Mayweather dominates...as expected

Posted on: May 2, 2010 12:28 am

Shane Mosley got two lucky punches in the second round of his fight on Saturday night against Floyd Mayweather. Then, as he often does, Mayweather decided that was enough.

After that, Mayweather took Mosley to school. It was one of those advanced classes, too. It was the kind of schooling that demonstrates why Mayweather is the best, most techincal and intelligent fighter in any of the fighting sports today.

Nothing Mayweather does in the ring is sexy. There are few spectacular knockouts but his boxing skills are superior to anyone else's on the planet. That was apparent against Mosley.

After those two hard rights landed by Mosley the smarter Mayweather dominated with a series of piercing rights, surgical hooks and expertly utilized a dazzling speed advantage. Mayweather, incredibly, was in the best shape I've ever seen him and that's saying something.

Mayweather reached into Mosley's chest and slowly removed his heart round by round.

This fight wasn't close. It wasn't. It was never going to be and anyone who thought Mosley would win doesn't know boxing.

I scored the fight 118-110. That's being generous. Mayweather won 10 rounds in a row.

It's time for the media and boxing fans to stop de-valuing Mayweather's historical importance and ranking because they don't like him personally and realize this is one of the greatest fighters in a generation.

Now comes the important stuff after this sham of a fight has concluded. What happens next? The answer will impact the future of boxing.

And if that answer isn't Mayweather fighting Manny Pacquiao then boxing will continue to be a joke.

If that fight does happen Mayweather will destroy Pacquiao, too, because there's no one out there on Mayweather's level right now. No one.

This fight should've never happened but it did and Mayweather dominated.

Now, what's next, boxing? Do the right thing. Let's get Mayweather and Pacquiao in the ring.

Do what the fans want.

For once.

Love the Mayweather Haters....

Every fight or proposed upcoming fight all the Mayweather haters come out and take their shots at Mayweather...  And every fight he makes all of you eat your words because he Wins.... He was going to lose to De La Hoya(WRONG), he couldn't Hatton(WRONG), after the layoff Marquez would be too much for him(WRONG) and the latest was Mosely had speed/power that Mayweather couldn't handle(WRONG ONCE AGAIN)....
OK, maybe you dont' like him personally but to deny his talent is just idiotic...   He is one of the best Boxers ever to get in the ring...  41-0 and continuing to dominate....

He plays all ou haters like fools... he gets on TV, acts a fool so you will all hate him more.... And more people will get the fight hoping to see him lose.... But since he gets a cut of the TV$$, he makes himself more money.... Keep going Money Mayweather.... Keep going...

I am not sure what fight people were watching last night but Moseley outside of two punches was complately outclassed in this fight. Mayweather is a pure fighter who is timely and abused Moseley. Let me preface this by saying I think Mayweather is a tool. He will probably fight Pacquiao but he is not stupid he is holding out so that he can get 100 million for the fight. Look at how much he made last night to fight a washed up stiff, which you can make an argument that he threw the fight( 2 good punches disappears for rest of fight, makes a nice collection of cash and probably promoted the nightclub he was partying at after the fight. Moseley has no chance at another pay day like that) Boxing still has some juice at times but is a shadow of the sport it used to be. It may have a chance if they get rid of all this wbo wba garbage and unify and have legitimate rankings but until then give me a mma fight where for my money I get guys putting thir heart on the line and about 6 fights worth, a undercard of tijuana cab drivers, and a hope of a meaningful main event which last night was not.

I am not a Mayweather fan but I have to side with everyone saying that Pacquiao should just take the test. By not taking the tests it casts a cloud over Pacquiao's claim that he has never taken PED's. The amount of blood that would be taken is not nearly enough to weaken him for the fight. As for everybody saying Mosley is old and was not tough competition, he was the third ranked pound for pound fighter in the world. I don't how Floyd's competition could have been any better unless he fought Pacquiao.

yes mayweather is a very good fighter, however he cannot lay claim to being the best until he stands up and fights pacquiao. until then, he is just another coward!!!

I agree but it works both ways, Pacquiao has never fought anyone near Mayweathers class.  Mayweather is probably the best defensive fighter I've ever seen and I would love to see how he and Manny would matchup it, but I think the chances of Manny knocking Floyd out are lower than the chances of Floyd outscoring Manny and winning a decision.  And just because you use the word destroy it doesn't mean with power, it could also mean with speed, defense and general skills.

I agree with your speed and power assessment of Pac man but ability?  Pac is one of the most technically flawed of the "great fighters" since Roy Jones.  Pac has zero defense.  Thats why his hands are always going.  He got disected by JMM and even let the slow as molasses Cotto and Clottey get to him.  Pacman cannot make adjustments in the ring and relies too much on Roach to be the fighter he is today.  At some point a fighter needs to be able to adapt in the ring and not in the corner and Pac just cant do that yet.
