Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will announce his retirement on Tuesday morning barring a last minute change of heart, a school official told CBSSports.com.
Both Bowden and the school wanted to officially remain tight lipped on Monday night out of respect for Bowden.
But it's expected that unless Bowden decides at the last minute to stay (which is possible but highly unlikely) his retirement will be announced on Tuesday. The announcement will come as some sort of statement from the school.
Bowden, a source said, has reluctantly come to the realization that it's time to move on.
Bowden won two national titles but this past season lost six games for the third time in four seasons.

Bobby BowdenYou clearly have no idea what Joe Paterno does for his university compared to these 'young coaches' that jump from school to school recruiting kids making promises to them and their families and then leaving them the following year. Joe Pa has coached for 50 plus years at the same school he has coached fathers, brothers, sons, cousins he gives so much back to the school and the community you are a bum for saying he should follow suit. And you clearly have no idea of what you are trying to talk about. Do you really think that he still calls the plays? He has given so many young coaches oppertunities and still does. As for Bobby Bowden so what if he gave his son a shot. Wouldn't you? Its easy to critcize someone from your computer but I'd dare you to walk a mile in that mans shoes you wouldn't last 100 yards. Why try and tarnish a mans life with your idiotic statements. Don't hate just because you graduated from FSU and your life isn't all you thought it would be I hear you can order a diploma from FSU online.

Bobby Bowdennot only did Bobby Bowden bring respect to FSU, he brought respect to the entire state of Florida when it came to Football. Being a UM fan and seeing the state of football in Florida in the early 70's, it was Bowden who raised the bar and made the U and Florida have to follow. He had a great coaching career and I wish him all the best.

Bobby BowdenThis does sound like someone who roots for Penn State and Paterno...lets see...complaints about Bobby and his schedule...Big Joe over the years has worn out Temple and all the big least teams possible...and he will never accomplish what Bobby has...I do think the wonderful Penn State was just 3-8 and 4-7 and few years ago...well deserved...they played someone...14 STRAIGHT YEARS 10 WINS AND TOP FIVE FINISHES...You can only dream of that...You will probably lose to Michigan next year!!! Have a great day!

Bobby BowdenI'm not a fan of Bobby Bowden but you have to give it to him that he was a hell of a football coach. Its sad to see somone like this pretty muched forced into retirement from thier position. Other articles have reported that the school gave him 2 options that really weren't options at all: he could stay on as an 'ambassador to the program' (posterboy and thats about it) or retire.
