Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabb

The city of Philadelphia never fully appreciated Donovan McNabb. I was there when Eagles fans booed him at the draft. They've criticized everything from McNabb's throwing to his touchdown celebrations. In my 20-plus years of covering the NFL few superstars have been as under-appreciated by its fan base -- in any sport -- as McNabb has been by Eagles fans.

Now, the same could be said for the Eagles organization itself. Andy Reid was supposedly a McNabb proponent. Well, with friends like these...

The Eagles will pay for this ridiculously arrogant trade. They'll pay dearly. McNabb has three to five years left in that 33-year-old body. (He takes beter care of himself than Brett Favre does.) He'll play the Eagles twice a year and he'll crush them. At least, I hope he does. I hope McNabb throws for 400 yards a game when he plays Philadelphia. I hope he eats a cheesesteak every time he scores, too.

Maybe he'll sing that Rocky theme song after a TD pass.

The Eagles think so lowly of McNabb they traded him within the division. They're going to pay for that arrogance.

Football is a business and the Eagles can do what they want but the way Philadelphia -- the team and its fans -- have treated McNabb has stunned even a hardened cynical hard ass like me.

He never got into trouble. He wasn't a jerk like Terrell Owens. He won four straight division titles, went to five conference title games and a Super Bowl. Those were his crimes.

So you got what you wanted, Philly fans. McNabb is gone. You can't blame him for every ill in the world any longer.

Good luck with Kevin KornKolb and Michael Vick.

You're going to to need it.

And when McNabb returns to a Super Bowl without you, Eagles fans, who will you blame then?

Disloyal Eagles will pay for trading McNabb

I totally agree with love utley, espn's SAL Palantonio, a real reporter just said that in fact the Eagles turned down a better offer from Oakland to make Mcnabb happier, sounds like loyalty to me

Finally an article of Freeman's I actually agree with.  I will no longer root for the Eagles.  They made a huge mistake.  then they made that mistake worse by trading him in side the division.  That is an absolutely insane idea to do something like that.  Mark my words, McNabb will torch the Eagles every time he plays them.  Hail to the Redskins!!!

Respect My A$$

As an Eagles fan I am sad to see McNabb go even though I do agree with this move. And for those of you who think all Philly fans hate McNabb...your wrong. The fans appreciate what he's done here in Philly, but many of them (including me) are ready for the Kevin Kolb Experiment. But I guarantee that next year when the Skins come to won't hear any boos like you did on the day he was drafted...but rather 60,000 people cheering Donovan as a sign of respect.

Mr. Freeman, I believe you owe Kevin Kolb an apology.  Show me where he has ever said or done anything in a racist manner to deserve being labeled as KKK.  Being a Syracuse alum from the time McNabb played at SU (I loved watching him on the football field and cheered for him to get into basketball games) I actually agree with you that the trade of #5 is a foolish one.  But to throw around accusations that Kevin Kolb is a racist and a member of the Klu Klux Klan goes well beyond legitimate sports commentary.  I'd be happy to read your analysis of Kolb's inexperience, his relative lack of arm strength or his relative lack of mobility vs. McNabb.  But instead you label Kolb as a member of one of the most reviled groups in the world.  Coming from a respected sports journalist on one of the biggest sports sites on the internet, that's the kind of accusation that sticks, no matter what Mr. Kolb might do to try and refute it.

I cant believe that the greatest QB in franchise history has been treated the way he has been the past few years. All he did was set all the major records in franchise history. All Eagles fans want to blame him for everything. Why dont they take a look at the real problem, Andy Reid... Is it McNabbs fault that the Eagles havent had a LB that could cover the TE the past 11 years? Is it McNabbs fault that the Eagles couldnt get pressure from their front 4 and had to blitz 70% of the time? Was it McNabbs fault that the franchise hasnt gotten a DE to compliment Trent Cole? Wake Up Philly fans, the problem isnt McNabb, it's REID... to all the McNabb haters that are Eagles fans out there. Why are you so mad he was traded to the Redskins?? If he is as bad and horrible as you all say he is, you should be happy we are gonna play him twice a year

Let's realize that the Philly fans did not consumate this trade, it was Mcnabb's partner Andy Reid. As an Eagles fan I appreciated what McNabb did over his career. At times he was frustrating to watch as he threw balls at the feet of open receivers or his reluctance to run and utilize his God given speed in fear of being labeled a running QB. This being said, to my dismay, Andy Reid has been extremely successful of moving players before the major dropoff in talent occurs. Kolb is the future and if the Eagles weren't going to sign McNabb past this year then they received some draft picks for him. The only thing that they did was trade McNabb within their division for 2 games this season. The Skins would've had a free shot to sign McNabb after this year as a free agent. McNabb performed well especially w/o any receivers for most of his time in Philly. A year with TO and he was a stud!!! Recently DeSean Jackson helped to elevate #5's stats. He will be hard to replace but not impossible. Andy Reid also honored McNabb's wishes of sending him to Washington. Another knock on Mcnabb was his boo boo kitty reactions when he didn't get his way. He needs to man up a bit and realize that not every organization is going to treat you with kid gloves .

So what do you want?  You want the Eagles to hold on to this guy until he's 40?  45?  Grow up.  Football is a young mans game and Kolb is younger.  Grow up, seriously.
