Belichick fleeces Raiders

Posted on: September 6, 2009 4:31 pm

Richard Seymour was once a dominant player. No longer.

Bill Belichick knew Seymour was clearly in decline. Seymour hadn't made the Pro Bowl in three years and he was becoming increasingly injury prone. He's 29 which in the NFL is like 39.

So Belichick dumped him.

That in itself was smart. But Belichick dumped Seymour and got a first round pick in return.

Why the Raiders agreed to this trade is absolutely confounding. Then again, why the Raiders do anything these days is absolutely confounding.

It's likely the Patriots would've traded Seymour for much less.

This trade might go down as one of the more lopsided in recent league history particularly since the pick could end up a top five selection for New England.

Where, oh where, have the once brilliant Raiders gone?

Im a professional hater.

Games in England suck.

We may have a shot now that we have changed coaches / terminology, I am not sure how in depth Belicheats video tape file on Morris is.

The Patriots are a sham. Its only a matter of time before the big wheel comes around on them.....

Do you just re-post the same tired crap on every Freeman blog? Pretty lame dude, get a life! Are you jealous that Freeman is more successful than you? That's life, deal with it.

Belichick fleeced the Raiders like Mike Freeman tried to fleece his employer by lying on his resume:

I am biased, but....

If Seymour helps shore up a terrible run defense to a middle of the pack one and if the pick ends up being in the mid to high teens is this still a fleecing?

Those aren't ridiculous expectations.

Al Davis did something to address a glaring weakness and did so by trading a pick that most media people would say he doesn't know how to make anyways and still they act like he's the biggest idiot in sports.  I just don't get it.

You can never ever tell how these things work out. If Seymour helps the D against the run, the Raiders have a shot of .500. And then they get another year to improve.

We have never had any success with any vets have we? Oh, hold on. Plunkett was a trade, Gannon a FA, Jerry Rice was past it, as was Rod Woodson. I could go on.

I know that they haven`t all worked out - Hall and Moss are two recent examples, but i can`t help feeling that a 29 year old DE can still contribute to a higher level than most first round rookies.

Also, since when have D-lineman ever had the wear and tear of, say, a RB? 29 is not too old to play DL.

PLUNKETT  WAS TRADED BY THE PATS TO THE 49ERS WHO THEN TURNED AND TRADED HIM TO THE RAIDERS

mvc don't be such a hater! Nobody forced thr raiders to make any of these trades.  Don't blame the patriots because the raiders make bad decisions.  Oh and your "sweet revenge" won't happen pats/raiders don't play each other; but pats/bucs do!   See you in England   Cheers mate.

Wow, there are tons of inaccuracies by this post by Freeman. What what can you expect from a hack writer?

Bill Belichick knew Seymour was clearly in decline. Seymour hadn't made the Pro Bowl in three years and he was becoming increasingly injury prone. He's 29 which in the NFL is like 39.

Seymour had 35 solo tackles last year and 8 sacks, both tied for career highs. He played 15 or more games in all but two seasons, which is pretty good for any DE.

In comparison, Derrick Burgess is 31 (Older than Seymour) and played in 15 or more games in just three (!) of eight seasons, including missing a hefty amount just last year. I know the Raiders gave up more for Seymour, but criticizing the Raiders based on being on the "decline" and being "injury prone" are lies.

It's likely the Patriots would've traded Seymour for much less.

Entirely speculation. It's possible, and even if true, not much less. They would have gotten a compensatory third rounder anyway, so they wouldn't have traded for anything less than a second-rounder, that's for sure.

This trade might go down as one of the more lopsided in recent league history particularly since the pick could end up a top five selection for New England.

Based on what? The fact that the Raiders have improved the past couple seasons? Considering how bad the Raiders were last year and STILL didn't have a top five pick and the offseason moves to improve, the fact that the Raiders did considerably better in the last couple of games last season, and the fact that they play the Chiefs and the Broncos twice a year, both of whom probably aren't going anywhere anytime soon, it's quite a big leap to say that the Raiders will REGRESS over the next two years.

Great move, it doesn't matter what the pick is. However, top 15 are you kidding me, the Raiders stink, in two years with Jamarcus/ heywood-Bey raking in the millions, it will be no lower than a TOP 5 pick. This was a absolute hold-up, Man Al Davis need to press charges against Deangelo Hall, Javon Walker, Larry Brown and now Bill Bellichik. The way offensive lines are rotated these days like pitchers, you don't need Seymour- U need quality depth. A High # 1, Roger need to contact the SVU, cause Al Davis "Got - Got AGAIN!!!!
