Celtics in control

BOSTON -- The Celtics are winning because they're a team. The Lakers are on their way to losing this series because it's Kobe Bryant versus the world.

Boston beat Los Angeles 92-86 in Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead as the Celtics again showed that simple math does indeed work. Five beats one every time.

Bryant was the only consistent Lakers threat and despite a heartfelt and brilliant effort from him no other Laker -- including Phil Jackson -- showed Bryant's smarts and resolve.

In fact, it would be nice if the old Zen Master earned his paycheck.

This is now the Celtics' series to lose. The series may not be over but the Lakers have yet to show they can beat this Boston team two straight times. SuperKobe or not the chances of that happening against a Boston team that has figured out the Lakers are slim.

No, it's not over but that noise you hear in the background is champagne chilling in the Boston locker room.

Bryant scored 38 points. The other four Lakers starters had 34 points combined.

That's how a team loses a series.

Kobe goes off, scoring 23 consecutive points....and the Laker deficit grows from 1 to 12. Lakers win Game 6, Celtics win Game 7. Time for that 18th championship banner!

Such a stupid statement from a know nothing fan. If Stern wanted 7 game series how come The Celts beat Cleveland and Orlando in six. Lakers finished Phoenix in six as well and everal series were either sweeps or over early. We;ve seen numerous recent finals that didn't go the distance as well. This one might go the distance but it won't be because of any influence. You conspiracy people sound like idiots. Know what the hell you're talking about before you post something.

Okay, so Ko-me "went off". But while he was draining threes he was draining the heart out of his team.  Four assists, five fouls (in lieu of actual defense) and an insurmountable lead while Kobe was "going off". Can't you for one minute take your tongue out of that orifice and acknowledge that greatness isn't defined by ego-driven showmanship? In the game of basketball, true heart is found in the word team.

have a nice big piece of humble pie while you were writing this evening?
both you and doyel are unreal.
perhaps some training on the fundamentals of offense, defense and coaching would help?
assuming from the beginning that the lakers would have the same type of offensive success w/ the celtics that they had in the western playoffs showed your ignorance of the game.  a good many of us had a very different opinion.

Sorry Mike.  Stern won't let it happen, he will have the refs take the Celtics out of game 6 by the 1st quarter and Perkins will get his technical to finish him for Game 7.  Stern will keep Game 7 interesting until after halftime and then gift wrap it to the Lakers.  That's how homecourt in the NBA works.   Celtics got 1 win in LA, LA got 1 win in Boston to attempt to keep it honest.  Stern wanted ratings at least for 6 games, he's got it and now HE GIVES the title to LA......That's what I hate about the NBA, worst sport for home-cooking and too many crooked refs.

Mike, you did say that if Kobe goes off the Celtic's have no chance.  No biggie for me but you were wrong.  Anywho......where the hell did Gasol go?  Looks like Grarnett has found his stroke.  I think the Laker's need to get more production from there bigs, otherwise this series is going to be very tough to win.  Play of the game was Tony Allen's monster block on Gasol, got him with the left and the blocked with him the right.   But goddam Kobe is scary friggen good.  Fade away 3's, are u kidding me??????

Freeman, you really should stick to what you're good at.  I think women's figure skating is missing a reporter, and they're saving you a seat.  You're unbelieveable.  I've NEVER seen a bandwagon sportswriter, but man, YOU fit that bill.

Does this sound familiar?
The explosion is coming. It's only a matter of time. is going to form a mushroom cloud, leaving the Celtics in shambles. You know it. The know it. Bryant knows it. This junk came out of you yesterday.  Before that, it was Bynum.  Before that it was Gasol.  Do us a favor and go back to where you came from.  Was that artistic dance?  Synchronized swimming?  Bowling play-by-play?  Whatever...go there.
