Bobby Bowden

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will announce his retirement on Tuesday morning barring a last minute change of heart, a school official told

Both Bowden and the school wanted to officially remain tight lipped on Monday night out of respect for Bowden.

But it's expected that unless Bowden decides at the last minute to stay (which is possible but highly unlikely) his retirement will be announced on Tuesday. The announcement will come as some sort of statement from the school.

Bowden, a source said, has reluctantly come to the realization that it's time to move on.

Bowden won two national titles but this past season lost six games for the third time in four seasons.

The money was the problem.  Explian to me this how do you justify continiung to pay an 80 year old coach $2.5 million and pay off his son who is no longer on the staff.  All this while you will not even interview minorities for head coaching positions.  The entire thing is disgusting.  Bobby Bowden did a great job in the 90's but you do realize that this is 2009 almost 2010.  The only reason people are upset is because good ol Bobby reminds them of thier grandad.  You cannot be owed a job.  That's unamerican.  You continue to give jobs to good ol boys like Bobby and Jimbo and the black players continue to got out there and perform for free.  The entire system is bad and needs to be revised.  I graduated from FSU and Bobby Bowden's name is not on my degree.  The two entities are seperate and he is a state employee who is no longer diong his job.  You are owed retirement benefits not the job.  Let's give him his do and move on.

Who is Mike Freeman?

Wait. Don't tell me. Isn't he the guy who broke with:

Either Clinton Did Sleep with that Woman, or He Did Not Sleep with that Woman

He promised to get back to us on that one, but never did. Or is this the Mike Freeman who reported breathlessly:

Moon Made of Green Cheese -- Or Maybe Not

Thanks for almost letting us know what might or might not happen. FYI, Mike, a few famous football players might or might not divorce their wives next month. You'll wanna get right on that one.

JoPa and Bowden are not in the same in the same class. PSU is honor, FSU remedial.

For all the haters

For all of you saying "he should go" or "bye bye" or "good riddance" or anything along those lines......I'd like to see YOU do half the things he has done.  Most of you wouldn't last half a season at a program like FSU or WVU.  So what, you don't like the guy or the school or whatever.....chances are, you have no idea who this man is and/or the school beat your favorite school quite a few times while he was coach and you are still bitter.  Or maybe you didn't get a scholarship to FSU or WVU to play football so you are still harboring resentment.  Who knows?

Anyone thinking Joe Paterno is such a better coach than Bowden.....I wonder what exactly you were saying about five to ten years ago when PSU was doing good to get to 7 or 8 wins each year and FSU was winning 9 or 10 a season.  You were probably saying the exact same things about JoePa as you are now about Bowden.

Buh bye bobby he may have a lot of wins but he will never have the integrity, the love, the admiration of the greatest coach in the history of college football JOE PATERNO.  The only reason boobie hung aound for so long was that he wanted to go out with the most wins, but as JOE PA showed central PA is where that title will rest for a long long long time.  Good ridence to boobie his inproprieties, his cheating, his running up scores he got exactly what he deserves the boot out the door!!!!!!

Bobby Bowden

I lived in Tallahassee for several years and grew to respect Bobby Bowden, not only as a great coach, but also a great man of God.  Two examples: (1) I attended the same church he did and would see him go to the balcony just before church started so as not to disrupt the service.  Even with this, he was always gracious in giving the kids his autograph and his time.  He would then slip out just before the end of service.  He knew the service was not about him.  (2) I heard him speak at a church.  Most coaches talk about football in this type of situation.  Coach Bowden gave a wonderful message of God's love and salvation through Jesus Christ.  We will all miss he Coach, but, hopefully, we will continue to hear from the great man that is Bobby Bowden.  (I also always thought that Ann was a great lady).
