Draft boycott

The NFL players are finding an interesting ally in their fight against the owners: college players.

Two agents confirmed to CBSSports.com that the former union has asked top prospects not to attend the April draft. One agent who represents a potential top 25 pick said in an interview that it's possible few, if any, of the top picks will go to the draft.

"There is momentum building on this," said the agent. "If my client is asked, he won't attend."

Wow.

When Roger Goodell announces the picks at the draft it's possible the first ten to 20 draftees will boycott the event, an agent said. An NFLPA source explained it's possible the entire first round might be boycotted as other players decide to join the boycott.

Wow.

College players, one agent explained, seem to be onboard with the decision though I find it difficult to believe at least a few of them won't be upset about losing the opportunity to shine on such a big day. Don't be surprised if a few top prospects show up anyway.

But, so far at least, and according to agents, college players are okay with this development.

The message the former union is sending is crystal clear. They're going to hurt the NFL during one of its most highly watched and money-making events of the season.

Not having top prospects would effectively push the draft back in time to a more primordial event. A boycott wouldn't kill the draft but it would seriously injure it.

So the labor situation gets more interesting by the minute.

Draft boycott

Your response, and the response of others in favor of owners and dismissive of players is typical of the mentality of an uneducated person.  You have bought the American package of accepting the measly scraps the wealthy of this country allow to fall on your plate, and spend your time discrediting other "have nothings" so that you'll feel better about your status in life.  In older times, you and your mentality would have been the willing servants and paid slaves of the wealthy, happy that you have a half-belly full and would be allowed to take a bath once a month.

In other words, you have a puppy dog mentality and would do anything a rich person asked you to do, and feel happy that the rich person even acknowledged you.  Yet, in your hypocrisy, you still watch NFL games and cheer for the "greedy athletes" so long as they keep their mouths shut just like the bought person that you are.

Join the tea party, this bunch of redneck racists is waiting for you to add your racist cheer to their madness!

Draft boycott

Hey Lanceito44, the reason they haven't asked for anything more than the existing CBA, is because they get 60% of the profits.  You need to get your facts straight also.  The players know they have to give some back; the question is how much of it to give back.  The owners don't have to open up their books for anyone.  They are OWNERS.  They take all the responsibility.  They pay all the staff and employees as well.  They offered more guarantees, and more security for existing and former players aw well.  Are the owners completely right in all this?  NO, because they want more money as well, but in the end, it's not a damn partnership and unless you go bankrupt, you don't have to tell anyone what you make.  Why should one owner open up his book, and show another one what they make?  Would you show anyone?  Would you even show your own mother what and how you manage your money, let alone a stranger?  This is a bunch of BS.   Also, the Broncos offered to open up their books willfully, and the union said no.  They didn't want to see Denver’s books unless they saw everyone else's.  How about the players put up their own money to buy into every team and agree to pay the staff as well, then they would be partners.  Unfortunately, football is a violent sport, and anyone can get hurt at any given time, so having all the necessary things in place incase that happens should be agreed upon, but that being said, don't do it if you know what can happen.
The union is a joke.  They are gutless, and they decertified because they didn't get their way.  Another example of how unions destroy something good.  Unfortunately, once upon a time unions were needed to not only protect people, but also build this country to where it has gotten, only to see them turn into legalized mobsters, and a bunch of bullies.  It's good to see them put in their place from time to time, and I hope these players get what they deserve as well.  They should all be kicked out on the street, and maybe then they'll think about the guy who struggles everyday to make sure his family is taken care of.  Oh, by the way, that same guy is the guy who also watches the games, pays for the tickets, and supports the advertiser as well.  He's the person who gets screwed the most in the end.

We need more money! they make more in one year than most americans will make in a lifetime........maybe if someone cut off antonio cromarties nuts he wouldnt have to pay 6 different women child support, that ghetto trash.  these players are a bunch of greedy genetically enhanced idiots who would be working at mcdonalds (if anywhere) if they werent born with superhuman genetics.  Just disgusting........Most of these owner have worked their a$$e$ off to have the money they have so good for them.  they werent just born fast and big.......NFLPA can suck on my

That's the post of the day !!! Awesome post man, 5 stars for you !!!!!   People think multi millionaire and billionaire owners don't work.  They think they are stupid... just inherited everything.  They think these owners don't do anything just because they have employees....  I know somebody that makes 10's of millions in their business overseas.. they have tons of employees... but they work harder then anybody on these boards works...  as an owner of a big business you don't just sit back and get paychecks in the mail.... these owners have brains... they are brilliant people for the most part...  most of these NFL players don't even speak proper english for God sakes..... tattoos all over, some gang related..... slang used every other word.....  illiterate buffoons some of them are... not one owner is illiterate or speaks like they do.....  these owners took RISKS getting where they are today.... what risk did the players take?  I know somebody else making millions as well... she and her husband quit jobs totalling about 250 thousand dollars per year ..... left it all behind... spent every nickel of their savings... mortgaged their home.... drove shit cars..... all of that in the hopes they succeed.......  and they succeeded.. good for them.....

