The city of Philadelphia never fully appreciated Donovan McNabb. I was there when Eagles fans booed him at the draft. They've criticized everything from McNabb's throwing to his touchdown celebrations. In my 20-plus years of covering the NFL few superstars have been as under-appreciated by its fan base -- in any sport -- as McNabb has been by Eagles fans.

Now, the same could be said for the Eagles organization itself. Andy Reid was supposedly a McNabb proponent. Well, with friends like these...

The Eagles will pay for this ridiculously arrogant trade. They'll pay dearly. McNabb has three to five years left in that 33-year-old body. (He takes beter care of himself than Brett Favre does.) He'll play the Eagles twice a year and he'll crush them. At least, I hope he does. I hope McNabb throws for 400 yards a game when he plays Philadelphia. I hope he eats a cheesesteak every time he scores, too.

Maybe he'll sing that Rocky theme song after a TD pass.

The Eagles think so lowly of McNabb they traded him within the division. They're going to pay for that arrogance.

Football is a business and the Eagles can do what they want but the way Philadelphia -- the team and its fans -- have treated McNabb has stunned even a hardened cynical hard ass like me.

He never got into trouble. He wasn't a jerk like Terrell Owens. He won four straight division titles, went to five conference title games and a Super Bowl. Those were his crimes.

So you got what you wanted, Philly fans. McNabb is gone. You can't blame him for every ill in the world any longer.

Good luck with Kevin KornKolb and Michael Vick.

You're going to to need it.

And when McNabb returns to a Super Bowl without you, Eagles fans, who will you blame then?

Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabb

What's disgusting is CBS allows these inappropriatae references and, im my opinion, encourages this writer to do things such as making a KKK reference.  What's rven more sickening is they choose to do nothing to reprimand him and his poor choices and decisions.  It's not like this is the first time he's written something blatantly wrong recently.  This is a prime example of what a poor organization CBSSports.com due to the fact that they continue to allow, feature and promote poor material like this one.

I "MUST add....After reading my word? My barbs are "NOT" aimed at "ALL" resident's of Philadelphia!!! But to those who know

I am speaking to some truths!! I even have in my family, and circle of friend's...And I also correct them when I feel the need!

But those who lack valid argument are usually the one's who sink to the "LOWEST" among us!!!

The Eagles fans didn't trade Mcnabb.  I've been saying this for years, the Eagles fans get killed in the media, but the Eagles FANS didn't draft Kevin Kolb, bench Mcnabb and they didn't trade Mcnabb.  How bout you just talk about the team and what happens on the field?  There was a poll on the Eagles website right after the trade and 57% of Eagles fans DIDN'T like the trade!  Get a life Freeman.  How do they let an ignorant, racist, reject like you write on here???

Yo Freeman--enjoy McNabb and his throws at recievers feets. Donovan had a good career here but clearly was on the downside. You seem to be bitter that "THE GREAT BLACK HOPE" didnt get the job done and got traded and replaced with a white quarterback. Face it, if he won a Super Bowl it wouldn't have happened. If you were a white reporter you would be fired for your racist remarks about Kolb. Keep dreamin about that Super Bowl for the Skins and/or McNabb.......

You need to be fired Freeman.  What you've written is blatant racism.  "Kevin KornKolb"...because nobody can connect the dots and see the KKK shot you just made.
Its cute that you think you're just so clever and that the readers will never read it the way you intended.  Well guess what, we did and you just made yourself look like a complete jackass.  I hope you get fired for what you have posted on this site.  Its disgusting.

Is McNabb really that good?  No team in the NFL was willing to give up a first round pick for him.  That is saying something.    McNabb has definite leadership qualities but his Qb skills are substandard.  As a loyal Eagle fan, it has been frustrating watching McNabb consistently overthrow open receivers or throw one bounce passes out in the flat.  He loves to throw dump off passes and deep passes over top of the secondary.  This is a sign of a quarterback who has difficulty completing the medium range 10-20 yard passes.  For a quarterback with 10 years experience in the league, he has never completed a fade pattern in the end zone while lining up inside the 10 yard line.  He didn't know that ties were a part of the game after playing in the league for nine years.  Why?  The most telling stat for me that indicates McNabb is only an average Qb in this league is that McNabb has never thrown for 4,000 yards in a season.  The Eagles are a pass heavy team which throws the ball close to 60% of the time and he has never thrown for 4,000 yards in a season.  There are 5-10 qb's each year to accomplish this and McNabb has never been one.  He is an underachiever of the highest magnitude.
I expect many people will point out how many games he won in his career, including his playoff victories.  My response to this is,  Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl with the Ravens a few years back.  No one considers him to be a hall of famer because the defense carried his teams to victory in the playoffs.  The Eagles consistently had great defenses under Jim Johnson in their playoff runs.  Not many points were needed from McNabb for his playoff wins and he came up small when more points were required.
Thanks for your tenure in Philly, Donovan.  It is time for you to move on.

I've always appreciated Donovan McNabb. Would've liked to see what he could've done with a better defense in 2010. The offense got way better. Take the earlier 2000's defenses (maybe even the 2008 defense) with the offense of last season and perhaps they win a Super Bowl. To have won 11 games last season with virtually offense alone, every game in 2009 seemed to hinge on a defensive stop and when a team scores 30 ppg, that's unacceptable. To lose the starting center and replace him with a guy that had trouble getting the snap beyond the crack of his @55, well of course you'll lose the last 2 games 58-14, 34-14 is an improvement over 24-0, they lost by 20 points instead of 24 and they scored offensively.

One thing to say, with the teams McNabb had he should have had the success he had in Philly. However, he choked in the biggest game on the biggest stage.  Enough said.  With the talent they had around him its a joke he never won a superbowl and lost so many championship games.  Your putting a guy over for almost winning a championship.  If your not first your last, so says ricky bobby.
