The Daily Shoutout

Once again quarterback Donovan McNabb's blackness is under attack from a misguided fool.

The various jabs at McNabb remain some of the more puzzling things I've witnessed in several decades of covering sports. By all accounts, McNabb is a good family man. He's never been arrested. He isn't a jerk. There's no continent-sized ego. No Betty Ford visits. Nothing. Just a good football player and decent guy. McNabb has been a role model for any community but especially an African-American community in dire need of father figures. In dire need of fathers, period.

So what does McNabb receive in return? He's called a Tom by members of the NAACP and race baiters like Rush Limbaugh say the media protects him because he's black. In other words, McNabb can't win. The latest to bash McNabb is Bernard Hopkins who said McNabb isn't black enough.

Next up for Hopkins: these aren't black enough either.

Can't believe this type of discussion is still happening in the 21st century. Thought we were beyond the quarterblack days.

Hopkins is irrelevant. He's a horse and buggy in a Prius world and he's using McNabb to draw eyeballs to his meaningless fight. Unfortunately the tactic might succeed as people Google washed up boxer and Pro Bowl quarterback.

So enjoy your moment, Bernard. You climbed on the back of a solid guy by challenging his ethnicity. Nice work.

See all of you on Friday.

The Daily Shoutout

List #1 - Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, Ben Wallace, Michael Vick, Michael Irvin, Lebron James, Jalen Rose, Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal

List #2 - Joe Frazier, Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Kobe Bryant, Grant Hill, Sugar Ray Leonard, Henry Aaron, Walter Payton, Shaquille O'Neal, O.J. Simpson, Magic Johnson.

i get the point your trying to make, but im just not so sure you put all the right guys on the right lists??  how does kobe bryant and shaq, 2 of the biggest "s**t talkers" in all of sports, or oj simpson who murdered 2 people and robbed memorabilia dealers, get put on the same list as david robinson and hank aaron??  or how does lebron, a guy who takes care of his kids and family, been with the same girl for years, get put on the same list as a rapist like mike tyson, or a draft dodger like muhammed ali??  so please let me fix these lists:

List #1- people considered "black enough"

muhammed ali- dodged the vietnam war draft
mike tyson- raped his wife
michael jordan- obsessive gambler
allen iverson- tats, tats, then more tats
jim brown- beat his wife and made terrorist threats
ben wallace- with an afro like that how can you not be black enough?
michael vick- killed dogs and financed a dog fighting operation
michael irvin- has had more white powder up his nose than pablo escobar and the pillsbury doughboy COMBINED!!
jalen rose- drunk driver and one that seems gifted in pointing out uncle toms
ron artest- beat up a short fat white guy in detroit for throwing his drink at him
oj simpson- killed his wife and her BF, got away with it, then was dumb enough to get locked up for life for stealing
kobe bryant- raped a white girl in colorado then bought his wife a fat rock that made her forget all about it, right after he paidoff the white girl to shut her mouth
shaq- one of the best s**t talkers the game of basketball has ever seen, but considering he busts (or use to) pedophiles in miami, i say talk all the s**t you want, even if you are washed up

List 2- not black enough

joe frazier- cuz he let ali talk to him like he was a little b***h, rather than playing ali's game with the press, he let his fist do the talking
tim duncan- cuz he doesnt try to break the damn goal everytime he slam dunks, and keeps his mouth shut
david robinson- cuz he fought in the white man's military
grant hill- cuz he played at duke
sugar ray leonard- not real sure why he isnt black enough, cuz no white guy could ever move as gracefully as he did in the ring
hammering hank- cuz he let a bunch of white people threaten his life while he was chasing babe ruths record, and he didnt bust any caps in their a$$e$, or call up the black panther party to rectify the situation
walter payton- clean criminal history although his skin was as black as the night sky
majic johnson- cuz he caught HIV from a black girl, instead of the typical fat white girls that real black people get down with

Let's face it, The Race card, The Minority card, The Religeous card, The me,me,me,me card are always played by an IDIOT as a last resort because he or she has screwed up so bad that they don't have the ability to admit they are wrong so they do a hatchet job on some unsuspecting soul whose only crime is having a good charactor !!! Why ? Because it takes all or most of the attention off of the current issue which normally is that they are a bunch of low lifes, losers, who would throw some one under the bus in a NewYork minute in order to save there own pathetic ass !!! It's not about race or color, it;s about character or lack of it !!!

People like Hopkins is exactly why people look at color with different approaches.  Wow, I mean how can you make a remark like that.  Wonder what he says about Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan.  Both were in hard working families, but they were in all honesty in the middle class, like McNabb.  It is very sad to see someone go after his race like that.

This article has nothing to do with journailism, it is 100% opinion based. Isn't the first rule of journalism to be unbiased? Even though I agree with his opinion, this is all it is.

Well, it's good to know that the far right and Bernard Hopkins both agree on what 'a real black man' is.

"Mike Freeman's journalism skills are weaker than circus lemonade."  Actually, Freeman's skills are well expressed and make sense.  I think you need to evaluate what journalism skills mean to you, markman0625.

Good article by Freeman.  Although he's past his prime, Hopkins is a great fighter.  However, The Executioner is wrong.  Sad to see the labeling of a good role model as not being "black enough."  Unfortunately, Hopkin's mentality is prevelant among many blacks.  Especially, black men.  So, what does Hopkins mean about McNabb not being too black?  What?  Because McNabb doesn't surround himself with a bunch of thugs who wears oversize clothing?  Is it because McNabb speaks articularly?  Is it because McNabb can sometimes be too much of a nice guy and not "hardcore."  What gives?  This is the problem with so many black men in America.  The majority of them have this "thug life" mentality that's embedded in their minds.  I think the same treatment was given to Grant Hill when he was drafted in the NBA.  Let's face it, racial stereotypes will never cease in America.

I'm personally not a fan of McNabb, but he's a pretty good ball player and he seems like a pretty decent guy as well. He seems to know when to say something and when not to, he's never been in trouble, donates time, and money to the needy, etc. Yep, sounds like a white guy to me! Black dudes like this make me laugh. I guess McNabb needs to walk with his pants around his knees, call women bitches, talk incoherently and butcher the English language, and don't forget about the jail sentence. You can't be black if you haven't been in jail. Right, Bernard?

Love The Executioner. Bernard may not be the most polished but has a big heart and has given a lot back to the community. Oh yeah and he was a great boxer. Philly loves a Hopkins type of charachter way more than the type of guy McNabb is. Nothing wrong with him, nice guy and solid citizen but McNabb always has an excuse.
