Could draftees wear NFLPA hats on stage?

The following scene could happen at the NFL draft.

Team selects player. Player at the draft is told he's been picked by, say, the New York Giants. Player is backstage with mother, father, sister and Aunt Joan. Everyone hugs. Someone cries. Someone always cries. Player walks out to shake hands with commissioner Roger Goodell.

But instead of sticking to tradition of wearing cap of team that just selected the player, maybe the draftee instead wears an NFLPA cap as a show of support for the former union while on stage with the commissioner. Such a maneuver would be a direct thumb in the eye of Goodell, if it happened.

This is all hypothetical but I wouldn't be shocked if we saw this. Wouldn't be shocked at all.

There could be other potential statements. I'm getting the feeling that the trade association isn't going to let the draft slip by without some sort of public show of unity and I'm getting the feeling the NFL will try to stop any such show.

Which is why this draft could be so interesting to watch.

Could draftees wear NFLPA hats on stage?

This Freeman guy is ridiculous.  Every day it's a new controversial story where he sites one or two "unnamed sources" and then basically makes something up.  These stories never appear on any other sports site, so apparently Freeman has a bunch of sources that nobody can get access to?  Give me a break, get rid of this clown.

Not sure if this could help Mr. Freeman with his "reporting" or if maybe CBS would take note of those of us who expect more from them before converting to the WorldWide Leader of Sports.

So just to be clear, Freeman lists no source, no indication that this is actually on anyone's mind (other than his own), and no evidence that this might actually happen.

He just pulled this whole idea out of his butt, and decided it was worth plopping onto the CBS web site.

Never mind that the hat and jersey a player puts on is handed to them by team personnel right as they're walking on stage, and I'm sure the players wouldn't exactly be allowed to bring an "NFLPA" hat through the door to an NFL-sponsored event (and if they smuggled it in, the NFL-sponsored TV station simply wouldn't put them on camera anyway).

You guys are all idiots. The rookies are going to do what they want. The NFLPA is not denying them access to the stage like abunch of beefed up security guards, and no one is going to force them to join the NFLPA. Plus there isn't even a union to represent them. These guys will get there money eventually so stop feeling sorry for any of them!

No, they will all be wearing the hats of their sponsors like Nike, Rebook, Under Armor, Adidas.
The NFLPA does not care about its former players or its current ones. If they did then it would have done more to help those former players who are suffering from health problems and the current ones who need better representation. As far as I can tell all the NFL union reps care about is showboating and grandstanding. Things have gone downhill for the union after Gene Upshaw left.

If I were a rookie and got drafted by an NFL team, I would not give two poops about anyone else but myself and my family on that day. It is the day the players have been waiting for their entire lives, and it will never happen again. All the members of their families that may also have sacrificed to send them to the best camps and buy the best equipment, training, driving to games, etc etc. Every single member of NFLPA got their day to wear the hat, show the jersey, etc. It is incredibly selfish of those players to deny that to these young men or try to guilt them out of it. or dny the fans the chance to actually like the guy their team drafted. For that day they should all support their new brothers, congratulate them and welcome them onto their team. The next week if they want to recruit them even though they have never drawn a pay check, then go ahead, but give these guys their one time to go onstage and be happy, or be introduced to their fans and local media in their new adopted city. These guys likely will be under the first rookie salary cap so they won't even get to have the excitement of negotiations etc., they will be slotted and paid in that slot. Give them this day.

Hey Jetsfan: If you would read my post carefully you will see that I stated that there is indeed no LABOR UNION. The NFLPA is no longer represented as or by the UNION. The players are basically taking there chances in court under the desertification right which they will enivitably lose in. The NFLPA doesn't mean s*** anymore once again they are back to being just abunch of whinney spoiled brats with little man sydrome. Do you really think the court system is going to have sympathy on these idiots??

Guess this will the post of the day where we define the difference in decertification and disbanning. Decertification simply meanst he NFLPA does not represent the players in collective bargaining. The NFLPA DOES EXIST. But according to you guys, the players will receive checks tomorrow stating they are from the NFLPA so I guess every bank is going to write void in big red letters because this group doesn't exist.

As of the desertification there is no current labor union. These whinny babies need to just get over it, they had there chance to make a deal and now the courts will determine their fates. The owners are basically just sitting back and laughing at the players failed attempts at unifying knowing in the end they will get the most out of whatever deal is made in the end. Which IMO is how it should be. They are the OWNERS of the team, they have earned the right to pay you more or less. Im so tired of these pre-maddonas we call professional athletes. They need to conduct themselves better and then maybe they will be taken seriously by their bosses and the fans!
