Browns finally do something right

Posted on: October 7, 2009 9:10 am
This is a sentence you'd thought you'd never read: the Browns were smart.

The Unbelievable Mr. Arrogant -- Eric Mangini -- did the correct thing in shipping pretty boy wide receiver and Denzel Washington-wanne be Braylon Edwards to the Jets.

Edwards has hands of stone and thinks more about joining Hollywood after football than getting in the endzone now.

The Jets will discover this as well.

Edwards basically had one superb season, two years ago. Since then, he's been tuuurible.

The good news for the Jets is that the team hasn't yet signed him to a new deal which means he's working on his rookie contract. That gives Edwards incentive to play well this year so he can strike a new deal after the season is over.

Maybe the Jets can get Edwards to do something the Browns never could: play hard all the time.

Browns finally do something right

The Browns made the right move, but so did the Jets. Though his attitude is dead wrong, it's not surprising, given that Edwards has played for winning programs throughout high school and college.  Some people, thrust into an obvious losing situation, don't have the mindset to play their best.  Some may say the Browns had a decent year two years ago BECAUSE of Braylon Edwards, however, I think that Braylon Edwards had a great season 2 years ago BECAUSE the Browns were decent.  I'm not defending the matter what situation you're in, you should play your best, and he clearly hasn't.  Going to New York, I have to believe he'll feel as if he has a legitimate chance of playing for a playoff contending team.  I'm not sold on the Jets making that run this season with their rookie QB, but they are a good team, and I think Braylon will revert to his 'good ways' and make an impact before season's end.  There will be those writing him off after this week's game, but realize, for him to have a breakout week in his first game with this team, that he joined midseason, would be amazing.  Give him 3 or 4 weeks to learn the system and the offense and he'll be 3rd most productive WR in that division behind only Moss and Welker (and yes, I realize T.O. plays in the AFC East).

Why would Dallas give us Felix Jones?

He has looked unbelievably good (when healthy)

BE = Roy Boy = Mediocre WR

I am happy with what we got considering Edwards Stone Hands is a complete mess mentally and personally.

That's right, I'm gonna throw a party to celebrate this great move and live with the fact I chose my screen name because of it. If BE does well in NYC (won't happen) I'll be shocked. I'm betting I'll make superstar before he ever does.

Here's a guy who never stopped running his mouth and refered to himself as a team leader(?) since he got here. Pretty sure it takes more than one good year to make the hall. I suppose he still could if they have a category for most drops ever.

If it's true that they received a 3rd and a 5th as well as these two players this could go down as felony theft.  Good riddance.

"Maybe the Jets can get Edwards to do something the Browns never could: play hard all the time."

Hey freeman did you chart all his plays like you charted randy moss' plays this year you clown?  By the way... Moss got the game ball from the team for his performance.  If Belichick thinks he played that courageously due to the injury it should tell you how far off you are as a journalist.

Fact is that as long as cleveland's Team/Qb have been playing well then Edwards was the main cog for that.  He was a gamebreaker at Michigan and had a good season 2 years ago for the Browns.  Since his breakout year quinn and anderson have been awful.  Yes he drops passes but thats a mental mistake...i.e. lack of concentration. not lack of working hard.  The jets got a steal here... maybe not right away as he has to learn the playbook but hes a top 5 WR talent in the right situation.

I'm not sure you can compare Moss to Edwards. Moss produced everywhere except Oakland. Edwards has produced great numbers one year. I guess time will tell. I'm glad he's gone. I hope he gets over himself, for his own sake.

I disagree completely.

He had a chance to get more value for Edwards before the draft but was asking a king's ransom and never pulled the trigger on a trade from the Giants.

To compare a similar situation, Brandon Marshall and Josh McDaniels have obviously been able to put off field issues, temper tantrums and contract negotiations behind them to get on the field and produce!!

Mangini has torn this team apart and I don't see how anything he's done so far that is a solid building block for the future.

Horrible Draft, Horrible draft day trades, Handled the QB situation horribly, Uninspired play out of the team . . . oh, and we're 0-4 and looking at maybe 4 wins this year. Didn't we go through this last year??

You have to get rid of one of the QB's. They both think they should start and you have a divided locker room. A football team should have a starter and a backup that can start but knows he's the backup. When you have 2 QB's that think they should be the #1, you actually have ZERO #1's.

If Anderson has a horrible game against the Ravens (which he very well could), do we go back to Quinn??

Look at the successful teams, the head coach has disiplined players, smart co-ordinators, players that are accountable and a handful of veterans that are leaders in the locker room. Yes, every team would love to have Peyton Manning but look at the 49ers. They are winning with Shaun Hill but Mike Singletary is getting everything out of his team and knows his player's strengths and weanesses and puts them in a position to succeed. Will the 49ers win the Super Bowl? Probably not, but I know they'll give everything they have and on a given Sunday, they'll beat the elite team. What about the Dolphins? Parcells/Sporano has that team playing their hearts out. They don't have the talent of the Indianapolis Colts, but they came within a few minutes of beating them. 2 wins to 11 wins in one year!

As a Cleveland native and a Carolina transit, I'm dying this year as a Browns and Panthers fan!

I agree.  If we could have gotten 5 bucks for him it would have been a good deal.  For draft picks, a great deal.  He is horrible, now Robiskie can play.  I'd trade a Michigan reject for an OhioStae alum who cant actually catch any day.

That's not Table scraps - Mangini knows what he is doing.  Just wait until Ratliff is your #1 QB and Stuckey gets on the field.  Remember that Marques Colston was a 7th round pick as well - a seventh rounder with the right QB can light it up as good as any.  Great rebuild trade for the Browns!

Lets see, can't catch, can't run good routes, doesn't block, skips practice, gets in trouble just about any time he leaves the house - how in the world did the Browns get anything for this guy?? Mangini (Mr. 3-4, another 3-4 years the Browns are looking for a new coach) somehow got a receiver and draft picks. Mr. Edwards, you thought Browns fans were bad, wait until you drop 4 passes and don't run routes leading to 3 picks for Sanchez, you will be the one getting punched late night while out on the town in NYC. As a Browns fan, I just wish I could be there to witness it. Browns might go 0-16 but at least I don't have to watch your sorry a$$ prance around anymore.
