Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabb

The city of Philadelphia never fully appreciated Donovan McNabb. I was there when Eagles fans booed him at the draft. They've criticized everything from McNabb's throwing to his touchdown celebrations. In my 20-plus years of covering the NFL few superstars have been as under-appreciated by its fan base -- in any sport -- as McNabb has been by Eagles fans.

Now, the same could be said for the Eagles organization itself. Andy Reid was supposedly a McNabb proponent. Well, with friends like these...

The Eagles will pay for this ridiculously arrogant trade. They'll pay dearly. McNabb has three to five years left in that 33-year-old body. (He takes beter care of himself than Brett Favre does.) He'll play the Eagles twice a year and he'll crush them. At least, I hope he does. I hope McNabb throws for 400 yards a game when he plays Philadelphia. I hope he eats a cheesesteak every time he scores, too.

Maybe he'll sing that Rocky theme song after a TD pass.

The Eagles think so lowly of McNabb they traded him within the division. They're going to pay for that arrogance.

Football is a business and the Eagles can do what they want but the way Philadelphia -- the team and its fans -- have treated McNabb has stunned even a hardened cynical hard ass like me.

He never got into trouble. He wasn't a jerk like Terrell Owens. He won four straight division titles, went to five conference title games and a Super Bowl. Those were his crimes.

So you got what you wanted, Philly fans. McNabb is gone. You can't blame him for every ill in the world any longer.

Good luck with Kevin KornKolb and Michael Vick.

You're going to to need it.

And when McNabb returns to a Super Bowl without you, Eagles fans, who will you blame then?

This is why gator fans should stick to swimming and tennis. Westbrook has missed how much time the past years? Donovan is a great qb but would have wanted way to much money after this season to resign and we would have let him go somewhere else with nothing back for him. Kevin is younger and a better west coast offense qb since he is more accurate. We drafted a running back last season in the first round incase you forgot now with two picks in the top 40 most likely will get another one.  You really comparing randle el and moss to jackson and jeremy both are younger and just as good. If the redskins win the super bowl with McNabb it wont be beacuse of the coaching change they made? I also have been watching Parker for years since my wife is a die hard steeler fan and that guy can't hold onto the ball to save his life.

Maybe we should get Tebow I mean since his own old players are now throwing him under the bus. Stick to college for now before your team falls of the face of college football again. Tell your coach to calm down dont need him having a heart attack on the practice field for yelling at reports for doing their job.

Lets be realistic he is on the skins so he is not going to the superbowl. The only reason he requested the skins is there long history of overpayings over the hill players. Look at the fat albert signing for a 100 million last year. Unless there is a lockout the skins have as much chance as the Lions or the Bungles making the superbowl.

With that said it was a idiotic move by a usually smart organization to trade him away to anyone let alone in the division. McNabb has 2 or 3 good seasons left. Look around the league at the teams that have been looking for a QB for a decade or more and still haven't found one. You don't give up your QB unless he is all used up. Maybe he is and they dropped there baggage on a rival.

No, cry you a river.  Not once did I hear Freeman use any racial tones to his commentary.  And you are a moron to think that McNabb being #2 in jersey sales was contributed by just the city of Philadelphia.  His jersey is seen in every city.  The fact that his jersey had #2 sales, mostly were out of state sales, look it up, jackass.  Philadelphia is a classless sports city.  Always will be.

You must be really dense bsarndt.

Kevin KornKolb....K K K

Idiot.

Nice KKK reference....

Good luck with Kevin KornKolb

Freeman is such a crybaby when it comes to defending his race.

Newflash, that stuff died a long time ago and the only people keeping it alive are the fringe folks like you Mikey.

Now everyone scrambles here to defend themselves about bashing McNabb over the years.  I have a bunch of Philly fan friends and they seem to bash McNabb for a lot that happens.  I see nothing wrong with what Freeman said.  Except the shot at Kolb and Vick who should have nothing to do with this.

If this post is racist why did he take a shot at Vick?  Did everyone stop reading after KornKolb?

I'm sitting here wondering as well... what are the Eagles going to do now?  They have shipped off so many players the past 2 years.  I thought Dawkins was surprising but this year takes the cake.

It was time to move one. I was a huge D mac fan and even I know it is time to move on. Not because I think he was a bad QB but becaue this is the time to go young. Even if he was the started QB next year they will not win. The need to re build there D and now is the time to stock pile young talent, let the young QB who you have groomed for the past few years to rise or fall.

The Eagle fans did not mistreat McNabb.  The Eagles organization did not mistreat McNabb either.  The Eagles paid McNabb $120 million dollars.  I wish I was as mistreated as McNabb.  The Eagles fans did not boo McNabb on draft day either.  They booed the Eagles for drafting McNabb instead of Ricky Williams.  You would think after 11 years a writer on CBS would know this, but he doesn't.  The Eagle fans cheered for McNabb for at least the first 8 years.  They didn't boo him off the team when he threw 3 picks to Ronde Barber in their second NFC conference championship game.  They didn't boo McNabb after he throw 3 picks to Ricky Manning Jr. in their third NFC Conference Championship game.  They cheered McNabb when he led them to a Super Bowl.

The fans also bought his Jersey, ate his soup, and helped to make him a very rich man.  However, the fans want their heroes to perform like heroes when the game is on the line.  The fans have seen too many poor performances in the big games from McNabb.  Too many gaffes running the two minute offense.  Too many interceptions, too many balls in the dirt,  too many looks at McNabb's eyes in which he appears lost on the field.  Too many stories from his own teammates about whispers of throwing up in a huddle.

The fans have seen Andy Reid's offense work.  Jeff Garcia made it work.  But then McNabb saw in Jeff Garcia a QB that was what he wasn't, a QB that exceeded expectations and threw an accurate pass so receivers were able to get yards after the catch.   So McNabb helped orchestrate Garcia out of town, so that it was known McNabb was clearly number 1 QB and thus avoiding any type of QB contraversy.

And the McNabb camp was always out there to explain why McNabb didn't play well.  He didn't have weapons, he didn't have time to throw, his protection broke down, players were injured, but for 10 years, McNabb never placed the blame on himself.  He finally did that this year.  But it was too late to change his reputation in the City of Philadelphia.   The only time McNabb was fully protected was when the national media was protecting him in explaining, yet again, why the Eagles didn't win.   The fans were done, they heard it all already.  It was time to move on.  I think Kevin Kolb is going to be a very good NFL QB and Kevin will also admit to the fans and the media when he sucked up the joint.  He's a stand up guy and the present Eagle receivers are anxious to catch some balls from him this 2010 season.

I saythe over/under on number of Redskin losses is 4.  As in after the 4th Redskins loss this year, you'll hear in Washington that McNabb has no weapons, he has no protection, blah, blah, blah.  Good luck Washington, you'll need it.  And thanks for the picks.   The Eagles won't be paying for trading McNabb, they will be succeeding all expectations this year and beyond.
