Meyer will be back

First, let's get the rumors of out of the way:

-- Two NFL sources said Jon Gruden wants to coach the Gators and the Gators might be interested in him. But since Gruden is associated with every job in the known universe including astronaut, the King of Prussia, and the President's Czar of Football, such a rumor is to be expected.

--There is a great deal of skepticism about the motive for Meyer's retirement in the professional and college ranks. That's all I'll say on that. We are in the Age of Sports Skepticism and such skepticism, like a Gruden rumor, is also to be expected.

--If Steve Spurrier returns to coach the Gators, I'll eat my laptop.

--Bob Stoops is a different matter altogether.

--Ditto with Mike Shanahan.

--Urban Meyer and Bobby Bowden both stepping down in same year. Very weird.

And, very quickly, a question: why didn't Meyer make his announcement after the bowl game? Isn't a bit selfish to say he's stepping down now of all times?

Second, and this is the biggest point, Meyer will be back.

He's stepping down because of lifestyle issues, not because he's about to suffer a cataclysmic health problem.

He'll be back because that's what coaches do. They come back.

Meyer will adjust his lifestyle, take some time off, get refreshed and coach again within a few years, at the most, and likely in the NFL.

He'll be back. You can count on it. No matter what he says now.

In the meantime, let the speculation begin.

Meyer will be back

To all Canes fans who persist in living in the past, do you honestly believe we wouldn't have wanted to have you on the schedule during the Urban Meyer era? Please. Go ahead and relish in the fact that you were lucky enough to play us during the dark era (read it, Zook years) and count your blessings that the schedule only allowed us the opportunity to shut you up once during the last five years.

Uh, while he did have Tebow in 2006, Leak took the majority of the snaps, and they won, and they put 41 on Ohio State, in the BCS game and Leak did most of it.  Is Florida going to be worse next season probably, they are losing Tebow, alot of the defense.  Is Florida going to be awful?  No, they will probably go 5-3 or 6-2 in conference and win 10 or 11 games and make a Jan bowl game.  Meyer knows every top team takes steps back and comes back in a year or two or three, look at Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Alabama ect.  The best schools always have down years, but come back, and Meyer knows this.

Its hard to scare someone that wont play you. What the UF record in our last 7 matchups? A (1-6). Im thinking that would scare most ADs into not playing them.

Uhhh... it's called recruiting?  Ever hear of it?  That's why he's announcing it now instead of after January 1.  It's why Brian Kelly had to take the Notre Dame job instead of waiting until after his Cincinnati team played in the Sugar Bowl.  C'mon, that's a little too easy to whiff on, isn't it?in otherwords, when dealing with 18-22 year old kids, it's OK for their coach and leader to bail on them right before the biggest game of some of their lives and be an overall douchebag for the "betterment of the team."

Makes sense.

lISTEN UP LIZARDEATER meyer is not stepping down because of Tim TEEbow  leaving. He has a genuine reason for stepping down and he chose the right time to announce it. Since he is the most competitive coach in the NCAA DIVISION 1 A ,(Nick Saban might be as competitive) he announced it before the Sugar Bowl becauce he wants to go out in the top 5. In other words he wants to go out on top. Anybody that thinks Urban meyer is not sick are sick themselves. I'm from Ganesville i don't live there now but all my cousins have told me that he has severe high blood pressure and a bad heart valve. That's a deadly combination, and you can double that danger by being a SEC coach take that to the bank. What's up with all the hate i just don't get it. Here is a man and a college football coach whose whole life has been competing in college football and now he has to give up the thing he love's most besides his family and everyone want's to down him for because he is sick. All i can say is i ever felt that way about another human being for the reasons you people do i would damned ashamed of myself.

Meyer will be back

Im sick to my stomach reading some of the posts that you jackalopes have written. You may think you are being cute and funny but all you are accomplishing is showing us what your true character is. Some of you have absolutely no idea what integrety, honor and sportsmanship are. If you have nothing nice to say (write) then just log off and keep your smut to yourselves. Stop pointing out to the rest of the world how truly classless you are. Its OK to dislike the Gators, Meyer and Tebow, but to print some of the crap you are spewing is disgusting. Seriously, get a life and try to be a productive member of this country.

With that being said, GO GATORS!!!