Draft boycott

Who cares you want to make impact have the fans boycott the draft. that would make an impact, all they do is walk across a stage take a picture with goodell. It is thier mommnet they are missing. Just another example of the selfisheness of the NFLPA

I've said it 100 times and I'll keep on saying it.. CANCEL THE NFL DRAFT ...... CANCEL THE DRAFT.... don't postpone it,,,, CANCEL THE DRAFT...
Tell the players who thought they were going to be drafted too bad so sad, you have to wait another year now.   Now you wait and watch other NCAA football players pass you on the board...   you were a top 10 pick this year?  Maybe not next year biiiitch !!!!!   Even with an NFL rookie cap coming in it'll matter big time where somebody is drafted... it'll matter more now then ever before.   A few hundred thousand dollars meant nothing to these kids being drafted without a cap, the money was so ridiculous they were filthy rich before they played a game anyway.   Now it will matter..... CANCEL THE DRAFT....
There is no union anymore.. they can't demand anything.  The NFL has every right to cancel the NFL draft if they choose to...... and they should.

These guys arent as replaceable as YOU are. They generate BILLIONS of dollars a year. You dont. BIG difference.

Sure they're replaceable... small minded and narrow minded people don't see it, but these players can be replaced overnight.  First of all, extend the NFL draft as many rounds as it takes to draft as many players as it takes to fill the team rosters.   Then sign some as free agents or walk ons and try them out as well in training camp.   As this happens, you'll see a lot of current NFL players cross the picket line to play football....   Next year replace the players that weren't good enough with another NFL draft,,, not as many rounds as the first but a few more then now.... and watch some more players cross the picket line the 2nd year... actually they would cross the line in record numbers ......
You worried about the quality of the game??? Don't worry son.... it's only a matter of time... give it 5 years you won't notice the difference in quality.  An NFL player is only in his prime for about 5 years anyway.......  don't kid yourself..... if players had that much of an upper hand, they could ask for 70 percent of NFL revenues and get it.... but they don't.   The players can't afford to start their own league....  heck, these millionaire losers can't afford to put 10 percent of their salaries away to take care of their own post retirement health care.....   They would beg the NFL for their jobs back

what a bunch of little biches.......the players allready get paid more than they should for talents they are born with and didnt really have to work for.....when a mediocre kicker gets paid more than a world famous heart surgeon something is really wrong......Now they are trying to take something away from these college kids whos dream it probably was to walk to the podium and shak the commisioners hand, chicken $hit.  of course these kids will listen because they dont want to be on players bad sides when they come into the league.  I am one of the biggest football fans in the world but I say screw the players.  Owners should work together and start a new league full of replacement players who would probably have never made the NFL and will work (or play a game) for a reasonable price.  I would definately watch it.

Draft boycott

This is the dumbest argument.  We're talking about kids mostly from middle to lower class backgrounds who are maybe in their early 20's at most and you all are whining about how greedy they are????  And they're such manipulative business people to put your fall Sunday entertainment at risk????  Good grief.  That's got to be one of the dumbest damn things I've ever heard.  Most of you fans are so easily manipulated and duped.  I'm certain that the owners will continue laughing all the way to the bank for years to come.  Many of you here should be ashamed of being so damned stupid but you're too dumb to realize it.

Draft boycott

Chiefs Tim... You might want to get your facts straight... The Players haven't asked for anything more than the existing CBA... The Owners have cried poverty and asked for more off the top.. Its hard for the Owners to cry poverty if EVERY franchise was profitable..

YOU get YOUR facts straight fella....  the owners have to open their books to prove they need concessions from the union but if 5 or 10 years from now owners open their books and prove they are losing money, the players won't agree to a paycut..... how fair is that ????  Players get raises during good times and keep exactly what they have during bad times... they NEVER LOSE ANYTHING.... why is that?????????   Somebody... PLEASE SOMEBODY ANSWER THAT FOR ME.... tell me why the owners CAN LOSE but the players CAN'T LOSE......   a normal business doesn't run that way.  If an owner makes less money then he's used to making, he cuts expenses.  Lays off employees, whatever......  in the sports business you can't do that.... you need x amount of players and there are fixed expenses they can't do a thing about.....
