On Cam Newton: evaluating smiles now?

Posted on: March 29, 2011 11:52 am

The nastiest, most unfair and borderline silliest thing ever written about a draft prospect appeared recently in Pro Football Weekly . When I say ever written, I mean, ever written.

PFW's Nolan Nawrocki wrote this about quarterback Cam Newton: "Very disingenuous — has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted and has a selfish, me-first makeup.  Always knows where the cameras are and plays to them.  Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law — does not command respect from teammates and will always struggle to win a locker room . . . Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness — is not punctual, seeks shortcuts and sets a bad example.  Immature and has had issues with authority.  Not dependable.”

So that's how we're evaluating prospects now? On how they smile ?

On how if they know where the cameras are? What does that even mean?

I've never seen anything like this written in the media about a draft prospect. Never. And I've been covering the NFL for 20 years.

It's disgraceful. Really, it is.

Now, in the draft, we have the smile meter.

We measuring pouts next?

On Cam Newton: evaluating smiles now?

Bwahahahahahahahahahaha......
For all of you idiots and closet cases, Cam has obliterated the NFL passing record book......  Take that fake smile and kiss his @$$......

First player in history to pass over 400 yards in his first two games.....
Fastest to pass for over 1,000 yards....
30 TDs......  Passing and Rushing.......

Oh he's a Jamarcus Russell all over again....  The only things they have in common are their skin colors, played in the SEC, and both #1 picks, but you jackasses never compared him to another #1 pick from the SEC, Peyton "My Neck" Manning, now did you????  Take that lack of leadership and can't win over a locker room in your mouth.....

Jackholes.....

Great post Swiftwings88.  That sums up Newton.  It'll be another sad day the second time they vacate the Heisman Trophy.

If I am an owner about to lay out MILLIONS in cash to somebody you are darn right.   I would want EVERYTHING evaluated, especially the motives and metal state of the potential player.  As far as evaluating the smile....you did read everything after that I hope Freeman...
$cam will be an NFL bust. He could be a pretty good special teams guy though

The Verdict:
Nawrocki guilty in the first degree of  "HATERISM".

He attacks the young mans appearance, based solely on his own opinion; the young mans character as a leader in the locker room and in society; and he attacks Cam Newtons commitment to football.

Facts about accountability, discipline, dependability, and issues on and off the field could very well give clue to future concerns.
I totally agree with that. One word owners will definitely attribute a great deal of that to is "immaturity".

Nawrocki talks about him commanding respect from teammates. What? I've never been the Auburn lockerroom with Cam and his teammates and seen the type of interactions they had but I have been in a lockerroom. When we were winning games because
our qb made great plays week in and week out, we adored the guy, praised him even, loved the hell out of him......... get the picture.
When we had a qb who throw more interceptions than touchdowns, never gave credit to any of the other units on the teams, and always cost us the game--- never ever winning a game..... we wanted his ass off the team; to put it nicely, we had no respect for the man.
Cam, I'm sorry Narwocki, was well respected the lockerroom. You and all your supporters are "haters".

Have you ever heard of "SWAG"? Yeap, Cam's got alot of that. Some call it ego, think he's the shit, selfish, arrogant, lights, camera, action. Can't be no punk in the NFL, especially not as qb.
Too much pride, however will lead to any mans destruction. Lets give him a chance.

In the mean, I hope Cam goes to Carolina, or one of the weaker teams in NFL and turns them into playoff contenders.
The guys a winning! Don't hate, congratulate!

Freeman, do you actually get paid to write this?  You sound like a complete moron with your interpretation of the quote in your little article.  Your reading comprehension skills leave much to be desired.  You can agree or disagree with Nawrocki's assessment, but at least understand what he is saying.  You are so quick to stand up for the black quarterback that you pull out one phrase and focus all of your attention on 4 words.  Nawrocki is painting an overall picture of Cam's character.  You think this is disgraceful?  So when Randy Moss was written up for character issues (regardless of his talent), did that turn out to be true?  If a team is going to invest millions, they need to know about character issues too.
