Tiki Barber:
He's always been a brilliant idiot. Easily one of the most intelligent people I've covered and also one of the more tone deaf. It's not a stunner that he made some truly insensitive comments in an interview with Sports Illustrated in which he compared himself to Anne Frank. And, in a nutshell, that's Barber. So much good, and so much phony. When in New York, he was always vastly underrated as a player. I covered Barber for most of his career and he remains one of the most versatile backs I've seen. He was also among the most arrogant. Most Giants players hated Barber. I mean, hated him. They thought he was a pompous putz on a lifelong journey to show the world he was smarter than most of his football peers. He worked some members of the New York media (and by worked, I mean suckered) into them portraying him as a combination of Jim Brown, Walter Cronkite and Marlon Brando.

Instances like this one were the reason why he was so disliked. Frank died in a concentration camp as a teenager after hiding from the Nazis for two years. I'm trying to think how a football player who cheated on his pregnant wife compares to a victim of the Nazis. Nothing comes to mind. Maybe it will later. There are a few things athletes should never do: compare themselves to slaves or victims of the Holocaust.

As for Barber, my guess is, his comeback will have moderate success. Barber always had a lot of heart. He was tough and he didn't leave the game because he was physically battered. Barber left because he thought he was on his way to one day host the CBS Evening News. He'll catch on somewhere and one day, I bet, he'll compare himself to Martin Luther King.

See you Monday.

mulattoking, i read one comment of yours and it was more then enough to know that you do not know what zionism is. its not an insult, as it is used out of context very often, but you are wrong. you dont know what it is.

the holocaust was a genocide, which alone makes it qutie different from slavery. yes slavery was a "cultural genocide"  and evil, but they are not the same. so being a genocide moves it to the category of things like the armenian genocide, the rwandan genocide, the cambodian genocdie ect. the holocaut was the worst not only because it killed hte most people by far, (an estimated 10 million in total) but also because it was the only genocide that had specific camps for death and utilized all the most modern technology avalible to make murder as efficent as possible. it was massacre down to a science and was a machine of death. this makes it unique among genocides, and alone the worst act in human history. yes humans are capable of some terrible things, and many come close to the holocaust, by the end of the day it stands alone. this is not because it was done primerally to jews, and the fact that you dismiss it because it was makes me question many things about you. also WTF is YHVH?

It's not surprising that even when a black athlete is being stupid, Freeman can still use the words brilliant and intelligent to describe him.  That's got to be racist journalism at it's best.

If the NFL has any comment on this matter, I'd be willing to bet it will have something to do with concussions.

Most of you are half right. Tiki is an idiot; but not for the reason claimed.

Tiki was not attempting to compare himself directly to Anne Frank. He was making a joke, saying that he was the "reverse Anne Frank" because he is a gentile being hidden in the house of his Jewish agent, where she was a Jew being hidden by gentiles. There was no comparison to WHY she needed to be hidden, the conditions, etc.

He is an idiot because he thought that the overbearing, PC, mutual appreciation society called the "free press" would let him get away with such a comment. Even more than writing about sports, sportswriters love to perpetrate their fear mongering, race-baiting, tyranny of the mind politics. One mistake or stupid comment and you are branded a racist, homophobe, anti-semite, etc. for the rest of your life.

Tiki is an idiot...period

If this was a white athlete making a non-sensical, idiotic, insensitive comment about MLK or some other black historical figure, you would be calling for their head and throwing around the term racist....but Tiki is "intelligent".  C'mon man!

Like many professional athletes, Barber needs a dose of humility, and if he attempts a so called comeback, he will get it.  I remember Barber bad mouthing Eli Manning and coach Tom Coughlin, blaming them for the lack of a Super Bowl shot.  Funny thing, the year Barber quits football, the Giants go on and win a Super Bowl.  Looks like Barber was the weak link on that one.  Barber is your typical loud mouth who speaks before thinking.  His finger pointing and criticism of other players, who by the way are much better than Barber ever was, is laughable. Though he tries to carry an air of sophistication, he is classless. (Lord I miss Walter Payton).  If Barber does make a comeback, he will not finish the season, and before he quits again he will lead the league in fumbles.
