Tiki Barber:
He's always been a brilliant idiot. Easily one of the most intelligent people I've covered and also one of the more tone deaf. It's not a stunner that he made some truly insensitive comments in an interview with Sports Illustrated in which he compared himself to Anne Frank. And, in a nutshell, that's Barber. So much good, and so much phony. When in New York, he was always vastly underrated as a player. I covered Barber for most of his career and he remains one of the most versatile backs I've seen. He was also among the most arrogant. Most Giants players hated Barber. I mean, hated him. They thought he was a pompous putz on a lifelong journey to show the world he was smarter than most of his football peers. He worked some members of the New York media (and by worked, I mean suckered) into them portraying him as a combination of Jim Brown, Walter Cronkite and Marlon Brando.

Instances like this one were the reason why he was so disliked. Frank died in a concentration camp as a teenager after hiding from the Nazis for two years. I'm trying to think how a football player who cheated on his pregnant wife compares to a victim of the Nazis. Nothing comes to mind. Maybe it will later. There are a few things athletes should never do: compare themselves to slaves or victims of the Holocaust.

As for Barber, my guess is, his comeback will have moderate success. Barber always had a lot of heart. He was tough and he didn't leave the game because he was physically battered. Barber left because he thought he was on his way to one day host the CBS Evening News. He'll catch on somewhere and one day, I bet, he'll compare himself to Martin Luther King.

See you Monday.

The Daily Shoutout

The comment itself was a just an offhand throwaway line and came off as a lame attempt at a joke.  The resulting tempest just further demonstrates that our media has become totally lost in pursuing numbers...regarding the numbers of their viewers, readers and money to the detriment of everything else, including truth, accuracy, proportion, context and reality.  Everything trivial, and I mean everything, and I mean trivial, that can be blown out of scale in order to attract people will be blown out of scale.

And this is not only the case with sports news, of course. Our news media has become nothing more than a very competitive morass of stenographers, parrots and braying donkeys; a very tiresome circus that distracts us from what's actually happening in our world today like, say, massive, wide-scale corruption in all areas of life and industry. But let's not talk about that!  Let's talk about the President's dog, or what one talk show mediot said about another, or about Tiki Barber's lame little joke.

I think I can see why "Tiki" compares himself with a pre teen girl.  He yearns to free his feminine side.   I wish Tiki well on his journey to becoming a young girl.  What a moron. Tongue out

The Daily Shoutout

I was immediately offended by Tiki Barber's comment because on a visceral level his comment simply sounds wrong.  After reading the actual comment, (see below *), I think Tiki is guilty of extreme ignorance.  It is ignorant to equate his recent circumstances of hiding in his Jewish agent's home to avoid the media to hiding in a dark attic for a few years to avoid those that want to kill you.

* In a article, Barber, the former Giant who is attempting a comeback to the this season, talked about moving with his girlfriend into the house of his agent while ducking the media after their relationship was discovered. He said they were hiding out in his attic.
"Lep's Jewish," says Barber, "and it was like a reverse Anne Frank thing."

Tiki was not trying to compare his situation to slavery or to the holocaust. He made a flippant off-hand comparison to being protected by someone.  This does not make Tiki a horrible man; it just demonstrates his insensitivity to others based on his ignorance.
This is not a mild rebuke of Mr. Barber.  This demonstration of ignorance is very dangerous as it may be used by some to deny or to deemphasize the seriousness of the Holocaust - which, beyond doubt, was one of the most atrocious acts ever committed in human history.  Denial or down-playing of the Holocaust desensitizes people to its seriousness, and ultimately makes us more vulnerable to future atrocities.

The person that I did lose respect for is MulattoKing.  When I see this...
or I might help them in a way to be truely informed. Alot of these upset Jews also "have no idea" what those of the holocaust went threw....just stories. So isnt it just as bad for them to get their panties teisted in a knot over something they arent "up on"?
... my conclusion is that this person is truly stupid.  (Stupidity, to me, is ignorance and hubris rolled up together.)  Your grammar and spelling clearly demonstrate your ignorance on how to properly communicate a point.  Earlier messages imply a serious lack of knowledge about historical events.  (Yes, I know you will adamantly disagree; we can nip that in the bud.  Your defense is known as "denial" by more rational beings.)  You state, "Jews also "have no idea" what those of the holocaust went threw (sic)".  There are a few holocaust survivors around to provide first-person accounts.  There are many more direct descendents to relate what they went "threw".  Please, tell us, what makes you a higher authority on the matter?  That is pure hubris.  Again, hubris + ignorance = stupidity.

Cheated on his pregnant wife?? He moved out and left her for his 23 year old girlfriend. Get the rest of the story. Tiki needs to catch up if he wants to be in the same league of Antonia Cromartie, Travis Henry, Marshal Faulk and Ray Lewis.

Wrong.   Barber has no brains.   If he did he wouldnt have said it.   He has enough brains that he can bluff a network to let him do analysis for a football game.   As to understanding history, he is a complete idiot.   Any network that hires him is dumber than Barber.
