Browns finally do something right

Posted on: October 7, 2009 9:10 am

This is a sentence you'd thought you'd never read: the Browns were smart.

The Unbelievable Mr. Arrogant -- Eric Mangini -- did the correct thing in shipping pretty boy wide receiver and Denzel Washington-wanne be Braylon Edwards to the Jets.

Edwards has hands of stone and thinks more about joining Hollywood after football than getting in the endzone now.

The Jets will discover this as well.

Edwards basically had one superb season, two years ago. Since then, he's been tuuurible.

The good news for the Jets is that the team hasn't yet signed him to a new deal which means he's working on his rookie contract. That gives Edwards incentive to play well this year so he can strike a new deal after the season is over.

Maybe the Jets can get Edwards to do something the Browns never could: play hard all the time.

Oh Braylon...so talented, so much potential and yet so unbelievably NOT focused. I have followed him since his junior year @ Michigan and defended him to the death. But recently, even I have become annoyed with the antics of my favorite WR. (Calling out LeBron James?! Really...in Cleveland? wow...) Maybe a change a scenery (and closer proximity to more and bigger TV/Radio stations) will help him return to his '07 form. I have seen ppl compare this to the Randy Moss situation. I hope, because I like Braylon, that he can get it together. Otherwise, he will always be a "what coulda been" type of guy and the Jets better get all they can outta him in two years.

At least this should send a message to the Browns that Mangini and the Organization will not tollerate underperformers and off-field trouble makers.  As color_finn said, lets get 2nd round picks Robiskie and Mass out there together and see what they can do.

Table scraps??  How many TDs does Edwards have this year? [0] How much yardage? [34/gm] You're enamored with his 800 yd/ 3 TD performance last year?  How much did he help in last Sunday's thrilling OT game?  NOT AT ALL!  For a wannabe, the Browns made a killing!  Stuckey has matched Edwards this point in stats, PLUS we get 3 more players! And you are upset.... unbelievable! You cannot right a ship by dragging an anchor. Do us a favor -- when you talk about the Browns, don't say 'we'!

Something right?  I agree trading Edwards was the right move, but got back all the wrong parts.  The Browns needed to trade Edwards to the Cowboys for Felix Jones.  The Browns have an excellent OL, but no running game.  At least if we could run then ball, we could be somewhat competitive.  The good news is, who do you want Bradford or McCoy:)

asdf, if we're going to talk about players putting up numbers like they did in 2007, heres to hoping that Derek Anderson plays like he did the first half of the season in 2007...but seriously this could be a good move for both teams, but right now its clear its a good move for at least the Browns, god Im excited about seeing Robiskie and Mass on the field at the same time sunday, Ill be in attendance!!!

BKM,

I'm glad they  dealt him SOMEWHERE...ANYWHERE.

A move like this sends a strong message to the rest of the team.

I'm not sure whether Robiskie is ready to step into Edwards' shoes so soon, but he'll have to. I never thought I'd see Robiskie/Massaquoi on the same field so soon, but it certainly looks like that will be the case.
Hey Cheeks,

I posted over on your blog.  I'm glad they dealt him too.

Great move.  I heard that Edwards will be joining Ryan Cecrest and Dick Clark on New years Eve.  They wanted an expert on dropping the ball.

Brown's fans rejoice. This has to a better multi player trade than my Chiefs made with Jared Allen (yes, it was painful watching MNF). I can see Edwards working hard and finishing the season hard to impress the team & NYJ fans. But next season he'll become comfortable and fall into the same pattern he's been in the last season & a half.
