The nastiest, most unfair and borderline silliest thing ever written about a draft prospect appeared recently in Pro Football Weekly . When I say ever written, I mean, ever written.
PFW's Nolan Nawrocki wrote this about quarterback Cam Newton: "Very disingenuous — has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted and has a selfish, me-first makeup. Always knows where the cameras are and plays to them. Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law — does not command respect from teammates and will always struggle to win a locker room . . . Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness — is not punctual, seeks shortcuts and sets a bad example. Immature and has had issues with authority. Not dependable.”
So that's how we're evaluating prospects now? On how they smile ?
On how if they know where the cameras are? What does that even mean?
I've never seen anything like this written in the media about a draft prospect. Never. And I've been covering the NFL for 20 years.
It's disgraceful. Really, it is.
Now, in the draft, we have the smile meter.
We measuring pouts next?

As far as evaluating the smile....you did read everything after that I hope Freeman... $cam will be an NFL bust. He could be a pretty good special teams guy though |

On Cam Newton: evaluating smiles now?Freeman, do you actually get paid to write this? You sound like a complete moron with your interpretation of the quote in your little article. Your reading comprehension skills leave much to be desired. You can agree or disagree with Nawrocki's assessment, but at least understand what he is saying. You are so quick to stand up for the black quarterback that you pull out one phrase and focus all of your attention on 4 words. Nawrocki is painting an overall picture of Cam's character. You think this is disgraceful? So when Randy Moss was written up for character issues (regardless of his talent), did that turn out to be true? If a team is going to invest millions, they need to know about character issues too.
