The city of Philadelphia never fully appreciated Donovan McNabb. I was there when Eagles fans booed him at the draft. They've criticized everything from McNabb's throwing to his touchdown celebrations. In my 20-plus years of covering the NFL few superstars have been as under-appreciated by its fan base -- in any sport -- as McNabb has been by Eagles fans.
Now, the same could be said for the Eagles organization itself. Andy Reid was supposedly a McNabb proponent. Well, with friends like these...
The Eagles will pay for this ridiculously arrogant trade. They'll pay dearly. McNabb has three to five years left in that 33-year-old body. (He takes beter care of himself than Brett Favre does.) He'll play the Eagles twice a year and he'll crush them. At least, I hope he does. I hope McNabb throws for 400 yards a game when he plays Philadelphia. I hope he eats a cheesesteak every time he scores, too.
Maybe he'll sing that Rocky theme song after a TD pass.
The Eagles think so lowly of McNabb they traded him within the division. They're going to pay for that arrogance.
Football is a business and the Eagles can do what they want but the way Philadelphia -- the team and its fans -- have treated McNabb has stunned even a hardened cynical hard ass like me.
He never got into trouble. He wasn't a jerk like Terrell Owens. He won four straight division titles, went to five conference title games and a Super Bowl. Those were his crimes.
So you got what you wanted, Philly fans. McNabb is gone. You can't blame him for every ill in the world any longer.
Good luck with Kevin KornKolb and Michael Vick.
You're going to to need it.
And when McNabb returns to a Super Bowl without you, Eagles fans, who will you blame then?

Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabbKevin KornKolb? Come on Freeman, act your age, not like you're 10 or something. No wonder you write a free blog for an internet website and not for some legitimate newspaper or something. You're too immature to write real articles.

Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabbDisloyal?
Did they cut him like Westrook or Runyan, trade him to Cleveland like Sheldon Brown, or low ball him like Brian Dawkins? NO? The Eagles gave Donovan one last year to take one more shot at the Super Bowl, and Donovan came up incredible small in two losses to Dallas. It's clearly time for the Eagles to go young, and they have a young QB whose contract is up after this season- common sense tells you its time to give him a shot.. They didnt cut McNabb- they didnt dump him to Oakland or buffalo...he OK'd the trade to Washington- maybe thats arrogant- maybe its a rebuilding team taking the best offer they could get, which happened to be a team with 4 winning seasons in the last 17 years.. now, if Donovan is in his prime could never come up with the big game to get the Eagles to the Super Bowl, you really think its going to happen with the Redskins? And Donovan already set up the Skins fans for failure in his press conference... it's about team, and he can only do so much.. when they lose, he'll make statements about his team being too young, or say "we were winning when I left the field" im tired of out of town "experts" who don't know what is really going on, but this lame blog just put me over the edge- just alot of ignorance and stupidity in this column.. yes, donovan was very good, and yes andy reid is arrogant and deserves alot of the blame for the EAgles not reaching the ultimate prize. but don't blame us fans for wanting more than we got. |

Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabbI wanted to get my "Too Sense" in to this juicy burger! Philly fans, more than knick/yankee fans, and even Snyder Era Redskin fans, are the biggest tool bag ungrateful 'sons-of-uh-beeches!' Now, the reason being greater than the overwhelmingly critical Knick and Redskin fans is because the Knicks and Redskins just suck...bad. So of course the local fanbase is going to be perturbed. But Eagles fans...despite their success (no championships...but some divisional titles is better than nothing,) Philly would hate on their players and their management, even if they were their own mother. |

Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabbWhy race always comes in to play with African-American players is beyond me. No one compalined racism when Tampa Bay sent Mike Alstott away!!! I hate to add to this argument but you forgot John Lynch with Tampa Bay too... What about Joe Montana, Troy Aikman (abeit concussions like Westbrook ended his and also Steve Young's career). We could go on. But what did any of those guys really do that late in their career? Not a damn thing!
I think everyone is just complacent. I wish the best to Don he was my fav Eagle, but his best years are behind him. Yes his numbers are comparable to Elway in most stats except for ONE. FOUTH QUARTER COMEBACKS (and thus far 2 SB rings). Also, Don has been injured for more of his career than John Elway was. If he wins a SB at this point - so be it, but I highly doubt it! This was just a rant by a bad and predictable sportswriter. However he has won, in jounalism (especially online) 'hits' and comments help his cause. I guess we're all losers here... |

Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabbGood for you. You were there when 30 morons who follow the idiot who is on the morning sports talk radio show went to New York with the sole intention of booing whoever the Eagles picked if it wasn't Ricky Williams. I wasn't there, and I didn't boo Mcnabb.
I also wasn't one of the people who liked to go out of there way to find something wrong with what McNabb did or said, again, that was mostly the idiots on WIP and the nitwits who call into those shows. I wasn't calling for McNabb to be traded, but I know why they did it. They have quite a few holes to fill, and they used a pretty high pick a few years ago to get Kevin Kolb, so they moved McNabb, got a good draft pick, plus another one next year, and have a qb they think can perform in this league. Washington apparently offered them the best deal, so even though it sucks to trade within your own division, I think the Eagles know Donovan's strengths and weaknesses better than anyone and should be able to game plan against him. Also, why are you bashing us fans anyway, we didn't trade him. Now if we can only get rid of the ex-con, animal killing, pathetic excuse for a qb Vick, I will be a very happy Eagles fan. It would at least make up for losing someone who is arguably the best QB the Eagles ever had. |
