Bobby Bowden

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will announce his retirement on Tuesday morning barring a last minute change of heart, a school official told CBSSports.com.

Both Bowden and the school wanted to officially remain tight lipped on Monday night out of respect for Bowden.

But it's expected that unless Bowden decides at the last minute to stay (which is possible but highly unlikely) his retirement will be announced on Tuesday. The announcement will come as some sort of statement from the school.

Bowden, a source said, has reluctantly come to the realization that it's time to move on.

Bowden won two national titles but this past season lost six games for the third time in four seasons.

Bobby Bowden

I am not a FSU fan but I am also not a hater. The name of the former Notre Dame coach should not even be mentioned with the name of Bobby Bowden. While Bobby's team have not always been squeaky clean, he deserves our admiration for his dedication to FSU and college football in general. Bobby showed his class at West Virginia when assisted the Marshall program after the tragic plane crash. Bobby Bowden is a great football coach and even a better human being. Thanks for the memories!!!

Bobby Bowden

Bobby was a class act and is quite possibly the greatest coach ever not named Paterno.
He coached at WVU my freshman year (1975) and I have followed his career ever since.
Congratulations Bobby on a wonderful career and for establishing a football legacy that
will not be forgotten.

Bobby Bowden

I believe Bobby Bowden was the greatest. I don't know much about the coaches before him, but I grew up with him in his prime. No star ever shown so brightly.

Bobby Bowden

Regardless of the scrutiny of these last few seasons, I think Bobby Bowden as a coach deserves all the respect in the world for what he did for college football. It's too bad the Charlie Weis announcement is going to take away from the Bowden retirement, no disrespect to Weis intended.
