

Freeman - where's your retraction? Can't admit it

So after your long article crying wah wah for McNabb about how he's such a victim in this whole thing it is found out that McNabb was actually instrumental in getting Vick signed with the Eagles.

Go work for TMZ.  They might appreciate the kind of BS you write.

McNabb disrespected yet again

It is amazing how you just decided to throw some crap against the wall and attempt to make it stick.  You had no clue as to the relationship between Vick and McNabb.  You had no idea about what McNabb's feelings were about Vick coming to Philadelphia, and you had no clut that Donovan McNabb actually lobbied to get Vick to Philadelphia.  For you to say that the Eagles were bringing in Vick, who hasn't played since 2006, to take McNabb's job is outrageous.  You state that this move hurts McNabb and puts the microscope on him.  Well, McNabb must enjoy being hurt since he lobbied for this move.  If you have an agenda and want to promote it, fine.  However, do not speak for someone until you are sure that you have your facts straight.

McNabb disrespected yet again

A QB of McNabb's "stature", as you put it, ought to have a ring.  Both Mannings and Brady do.  But McNabb doesn't.Why does everybody place the Mannings in as the great QB's to win Super Bowls.  Big Ben has as many rings as the Manning family.  True McNabb doesn't have any rings but he is a winner.  He has carried this franchise for years.

Off Base

I agree that Donovan has been unfairly and cruely treated by certain idiots in the city of Philadelphia (I can say that because I live in Philly). Reid is the real problem and his offensive philosophy and personel decisions. Hopefully things will get better. But to say that Vick is the "heir" to McNabb is off base. First Vick and Donovan are friends. Donovan says that he lobied to get Vick here. Vick is an added wrinkle, truly a slash player with big play capability in this offense if used in different spots and situations. McNabb is the quarterback, he knows the offense and runs it very well. Vick has never run a west coast offense as well as McNabb. Why would the Eagles make a franchise switch to Vick? A guy who is nearly 30 years old. I think Vick will be a wildcard type player who can run the wildcat at times, run reverses, even catch the ball. He's a weapon and I'm sure Reid will findways to get him involved with things. But his involvement with the offense will not be to the extent of him starting at quarterback over a 5 time pro bowl passer. He's an insurance policy now that Kolb is down, we had no other back ups. The fans and the management DO deserve to be thrown under the bus for really ugly and disloyal behavior, but to suggest that a guy 2 years removed from football is going to come in and take the starting QB position is laughable.
